Top 2019 WR target Cornelius Johnson visiting this weekend

Submitted by Gentleman Squirrels on December 3rd, 2018 at 3:21 PM

As reported by Steve Lorenz, Cornelius Johnson is taking his official visit to Michigan this weekend.

For those who don't know he's one of the top outside WR targets on the board along with Kyle Ford and Jaylen Ellis (may be better inside). He is 6'3 195 lbs, #38 receiver, #259 nationally. Currently favoring Stanford or Notre Dame, but hopefully Michigan makes a huge move this weekend.

There are some rumors floating around on 247 that he's no longer a take for ND. Not sure at this point how truthful those rumors are, but the ND mods are saying it so I'd give it some credence.

Yeah I have no idea why'd they would turn him away. I tried to venture over to the Irish247 board to find the source of the rumor but after reading ridiculous recruiting takes re: Michigan's class I bailed quickly.

You are correct, however, that Stanford is the bigger threat. Lorenz has said as much himself and the Crystal Ball indicates as much also. Given Michigan's need for outside receivers, here's hoping it's a successful visit that turns the tide.

If McDaniels has any majority roll in recruiting him (honestly I have no idea how much they have interem positional coaches recruit) and halls him in, let him walk on down as the WR coach.

You seem to be the one overreacting.

The spelling errors were the least of the problems with that post. I'm not quite sure, but he seemed to be saying that if McDaniels helped bring in that one recruit, that's enough to earn a full time job as WR coach.

I disagree, but I'm not 100% sure what he was trying to say.

He is a Michigan legacy...I believe mom is a physician...is surely an academic fit...all the arrows for this class continue to point up!!!

All the hand-wringers need to go sit in a corner.

Sure, Cornelius "Corny" Johnson. One of the best athletes at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin; heck of a high jumper -- won the gold medal. Then, was an excellent postal letter carrier before he joined the merchant marine. Sadly, he died of a respiratory disease on his ship.

At least that's what Wikipedia tells me. Perhaps Harbaugh & co have access to better info.

His mom is an alumna of Michigan but his father is an alumnus of Stanford (Master's Degree) .

This may have some bearing on where he is supposedly leaning.

This made me think of another CJ recruit from year's past, Conelius Jones. (Or is it Cornelius?) I wonder if it's the same "Cornelius K Jones" from Spartanburg, SC mentioned in this article. Age is about right. If so, too bad UM couldn't have admitted him back in the day. Maybe it would have helped him into a better situation in life.

I can always see the appeal of Stanford. Who can't?

But ND? Everyone knows they need to be undefeated to ever have a sniff of the Prize. And, I think what amounts to the final ACC Championship game against Clemson will make it clear where their realistic ceiling is located.

Pro style system. Stable of high potential QBs. Academics. Playing time opportunity.

I'm hopeful.

It sounds like he's a PJ king of recruit. Best of luck to him however he decides.
