Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Submitted by mitchewr on November 21st, 2018 at 2:18 PM

With all the weather and nervous/not nervous posts lately, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy turkey day and good eating tomorrow! Anyone doing anything in particular or have some sort of tradition they always keep?

I'll be at the in-laws but will definitely watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving along with A Garfield Thanksgiving (circa 1989) before I leave the house, as I do every year. Then watch the Lions (probably??) lose again with my father and brother-in-law.

Also, I just want to say that mashed potatoes are the best thing in the world!

Lots to be thankful for. New job at a fast growing profitable small company working for a good friend and me and the wife are back on the east coast, close to where all of our friends live. It's a good thing.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

I always go fishing on Friday. We get some sleep after eating all that food and usually leave the house 4am to get up to the mountains. Need to break in a new fly rod this trip. I haven't casted a medium action rod so it might take some time to get the timing right.

Ths is a good chance for me to get advice from the MGoCommunity. I'm planning in grilling a small (11 lbs) turkey tomorrow. (Hoping it will taste good plus save room in the oven.) Weather here in the beautiful Granite State is calling for temps in the 10s. Any idea how much will that affect cook time? I have to think when it is that cold the heat dissipates pretty rapidly. Grilling experts and those knowledgeable in thermodynamics--I'd love your thoughts! I use charcoal--a mix of briquettes and natural hardwood, fwiw. Thanks and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I don't think it really matters once the fire is going. Just extra time to get your fire to temp and extra fuel more often to keep it going.

Source: lots of outdoor winter cooking during camp week......dig a small hole in the ground, place charcoal, cover said hole with a bar b que grate and cook away!

Thanks B1GGY! We did a flank steak on the grill last night for fajitas and you are right on. Took longer to get the grill ready, but cook time was maybe just a touch longer. (Though I used quite a bit of extra charcoal as well.) Looking forward to doing the bird today. Have a good Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I'm the turkey chef, so I'll be turkey wrangling while watching the Bears-Lions game.  Made the pumpkin pie today, so that's good to go.  My mom unexpectedly passed away in April (at 91 years), so this will be our first Thanksgiving without her.  She's been my cooking buddy for years (after I took over for her), so it's going to feel a bit weird most of the day, I guess.

Still lots to be thankful for this year, especially with my daughter getting accepted at 2 physicians assistant programs.  Hard work finally paying off for her.  Stress levels have lowered for my wife and I.  My son's career has progressed well this year, too.  Now, if he could only find a woman.

Checking in from the West Coast

I was out picking up the nervous bird (I assume turkey is nervous) for tomorrow and listening to KNBR, the local sports talk station. Ted Robinson, the long-time 49ers play-by-play announcer, was talking with the radio guys and said this:

“I want Jim Harbaugh to "Pete Carroll" Urban Meyer in the worst way. Beat them by 50 and then go for 2.”

Sounds good to me. And good use of Pete Carroll as a verb!

Happy Thanksgiving! For the first time ever we are away from the rest of our kids/grandkids in MI & visiting our son in Pasadena, CA as he just bought a house. We’ll be back home Friday night & set for Saturday!

I’ve worn M garb all week and it’s garnered a LOT of conversation everywhere we go. Almost ALL are pulling for us to beat OSU and think we’ll pull it off. I hope so!

Among many other things, VERY thankful for a fun M season!

Happy Thanksgiving to all & Go Blue!

HTD to all! I'm going to the Lion's game. Don't hate on me. Taking LYFT to a nice restaurant downtown afterwards where the bourbon is wet and the steaks are dry and rare. I'll be a winner by days end!
