1. Whatever That Was

starts at 1:00

Maybe we weren't trying to win, maybe our goal here was Urban Meyer's redemption.

2. The Defense

starts at 12:46

What the even?

3. So, Basketball

starts at 27:32

Wow this part actually made us feel good for a moment. Livers allows Michigan to play five out and unlock their switching skills, reminds us a little of Roby. If you don't want that Michigan you have to play Teske. Eli Brooks: Surprise Microwave.

4. How to Pronounce Zebra

Starts at 47:39

Northern or "Winners" grits starts with regular grits but I mix in garlic and cheese. Then I add a sunny side up egg, mushrooms, grilled onions, and feta cheese. Got it from The Bomber in Ypsi. David cooks eggs a bad way.

I've recently returned from Disney's Animal Kingdom and befriended a woman who works at the resort we stayed at who is from Africa. She educated my wife and I on pronouncing the word Zebra, and needless to say I've been saying it wrong for my entire life.

I know it was too much for you to speak about it, but I would have loved to hear the takes on the offensive game plan and execution. Maybe I am cynical, or maybe it has something to do with the fact that I enjoy going to the dentist.

I’m tired of seniors talking shit and then getting curb stomped. Hart and Winovich are morons, Higdon was a bait job but it was still dumb. THAT is what happens....

They are selling shirts that have “revenge tour canceled” here in cbus and I think that is a great idea. Hopefully we won’t get another senior talking shit, because it always ends badly....

Also, as much as I love Don Brown, he kinda mailed it in on this one.

Honestly, I think the revenge tour thing made sense. After 8-5, you have a lot of pay back to do. The problem seemed to be that the team emotionally peaked after beating the shit out of MSU, Wisconsin, and Penn State. They couldn't quite get there for this one. OSU, on the other hand, has looked like shit most of the season - it wasn't hard to get up for this one. Not sure it would have mattered, but there it is nonetheless. Michigan has to get back to having so much talent that the regular season goes smoothly, and they have a lot left in the tank for The Game.

What OSU exposed is that the two programs remain in completely different places in terms of their coaching, schemes, players, and preparation. With Michigan and OSU in the same division of the conference, we will not so much as sniff a championship so long as Meyer remains the coach, maybe longer.

I reject the idea that there is a massive gulf between these two teams.  OSU looked like ass for most of the year, relatively speaking, while Michigan steamrolled a lot of those same teams.  The past two Games featured Michigan playing OSU to a standstill and, perhaps, even being better but for some poor spurts of QB play.

OSU beat them badly in this game.  But by that same token, would anyone look at OSU and Purdue and say Purdue has better players and scheme just because of that blowout?  Probably not.  OSU won this game because they are better, and they will probably remain, on average, better under Meyer as presently constituted.  But a ton can change and that gap between them is not insurmountable.

The gap is in talent, and I don't know if that is actually going to improve or not in the next few years. Sure, we have guys who are going to be in the NFL, but not anywhere near the amount that OSU has. Nick Bosa quits the team? No problem, there's a 5 star backing him up anyway. But for Michigan, if Gary and Winovich play hurt, and Solomon is out, we have 3 star project players backing them up. Warinner cleaned up our offensive line, but he couldn't fix the fact that our tackles are not all that talented and sure as heck are nowhere near the athletes they were going up against. We've missed on a lot of highly rated guys, especially at tackle and now it's showing. Harbaugh wants to use tight ends but he hasn't been able to recruit many elite ones, which is why our number 1 TE is a converted QB. We still have a ways to go and we were kidding ourselves to think that we were on equal footing talent wise with the most elite teams in football.

Yeah man,  Purdue, Iowa, and Maryland are filled with 5 star STUDS all over the field. That is why they beat OSU in the past two years. Tyrell Pigrome is a future #1 overall pick and Nathan Stanley was a 5* QB.

Remember 2015 MSU and OSU? Dantonio had the talent advantage at QB with Tyler O Connor over JT Barrett. It is clear, if Michigan does not bring in the #1 recruiting class every year, it is unreasonable for Michigan to beat OSU more than once a decade.

It really isn't. Michigan's talent gap is not that big in comparison to OSU. Sure, there are certain areas in which OSU could exploit Michigan, but it does not explain the abomination which was last Saturday. Other teams with lower rated recruiting classes have found ways to beat OSU. Michigan State's entire program is based upon beating teams with superior recruiting talent.

It is not a talent issue but rather a mental and structural hurdle that Michigan cannot get over.

This feels like cherry-picking a couple of spots.  Cooper, the guy who replaced Bosa, had 1.5 sacks on the year coming into the Michigan game.  Michigan's 3* project Uche had 7.  On the season Michigan has 3 less sacks than OSU and five fewer TFLs but also played 100 less snaps.  OSU have up 339 yards rushing to Maryland and over a yard per carry more on the season that Michigan.

As for the offensive line stuff, Michigan and OSU had basically the same line performances for the season, with OSU slightly better at sack rate while UM was better on the run.  They didn't bowled over by OSU's line until they were forced into obvious passing downs.

It was a bad game by Michigan and a great one by OSU.  But it's bullshit to claim this great talent divide or some scheme superiority. OSU is very good at football, but so is Michigan.  That was the best statistical and fancy stats performance of the year by OSU and UM's worst.  Some of that as due to talent but a lot just felt like a confluence of randomness.

What the hell else is there to say besides what was said? Ohio State didn’t do anything that was drastically different than they’ve done all year. Michigan refused to adapt and mix in some zone and try to surprise them with some creative blitzing. They also refused to put more talented players like Ambry Thomas and Josh Ross on the field.

Offensively the bugaboo that has been a concern all season — pass blocking — was exposed by Ohio State’s incredibly talented D-line.

That is all. Saying much else is an exercise in sadomasochism.

Last week felt like one big Rope-A-Dope, or whatever Ali called it back in the day.

All over TV, Radio and the Internet...stories and footage of OSU D getting consistently gashed by low-level B1G teams.  Offense struggling to run the ball.  Worst 10-1 team in college football history, if you listened to the media.  "Analysts" like Chris Carter saying that OSU is "undermanned" and Michigan will win easily.  Shots of Urban on the sideline faking his brain tumer (Its not a Tuma!) looking like he is going to keel over. etc. etc. etc.

Meanwhile, Michigan was apparently believing in their hype (once again), coaching staff so confident that they refused to game plan specifically for OSU.  Perhaps they were too busy showing slides of their trip to France in the team meetings, rather than actually study film.  RB making "guarantees" after getting egged on by the imbeciles in traditional media.  "Revenge Tour" t shirts hot off of the presses. etc.

The week ended in an Epic Fail.  Its too bad because Michigan fans really wanted, and probably deserved this one, after 11 years of mostly bad football and 15-20 years of losing to OSU and being obscure in the national picture.  That's the way it is going for Michigan and something needs to give if they want to compete with the big boys.

I was kind of hoping to hear more analysis of the game, not necessarily a quickish dismissal. Perhaps thoughts/opinions on what could have been done different, schemes, strategies, etc.

The game planning that went into 'the game' 2016 and 2017 was nearly perfect, lack of execution lost those two games...  Yeah, yeah, yeah officiating didn't help and 'the spot' was bullshit, but players gotta step up, like their players did on saturday.

This year, the game plan missed the mark like a john o'korn pass on a wheel route.

Its unbelievable how talking heads are putting ohio state in the playoff conversation.... seriously?  The team that needed OT to beat MD a week ago, was taken to task by PSU and NE, struggled with MSU and MN for 3 qtrs.....  They belong in the playoff over OU or GA like we do.

I think its fair to say we've improved year over year since Jim took over.  He didn't take over a team that was a year or two removed from NC contention, he took over a team that was mis-managed for a decade.

There are better days ahead, this season ended with a huge missed opportunity.... this season could have been special, yet it showed much progress over last year.

Onward, GO BLUE

Very well put.  Game plan was by far the #1 culprit.  For all the people shouting "TALENT", we were among the most talented teams OSU's faced this season and among the least competitive.

I still believe in Coach Harbaugh and Brown as football minds and more importantly, as people to lead the team and program but this isn't the first time the team's come out with a less-than-stellar strategy.  I know this loss will burn in their minds until next year, and they'll have adjustments ready to stop a short passing game.  I just wish sometimes they could anticipate the issues (which was kind of obvious given our issues against Indiana's crossing routes and OSU's offense) instead of having to experience them first.

Disagree, we should have been in a cover 5 zone with all 5 DB's looking at Haskins on every snap. The sad part to me is that we received warning shots. Rutgers & IU both showed us the weakness in our D. Don Brown chose not to see it.

If we had played say MSU & Iowa in the weeks leading up to OSU I could almost forgive the lack of scheme going into OSU. BUT!! we didn't. We played 2 teams that overall suck but they used the same strategy that Urbs copied to slice up our coverage. WE WERE WARNED!!

This is one documentable case of Michigan arrogance biting us directly in our nuts for all to see. Congrats coaching staff. You lived up to our worst traits as a university. You matched Lloyd Carr, Brady Hoke, Dave Brandon, hell even RR who was arrogant enough to think he could install an offense with ZERO players to run it and go 3-9 and keep people on his side. Hell, for that matter you topped them all. They did not have the luxury of the loud and clear warnings that you were given and ignored.

If you'd like a professional approach to the game analysis, go listen to Sam Webb this morning. He is obviously a huge fan who cares a lot about this program, evidenced by the fact he has no voice this morning, yet he could still break down the game and provide thoughtful insight as to what happened, or more to the point how what happened happened. Brian just went into full-on ten year old take my ball and go home because I'm mad mode. Really disappointing.

There were some great performances on the offense that deserved recognition. Nico Collins and DPJ played their hearts out. Higdon and Evans showed up, too. Patterson had a tough game but did many things well. I would have liked to hear some analysis of the zone read plays. I thought that Shea was making some bad reads for the first time this season, seemed like he pulled when he shouldn't have and vice versa. That hurt our effectiveness a lot, I thought. Seemed like with a little better execution on the zone read stuff, Shea doing a better job of getting rid of the ball on a couple of plays, and with Gentry playing better, we make this a game. True, the defense was so bad it probably didn't matter, but to that point, I really would have liked to hear some thoughts on why we didn't seem to blitz more, or did they just have our blitzes schemed perfectly? Also, some breakdown of some of the really key plays would have been nice. What happened on that punt? What broke down on the Patterson INT?

This was a drubbing, but OSU isn't that much better than us, and Meyer and his staff aren't that much better at coaching. A few different strategy choices and a few different stepped up performances on key plays and this would have been a competitive game. The petulance of the hot take fanboys seems to have rubbed off on Brian or just worn him down into giving up. Too bad.

The Front Range of Colorado actually has an exceptionally good early-season snowpack this year so maybe MGoTeam should visit.  Here is yesterday.  Yes, it was extremely helpful.  1U4A0091.jpg

The podcast is fitting at this point..... what more can we say about this team that hasn't been said in the previous X amount of years?

Offense works 70% of the year, has rough outings here and there against teams (mostly with inferior talent). Questionable decision/playcalling (running ben mason from shotgun?, mcurry?), inability to get 7 points instead of 3 on a number of drives. Lack of modern passing scheme; imho we should trot out Black, DPJ, Nico 60% of the time.  Throwing a two TE set out on the field and calling PA on 3rd and long is offensive suicide in today's game. Offensive line made some strides but not nearly enough this year.

Defense has shown up most of the time and has their WTF moments every a couple games. Scheme needs tweaking and needs better athletes at a number of positions.

We've uttered these sentiments for literally years and have gotten the same results with better talent so there really isn't much to say. We all want it fixed and do not know the answer.

Over the past x amount of years our Defense > Offense and I don't think anyone can really disagree with that. So we need this team to reach equilibrium where we can rely on either side of the ball to win us games. I do not know what exactly needs to be done but I fall in the camp that we need an OC that wants to air it out more than we currently do and Harbaugh has to give up play calling completely. We have the horses .... they need to be let out of the stable. Don Brown needs something other than hyper-aggro scheme for teams with better talent offensively.

Agreed 100%, also the lack of recruiting at TE/OL has finally caught up with us when we play the more elite teams. Harbaugh needs to relinquish his "Run or pass" play calling duties and start abiding by modern day play calling which is take what the defense is giving you. Don't run into 8-9 man boxes on first down only to run the most obvious under center play action pass on second down when you're playing from behind. I know it's anecdotal but it was a very unimaginative game plan. Jim could run his offense the way he wanted if he recruited like Georgia or Bama, but he doesn't recruit that way on offense, only on defense. When we do get great skill position players, like we have in our WR Corp. We throw to McCurry?? Or are running 3 TE sets!? I just don't get it
