Moderator Action Sticky 2018

Submitted by Seth on April 26th, 2018 at 7:17 AM

New offseason, new moderator sticky.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Things we moderate a lot:

  1. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?
  2. Noise/snowflakes. We ask our moderators to try really hard not to censor ideas but some ideas are so tiresome and retread and badly argued that they’re not worth keeping around. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise.
  3. Useless content from other sites. Clickbait is annoying. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.
  4. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti and Chatsports are the other two on the ban list. Bleacher Report is off the list but still under close observation.
  5. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We tried one year of this and our female readership shot up after being really low. This means it’s a good rule: however much you enjoy cutting loose with the guys, we have tens of thousands of readers it drives away.

Hall of Stickies Past:

The first, the second, the third. the fourth. The fifth. The sixth. The seventh.

The Bobby Petrino thread was locked but should be deleted since it was confirmed that the story was made up by some idiot 20-year old.

Here's a terrible post from Rodriguesqe in the "Baylor Fined $2M by Big 12" with a personal political attack on xtramelanin. Please send him/her on a trip to Bolivia:

Or Brett Kavanaugh maybe. Or even you I guess.

Everytime I read your posts, I think about the day you had to explain to your boys why you voted for the racist carnival barker spreading horrible lies about Obama's citizenship. Supporting that guy was, I hope, a low point in your life but I'm a less  optimistic person everyday. Glad I wasn't there for that day, it is awfully pathetic in my imagination.

Theres no such thing as selective morality. You either have it, or you don't."

This guy says a lot of inflammatory stuff, mostly of the "I'm a tough guy" nature, and most recently went on an insane diatribe about what physical violence he'd like to perpetrate on Frank Beamer (LINK), complete with pathetically mocking his unfortunate skin deformity from a childhood accident.

This guy provides nothing of value to this blog but nonsensical, violence-filled hate spew.

Rain or Shine?

Can discuss in one of the other discussion threads.

Amature analysis of OSU

There are a couple of other discussion threads this could take place in.

Please delete the From Ike to Michigan Football Expeditionary Force thread.   It is sacrilegious and offensive to those who served and died on D-Day.  I don't know what the OP was thinking.

I would guess that I deleted over 20 snowflake threads on Saturday night.  It got to the point that trying to record them here would have been overwhelming.  People that started threads calling out players got banned, some guy dropped a racial slur in the game summary thread, people kept writing snowflakes that were essentially "This Sucks" or "Unacceptable".  There were a few threads that probably could have been contained in the snowflakes, but there was at least an effort made by the OP to have a constructive discussion.  Some of those threads went off the rails.
