Mandel has the same. But SBnation predicts us facing LSU. Really hope we don't get Florida again.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:15 AM ^
Don't really care if we play a team that we've played often; it would be nice to have a more formidable opponent to test/display ourselves against.
Just win an win big.
GO BLUE!
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:31 AM ^
We play Florida more than we play Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue, Nebraska, Northwestern, or Nebraska. Thanks, Delany.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:11 AM ^
Amen.
December 2nd, 2018 at 4:38 AM ^
This probably doesn't change anything, but aren't these simply bowl invitations, not contractual assignments. Could Warde simply say (privately/subtlely): "we appreciate the offer, but we would respectfully decline if a rematch with UF is proposed"? This could perhaps give them (committee/bowl organizers) incentive to arrange a different matchup.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^
We could decline our bowl invite, but then we'd get pushed to the next lower bowl and I can't imagine we would do that.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:00 PM ^
I think the payout to UM is bigger in the Peach than say the Citrus, plus the prestige of a CFP invitation can't be turned down. That snub could come back to bite us in some future CFP vote.
There is a still a good chance to put UCF and Florida in the Peach as the draw from Florida to Atlanta would be huge. Placing UM in Atlanta on Dec 29 isn't going to go as well for the Peach. If the committee is going by the economics, they will put LSU vs UM in the Fiesta and UCF vs Florida in the Peach.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:53 AM ^
But it's not like a game against Minnesota is played for a trophy or anything like a bowl game is, oh wait
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
Since we don't get to play Minnesota anymore I say we create a trophy for our nearly annual game against Florida -- how about the Little Brown Jugs game?
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
I like that you disrespected our 'rival' Illinois by not listing them (and instead listing Nebraska twice)
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:59 AM ^
We had one...Ohio State. Didn't go well, which is why we're relegated to another third tier bowl.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:58 AM ^
You do understand that the Peach Bowl is the same “tier” as the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, etc. It is the top tier of bowl games.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:58 AM ^
In theory this might be true but no sane person aware of the history of college football believes that the Peach Bowl is the same as the Rose Bowl. Also, location, location, location. Plus December 29th. There's really no argument to be made that it's on par with the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta or Rose in practice regardless of whether it is designated as such.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:26 AM ^
I think we’ve seen what happens when we play a formidable opponent. I like Florida...we’ve actually got a good chance to win that game.
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:12 AM ^
Ho hum.
December 2nd, 2018 at 5:53 PM ^
Another Old Dad here. It’s a home game for me and I’m pretty excited about going to see it!
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:14 AM ^
Ho hum.
Edit: first duplicate post.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:10 AM ^
Absolutely awful. Such a promising year and made real improvements, but this just makes everything feel like we're right back in the Capital One Bowl on January 1st, 2008 against the same damn team. Makes it feel like nothing has changed in over a decade. Even if we could play like LSU it would feel somewhat different
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:25 AM ^
Nothing has changed in Michigan football in the past decade, huh? I can't believe this is getting upvotes.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:41 AM ^
It's a fucking awful take. So damned stupid.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:25 AM ^
I mean, I don't agree with the take, but he said "Makes it feel like nothing has changed," and you interpreted his comment to say "Nothing has changed." Seems like a distinction and a difference.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
When you have a blog that is accessible to stupid people too with stupid takes and who post enough stupidity to get points to affirm other stupidity, yeah I can see where this gets upvotes.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:15 AM ^
"A Lot of Milk" was apparently asleep between 2008 and 2014.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:10 AM ^
Such bullshit. Tired of playing them.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:11 AM ^
Ugh, not again. Regardless of the outcome, would like to play someone else. Heck, anyone else.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:11 AM ^
I hope not. I don't like the Peach bowl nor Florida
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:11 AM ^
You mean the 2nd time in 4 years. Unless you mean the state of Florida.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
He's talking about the team in general, not just for bowl games. Played Florida in 2015 bowl game and last season's opener
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:35 AM ^
ah got it.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:14 AM ^
Wouldn't it then be more accurate to say "third time in three years?" We played that first bowl game January 1st, 2016.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
don't forget we had Florida State somewhere along the way too. . .
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:12 AM ^
Atlanta is a nice city, it's just not somewhere I want to go for a bowl game in December. Was looking forward to an oceanfront dinner at Duke's, taking the fam to Disneyland and the RB. Sorry but that scenario would be disappointing.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:13 AM ^
I love Duke's! Incredible view!
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:44 AM ^
Duke's and Disney? Shucks, a short drive south of the Atlanta and you can have fun at the dixieland fun park. There are a few waffle houses close by too.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:00 AM ^
I like the fact he can humblebrag even while being miserable!
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:17 AM ^
Southern California or Atlanta in the winter? Easy decision.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
1st World problems.
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:56 AM ^
Yeah, but like Iceland 1st World problems, not Monaco 1st World problems.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:12 AM ^
Ugh... I'm sick of Florida, enough already!
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:12 AM ^
Repost because I'm so disappointed.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:14 AM ^
I rather go to the Fiesta Bowl and play LSU or even UCF. The Peach Bowl with UF sucks.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:58 AM ^
Between Florida, LSU and UCF, I most want to play UCF mainly because I want to see if Don Brown can tame a high powered offense. And because I think we'd put up 60 against UCF.
December 2nd, 2018 at 5:19 AM ^
Most of us thought we could beat osu too. Losing to UCF would only lead to even more embarrassment this season. But I really dont want to see us play Florida again
December 2nd, 2018 at 5:38 AM ^
Such confidence.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:22 AM ^
Losing to anyone outside of the CFP would be embarrassing.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:05 AM ^
UCF is a no-win prospect. If we beat them, then we should have - there will be no credit for it. A close win, and especially a loss, would be a total disaster. There is just no winning that game, even with a win...
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:16 AM ^
yep, I don’t care at all about bowl game results but I really hope they don’t get UCF. They would def be 100% motivated and the media and fans would be awful if UM lost. Zero benefit to playing them in basically an exhibition game.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
It does suck. Our only hope is that the Peach Bowl selects its teams first and decides that Michigan-LSU would bring better attendance and ratings, and leave an all-Florida matchup to UCF and Florida. I know Florida is ranked higher than LSU but the Peach Bowl does not need to abide by those rankings. They can pick anyone they want.
That said, I'm not sure the Peach Bowl picks first, before the Fiesta. Researching this is mind-bleedingly frustrating, all any sites talk about it Contract and Access bowls.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:14 AM ^
I thought there were various reasons that we would be much more likely to land in the Fiesta against anyone but Florida? NY6 selection emphasizes ratings and new matchups, no?
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:22 AM ^
The only way we end up in Fiesta is if we play LSU and the peach bowl/committee is fine with taking UCF for the second straight year. That will not happen. This sucks
