http://www.wdrb.com/story/39556751/bozich-or-brohm-turns-down-louisville-to-remain-at-purdue
Reports just coming in, look to be legit though
Good luck to him there, disappointing Karlaftis probably won't flip
November 28th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
But he’s coaching women’s volleyball I heard. Karlaftis may still flip
November 28th, 2018 at 6:37 PM ^
Bummed about Karlaftis, but very happy for Purdue and the B1G. Here's hoping Brohm is Purdue's Barry Alvarez.

somewhere you are making joe tiller cry a bit
November 28th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
If only Joe Tiller were alive to see this remark, right?
He was only shut out once, as I recall. Only Penn State totally denied "basketball on grass" Tiller-style.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
Michigan beat Tiller's Purdue 28 to 3 once, back when we had Navarre. The catch is, our defense outscored their offense.
Isn't it more impressive to have your defense score a TD, but only give up a FG, which is a net 4 points as opposed to a basic shutout?
November 28th, 2018 at 8:16 PM ^
honestly i think he’s holding out for LSU. Auburn, USC etc..
November 28th, 2018 at 8:51 PM ^
He took the bigger offer. No need to read more into that.
I predict he'll be at Purdue for a long time. It's going to be tough for him to win enough there to convince anyone to outbid what they offered. After every decent season they'll probably offer a raise and extension. Good for Purdue. They needed to make a real commitment if they want to be consistently competitive in the West..
November 28th, 2018 at 9:58 PM ^
Yeah but with one or two top talents, he can be in the hunt for B1G west for at least next couple years. If they win the West next year he’ll for sure get a bigger offer then.
November 29th, 2018 at 9:00 AM ^
Really?
I think we exaggerate the appeal of some of these nearby coaches. Same thing with Fleck two years ago. How many posters here thought he might get the LSU job or something equivalent? All this talk is coming off a 6-6 season, the same record as last season. Louisville went after him because of all his connections there.
One season at Purdue winning a weak division isn't going to elevate anyone into the upper echelon of coaches and only a handful of schools pay more than Purdue just agreed to. If Brohm can put together back to back 10 win seasons there, then maybe.
Compare him to Matt Campbell at Iowa State. That's a comparable program that was winning 2-3 games a year before he arrived. He's gotten them ranked the last two seasons, beaten two teams ranked in the top 5 and got a new contract with a big raise that pays less than $4 million/yr.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:42 PM ^
Louisville must have really fucked this up. Can’t wait to hear the details.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Money talks or Brohm walks.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:04 PM ^
Maybe Brohm made a comment somewhere about the academic requirements for Louisville football players not being as rigorous as those of the student body and it pissed off the AD and a bunch of alumni so they didnt hire their favorite son.
Or is that just us?
November 28th, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
Underrated comment GrowOld....I chuckled.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:49 PM ^
Not enough dough? Not enough years/security?
Still possible Louisville could rethink and up offer, but if you get a chance at the guy you want, you need to ante up from the start. Doesn't sound like they did that.
Also wondering if this makes Karlaftis sign and Brohm still negotiates and leaves in a month or 2.
November 28th, 2018 at 10:58 PM ^
Either that or he'll leave next year and Karlaftis will wallow in the pit of despair for three years.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:22 PM ^
I heard that Trey Burke blocked the deal and it was clean.
November 28th, 2018 at 11:38 PM ^
Damn. Best post ever.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:43 PM ^
That is surprising, but good news for Purdue fans. I like Brohm and I like it when Purdue is good (and weird).
November 28th, 2018 at 6:43 PM ^
Uhhhh....someone did not do their homework!
November 28th, 2018 at 6:46 PM ^
Stupid low-balling Louisville!
November 28th, 2018 at 7:56 PM ^
Seems like before they met face to face, he would have had 'his people talk to their peoople' to make sure they're in the same ballpark.
November 28th, 2018 at 9:11 PM ^
Yeah, but did either side anticipate Purdue offering such a big raise?
From Louisville's standpoint, how much more is Brohm worth than Scott Satterfield?
November 28th, 2018 at 10:14 PM ^
Personally, I'm happy to see them f up a little more.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:47 PM ^
Weird.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Well maybe they aren't receiving the booster dollars from the Papa John's douche-bag, Schnatter, since he got exposed.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:01 PM ^
It could also be because he questioned the leadership of the athletic department and the integrity of Rick Pitino.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:25 PM ^
yeah, imagine the audacity to impugn pitino’s integrity
November 29th, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
F'ing bastard!!
November 28th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
Just bizarre to everyone, I think, he didn't take the Louisville job. Yeah he's building something in Indiana, but he's only been there two years and Louisville's got a better foundation for long-term program success (more $, more athletic alums, more past successes like Lamar, etc.)
November 28th, 2018 at 7:45 PM ^
I don't think it's bizarre at all. Louisville has certainly had more recent success, but Purdue is at least as good of a program historically. And with the money generated by the Big Ten Conference and distributed to its member institutions, I doubt Purdue was significantly outbid financially either. It's difficult to say who has a "better foundation."
This may also be about Brohm's long term goals. If Brohm wants to end up at one of the college football powers, then he doesn't have anything to gain by going home to a second-tier job in Louisville. He's better off rebuilding Purdue, then leaving for a great job when the rebuild is complete.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
Very good points. Or, he is looking to coach on Sundays and Louisville doesn't get him any closer than Purdue to making that happen.
November 28th, 2018 at 9:03 PM ^
I think it's that. He's a great coach, but isn't winning a Natty at either school. If he wants a premier job or wants an NFL job, his path is much quicker at Purdue (which is a win for Purdue too).
November 28th, 2018 at 9:23 PM ^
Drew Beers would like to have a word with you
November 28th, 2018 at 10:16 PM ^
Cheers to Drew Beers
November 28th, 2018 at 11:54 PM ^
Agreed. He obviously didn’t view Louisville as a long term job and has higher aspirations. No reason to make a fairly lateral move unless it’s your long term move.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
We just can't catch a break
November 28th, 2018 at 6:57 PM ^
U Louisville athletic dept deserves every bit of this.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:58 PM ^
Imagine if Harbaugh turned us down, and our biggest donor was racist, and our pervy ex-coach just ran the program into the ground, and our other pervy ex-coach had a prostitution ring for recruits.
This has been Louisville Fan Simulator 9000.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:59 PM ^
Considering how dirty their hoops program was, this makes me a little bit happy.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:02 PM ^
Wait for this to be a Les Miles-esque situation. Someone leaked it premature, Brohm had to back peddle, and now Louisville May have shot themselves in the foot not preparing for it.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
too soon
November 28th, 2018 at 7:06 PM ^
Good for the big ten that they get to keep a good coach for another year to make the league as a whole a bit more competitive for another year. If this is just a one year thing for him waiting to see what else opens up that he might want to take in the college or pro ranks then at least its one more chance to have some competitive balance.
on the other hand, it is a bummer that it means more than likely there is no shot at flipping GK from them at this point.

November 28th, 2018 at 7:09 PM ^
Wow, I was pretty certain, if you don’t leave for your alma mater who ate millions for just the chance to hire you, you’re probably staying out until a Texas or someone comes calling.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
Bingo. Maybe even NFL, which is crazy to me.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:16 PM ^
I think they should hire Ryan Day.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
Roy Williams turned down his alma mater N. Carolina once, and they still came back a few years later and asked again.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
Something tells me this isnt over yet. I'll believe it once the date of his buyout dropping passes and hes still at Purdue.
