Wilder v. Fury

Submitted by Qmatic on December 2nd, 2018 at 1:04 AM

One of the best heavyweight fights I have seen in years. Fury controlled the tempo of the fight with incredible defense and accurate jabs for the majority of the fight. Wilder had a great knockdown in Round 9, but missed on what would have surely KO’d Fury. In the 12th, Wilder absolutely pummeled Fury with a combination causing Fury to fall backwards straight on his head. Fury has to be the only fighter in the world able to get up from that.

Fight ends in a split decision draw. Fury outboxed Wilder for the fight but Wilder had the two biggest moments. Both fighters remain undefeated and Wilder holds on to his belt.

I am very interested to see what happens yet. Wilder isn’t mandated to a rematch, and Joshua still sits undefeated holding all of the other belts. As a boxing fan, I want to see Wilder and Joshua fight to unify the title. Two undefeated heavyweights with a chance to be the undisputed champ is an incredible opportunity that doesn’t come along often. Fury can fight some good challengers in the meantime and be poised to take on the winner.

To all who watched the fight, what are your thoughts, and what do you want to see next?

That was an amazing fight but what bs! Fury won that fight hands down and I'm a huge Wilder fan. That one judge that had Wilder winning 115-111, seriously, what the hell? There is no way he could have him winning by that much. Boxing is so much bs sometimes.

I expected a UD for Fury. Some people are just blinded by knockdowns (the second was a beauty). I give at referee a ton of credit. Most would have called that fight the second they saw Fury lying on his back motionless with his eyes closed for a second. Major props to Tyson for getting up and being able to still fight as opposed to just grab on

I don’t care about those two moments. Any fan of the sport of boxing should. Besides those two punches in rounds 9 and 12 that was a boxing clinic. Fury won easily. I was in a room with 21 people, most were Wilder fans and everyone said it was a landslide for Tyson.

Got stuck watching a british stream and they were positive fury won. Awesome 12th round and I can’t believe fury got back up. I hope they both get shots at AJ and knock his ass out

Good lord, you've got to be kidding. Considering all the hype about the two fighters, I thought it was one of the more disappointing fights I've seen. Completely unimpressed with either fighter. Fury's a big stiff with a good chin—he's just an arm puncher who gets no leverage, but Wilder spent most of his fight time waiting to land one big punch.

I've never seen a supposed KO artist throw so few punches throughout 12 rounds, and who was so wild when he did throw a punch. I didn't see him throw a meaningful combination until the 12th when he put Fury down. Couldn't believe he was so unaggressive for such long stretches of the fight.

A young Tyson would have cut these clowns in half with little trouble, as would have Ali or Frazier in their primes. Hell, Larry Holmes would have had no trouble with either.

This is why boxing has fallen because people have no idea what they are watching. It was pretty masterful the defense that Fury player while still landing some good 1-2s really rattling Wilder. Fury basically played a bigger Mayweather in this fight, for the most part Wilder couldn't touch him. There was one round Wilder only landed one punch. Also, Fury's jab length was amazing .

Typically Wilder really confused opponents with his style but Fury us always moving and is just awkward looking, but has his reach and moves really well on his feet.

If it weren't for the knockdowns, that would have been one of the best matches from an individual that you will ever and have ever seen.

I knew what Wilder’s record was before I made that observation. Most boxers with high KO ratios are far busier than Wilder was last night. I rewatched Fury vs Klitschko and the ring commentators said the same thing abt Klitschko: he simply wasn’t active enough against Fury, which allows Fury to use his size to stay in the fight. You don’t beat that big galoot by waiting to throw one big punch.

That mask/crown/feather cape getup Wilder wore into the ring is one of most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen in boxing, which is saying something. He deserved to lose for that alone.

Just rewatched clips of many of Wilder's KOs. He's punching as much with his legs as his arms—he maximizes his leverage. He can be a bit wild, but if he maintains his distance he's lethal. He was also far busier in those clips that I saw—he just went after his frequently overmatched opponents, compared to his overly cautious and patient approach to Fury.

Fury’s punches were much more direct than Wilder’s wild looping rights and hooks, but since he’s an arm puncher who doesn’t use his legs, he doesn’t get much leverage.

Part of the reason Wilder was missing so many shots was because he let Fury close the distance, which negates the advantage that Wilder’s long reach would normally give him.

Wilder has a good jab when he wants to use it, but re-watching his other fights suggests he doesn't use it as a weapon—frequently he just paws at his opponents with it. He could have used it to keep Fury at distance, which would let him set up combinations, but he didn’t.

I was at the fight!!! They will rematch which I believe will favor wilder (easier tweaks to game plan) Joshua’s camp are cowards. Joshua is great athlete but I don’t think he has the “it” factor to be great

Definitely going to be 2 fight series with the winner then going up against Joshua for all the marbles. Probably set up that way. Hopefully they can get all of this settled within a couple years.

I’m more impressed Fury dropped all that weight. He was straight up obese for a minute. Fury’s always been a great fighter, and an awesome trash-talker.

It is cool that heavyweight actually has some guys who can fight again instead of being dominated by two Klitschko’s.

This fight encapsulated why people think boxing is rigged and corrupt. Fury clearly won 9-10 of 12 rounds. The rematch clause in boxing contracts is disgusting and if you pay to watch this garbage that's pretty sad lol

Fury kicked Wilders ass most of the fight. I thought it was over when Wilder knocked him down in the 12th. He shouldn't have done the guillotine move. I think he was shocked when Pikey got up.
