Recruiting Roundup Tidbits

Submitted by Laser Wolf on November 28th, 2018 at 11:13 AM

Since most of us are "think about anything other than THAT" mode at the moment, a few items from the Sam Webb's WTKA Recruiting Roundup segment this morning:

  • Commit watch is NOT related to Zach Harrison or Kalen DeLoach.
  • Sam believes that Florida State is trailing both Michigan and Auburn for Kalen DeLoach's services. This isn't necessarily due to Florida State's crap season and more because they let off the gas in their pursuit of DeLoach.
  • In-home visits with Kalen DeLoach and Trevor Keegan this week.
  • Sam believes that Michigan definitely has some things to answer for related to THAT this past weekend (especially with respect to Zach Harrison) but doesn't believe it's an enormous setback. He does believe that Michigan needs to explain the rationale for certain deployments of talent on Saturday. Not so much that they lost but how they lost.

I get the feeling that the optimism around Zach Harrison is waning some but feelings are good surrounding Keegan and DeLoach.

Are we still on commit watch?

This has all been very confusing. No matter how much gymnastics people try to do with our numbers, we can’t realistically expect more than 4 or so spots left unless the staff knows of more decommits coming and there seems to be a whole lot of names out there still. Will be very interesting to see what happens.

Franklin, Harbaugh, and Meyer all visiting ZH this week, urbz being the last one on Sunday.  Michigan felt much better about things before last week.  It's been said on here before, so I will say it again.  ZH is very much a project, nothing like Gary, Peppers, or even AHutch when it comes to playing right away.  Karf has a much better shot at seeing the field early IMO.

If Michigan could just grab any 3 guys left they are recruiting I am not sure ZH would be on that list.  Keegan and Karf + a wr, or the big boy from Ben Davis would be incredible.

Lastly, I expect Dmac to be the starter next year assuming he bounces back from his injury.  Jlew told some people last weekend that he thinks Hill is "for sure" going to the league.  I think the staff might take 30 guys this cycle, based on how hard they are still trying to flip guys and attack.

Cheers

PS: Pretty sure MattyD and other were talking about the big boy from Ben Davis or Solomon.  The kid from Canton is also someone to keep an eye on

"If Michigan could just grab any 3 guys left they are recruiting I am not sure ZH would be on that list."

Thanks as always for the info.  To clarify, are you saying if Michigan had a choice of any 3 guys, ZH might not make the cut?  Or are you saying ZH isn't one of the top 3 most likely to join the class?

Lost both the games and probably our best shot at elite recruits. Were already trailing for Crouch and this won't help. Might have flipped Zach Harrison, no real reason for Karlarftis to flip. What a shit show.

It is 1 fucking game!!!  Shall we shut down the football program???

We waxed ped state by 35, hopefully their fucked in the head fanbase didn't lose their collective minds!!!  On second thought, they should shut down their football program.

BTW, FUCK ped state and all their delusional joepa loving fans and all the paternos and field goal franklin!!!

Penn state is 11 in s&p+, 12 in the committee and coaches polls, and 14 in the ap poll.

That's a good team that michigan beat convincingly.  Obviously the best game they played all year.  If your definition of good teams only includes teams in the top 6 we pretty much only play one good team each year.

Cheers.

I don't think that losing to OSU has shut Michigan from landing some elite recruits.  That is a bit of a stretch.

What it did do, was give pause to recruits like Harrison.  Had we won, I think we very well might have 1-2 top recruits already committed by now.  I think, as Sam eluded to and the OP, that now Harbaugh and staff have to answer questions and reassure some elite recruits how what happened Saturday won't happen again.

I think that Michigan coaches could point to the fact that they landed 5 guys on the All B1G 1st Team and that might be enough to reassure some recruits.  They're probably more concerned about their personal/professional growth than they are about one game (even if it was that bad).

Am I the only one that was surprised that Gary made 1st Team All B1G?  I think that he missed three games (25% of the season).  I'd think that it's hard to be first team with that kind of gap in the resume.  Of course, I half expected Nick Bosa to make it and he only played three games.  It still baffles me that he beat out Hurst for DLOY last year.

OSU lost at Purdue by 29. Michigan lost at OSU by 23. The team played better than OSU all year and laid an egg on Saturday. Shit happens. Michigan out-schemed OSU on both sides of the ball in 2016 and 2017 but didn't have the talent to beat them, especially at QB. The world isn't ending. Michigan's arrow is still pointed up under Harbaugh. Walk away from the ledge and maybe keep your stupider takes to yourself so as to avoid further humiliation.

We had a sorry ass game on Saturday, but this team inproved and made huge strides from last season.  We are ranked #7 in the CFP, and currently are on track to bring in at least a top #10 recruiting class (and potentially one of the best recruiting classes we have had for a while). But the sky is falling.  Get over it.

We avenged 3 of 4 humiliating losses this year.  Revenge Tour Part 2 continues next year, both dates are in Ann Arbor - 10/26 v Notre Dame and 11/30 v Ohio State.

I assume you must be a 14 year old kid in order to make such an uninformed statement.... Or you are an OSU or MSU troll who needs to get a life... Or you are neither of the above and are actually a grown up Michigan fan. In the unlikely event this is the case you are just a complete idiot.

Flipped Harrison? Didn't know he was committed.  Karlarftis has always been Purdue unless Brohm leaves.  At the time of this post, NOTHING has changed since the OSU game.  Harrison hasn't committed, Karlarftis is going to Purdue.  I am frustrated like many of you over OSU game, but your "shit show" comment in unwarranted.

What a kick in the balls. If the outcome of one game is that much of a factor then his recent raised interest in Michigan was never super serious. Sounds like a lot of people starting putting the cart before the horse on that one. What we need is speed. If we have such great coaches as we say we have, let’s take some lower 4 star guys who are raw but just fly around the field and match the elite tier of CFB in athleticism, then coach them up. We all want the 5 stars but they didn’t all grow up die hard Michigan fans like us. We have a lot of ground to make up in the talent rich states because they more than likely grew up dreaming of playing for their home state college. It’s literally impossible for anyone, other than Alabama, to fill up their recruiting class with all 5 stars and high 4 stars. Even OSU and Clemson have their share of middling, lower recruits.

Wow, it doesn't take much for people to jump to conclusions.

Recruits were disappointed with Saturday's game. That doesn't mean anyone is jumping ship. It means coaches need to talk to recruits and address any concerns. That's nothing new for any of them.

To your comment about taking athletes, I feel that's what they have been doing with a lot of the lower rated guys. Guys that seem to have great measurable but play against poor competition, starred in other sports primarily, and/or didn't go to camp.
