He took the bigger offer. No need to read more into that.

I predict he'll be at Purdue for a long time. It's going to be tough for him to win enough there to convince anyone to outbid what they offered. After every decent season they'll probably offer a raise and extension. Good for Purdue. They needed to make a real commitment if they want to be consistently competitive in the West..

Really?

I think we exaggerate the appeal of some of these nearby coaches. Same thing with Fleck two years ago. How many posters here thought he might get the LSU job or something equivalent? All this talk is coming off a 6-6 season, the same record as last season. Louisville went after him because of all his connections there.

One season at Purdue winning a weak division isn't going to elevate anyone into the upper echelon of coaches and only a handful of schools pay more than Purdue just agreed to. If Brohm can put together back to back 10 win seasons there, then maybe.

Compare him to Matt Campbell at Iowa State. That's a comparable program that was winning 2-3 games a year before he arrived. He's gotten them ranked the last two seasons, beaten two teams ranked in the top 5 and got a new contract with a big raise that pays less than $4 million/yr.

Not enough dough?  Not enough years/security?

Still possible Louisville could rethink and up offer, but if you get a chance at the guy you want, you need to ante up from the start.  Doesn't sound like they did that.

Also wondering if this makes Karlaftis sign and Brohm still negotiates and leaves in a month or 2.

Just bizarre to everyone, I think, he didn't take the Louisville job. Yeah he's building something in Indiana, but he's only been there two years and Louisville's got a better foundation for long-term program success (more $, more athletic alums, more past successes like Lamar, etc.)

I don't think it's bizarre at all. Louisville has certainly had more recent success, but Purdue is at least as good of a program historically. And with the money generated by the Big Ten Conference and distributed to its member institutions, I doubt Purdue was significantly outbid financially either. It's difficult to say who has a "better foundation."

This may also be about Brohm's long term goals. If Brohm wants to end up at one of the college football powers, then he doesn't have anything to gain by going home to a second-tier job in Louisville. He's better off rebuilding Purdue, then leaving for a great job when the rebuild is complete.

Imagine if Harbaugh turned us down, and our biggest donor was racist, and our pervy ex-coach just ran the program into the ground, and our other pervy ex-coach had a prostitution ring for recruits.

This has been Louisville Fan Simulator 9000.

Wait for this to be a Les Miles-esque situation. Someone leaked it premature, Brohm had to back peddle, and now Louisville May have shot themselves in the foot not preparing for it.

Good for the big ten that they get to keep a good coach for another year to make the league as a whole a bit more competitive for another year. If this is just a one year thing for him waiting to see what else opens up that he might want to take in the college or pro ranks then at least its one more chance to have some competitive balance.

on the other hand, it is a bummer that it means more than likely there is no shot at flipping GK from them at this point.

Wow, I was pretty certain, if you don’t leave for your alma mater who ate millions for just the chance to hire you, you’re probably staying out until a Texas or someone comes calling.
