New in-state offer: 2019 DE Darius Robinson
Michigan offered Canton (MI) Canton 2019 defensive Darius Robinson today. He's a 3-star, the #48 strongside end, and #662 overall.
Let the speculation begin about why Michigan is offering another defensive lineman in this class.
Here's a link to his highlights (LINK).

Soooooo, Karlaftis probably is a no then?
November 20th, 2018 at 8:06 PM ^
Look at it from the coaches' perspective. He's a hard Purdue commit, has been for a while, and we need a few dominoes to fall a certain way in terms of coaching hires (a few weeks away) to see if we have a shot at flipping. Need to cover bases.
Karlaftis is obviously a take tho, and congrats to Mr Robinson on the offer.
Edit: looks like Robinson was offered as a TE.

Looking at it that way, I could see making this offer. I wouldn't make it immediately commitable though. I'd guess it's contingent on his making a visit. Brohm's future will be known very soon, most likely next week. That's the only coaching move that's really relevant. Karlaftis could wait around for Purdue to hire a new coach, but I haven't seen anyone, including him, suggest that was likely.
Robinson looks like a decent backup plan. Although his CBs are to Syracuse, MSU sounds like a possibility too. I wonder if he can play TE?

Plus one, you took the bait

Speaking of in state. Anyone watching WMU-NIU? The last 5 minutes have been crazy. And based on the game coverage there are approximately three people in attendance to witness it. Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. Now that’s smart scheduling for ya. Thank you ESPN “the ocho”.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:01 PM ^
Maybe coaches are looking at him for OL? (Trying to put a positive spin on the offer so the dream D-Line recruiting scenario stays intact)
November 20th, 2018 at 8:04 PM ^
I’m wondering how “commitable” it is at this point.

I thought Karlaftis decision was likely predicated on Brohm. That’s still tbd yes?
November 21st, 2018 at 9:07 AM ^
Karlaftis’s das played at Miami but I keep reading he’s a Purdue legacy. Is there another family member that went to Purdue?
November 21st, 2018 at 9:25 AM ^
Yes, his mom. His dad also got his Ph.D. from Purdue after his playing days.
November 21st, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
If he has a PhD, he should be smart enough to know that George should go to Michigan.
November 21st, 2018 at 11:03 AM ^
"das played"? I thought Karlaftis was German!

Of the 3 --- Morris, Neuberg, and Ojabo -- probably 2 will decommit when Z. Harrison commits
November 20th, 2018 at 8:09 PM ^
Ojabo is an SDE, don’t see any reason for Harrison to impact him.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:15 PM ^
That is what 247 projects him as... what if he doesn't fill out (see Shelton Johnson)
November 20th, 2018 at 8:29 PM ^
It makes no difference what position 247 lists him at. What's relevant is what position Michigan told Ojabo they're recruiting him for.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
And Morris is a 3T/SDE.
Aside from that, Herron was another highly ranked WDE in the class when Neuberg committed. Harrison replacing him shouldn't change much.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:54 PM ^
Yeah no.
November 20th, 2018 at 10:14 PM ^
Newburg is not going to decommit. He will be an early enrollee.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
Nice to not see "but can he play tackle" on every recruiting thread.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
Trieu is saying the offer is for TE.
November 20th, 2018 at 10:03 PM ^
Yeah. I dont really get it. We have limited spots. The position isnt a major need and the dude doesnt have the best offers.
November 21st, 2018 at 12:50 AM ^
Brandon Brown posted on The Fort he saw this kid in camp a few times and wasn't surprised Michigan didn't offer. Said it's a head scratcher even as a TE. Throw him into the pile of guys like Woods, Kent, Velazquez, and Pesek-Hickson as reaches by this staff. Don't get it.
November 21st, 2018 at 10:28 AM ^
Remember when McKeon and Mason and Metellus and Gil were reaches by this staff? Maybe we can throw him in THAT pile.
November 21st, 2018 at 11:05 AM ^
Were we overcommitted when they were offered, with some 5-star possibilities still in the bucket list?
November 21st, 2018 at 11:16 AM ^
fair point for this particular offer, but i was responding about the "pile of guys" that didn't have enough stars for diagonal blue's liking.
November 21st, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
I don't remember that. McKeon had the highest Nike Sparq score in the country at TE and was from a state that's not heavily scouted. Metellus was a 4* on ESPN, Mason was a fullback recruit again from a state not heavily scouted, and Gil was a former Miami commit - and he hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire this year.
November 21st, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
The more stars the better. So sick of people justifying generic 3 stars. Yes, 3 stars can turn into great players. But, as everyone here should know, 4 stars turn into great players more often, and 5 stars more often than that.
November 21st, 2018 at 8:20 AM ^
Well if Syracuse wants him then I... well... hmmm.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:37 PM ^
maybe Gentry going pro?
November 20th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
If Coach wants him, I want him. Defense, offense, I don't care.
November 20th, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
Awesome to see talent coming out of Western Wayne county. Robinson will not have to go far to buy Ikea stuff for college life.
November 20th, 2018 at 9:34 PM ^
Yeah, but you need to find those rare stints of time when Ford Road is not utterly impassable between Haggerty and Lilley, but otherwise he should feel free to buy all the IKEA goods that he would like.
November 20th, 2018 at 10:12 PM ^
Ugh....Ford rd is the worst!!

I grew up in the 90s in the neighborhood across from outback steakhouse (behind where world of beer is now). My parents couldn't wait to move because of the traffic, and they made a good profit on their 60s split level house.
November 20th, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
Must be expecting a lot of guys leaving early and/or decommits. Class is huge with a bunch of prospects still on the board.
November 20th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
Sam Webb confirming the offer is for TE
November 20th, 2018 at 9:46 PM ^
TE offer. That's interesting. They've been after Isaiah Foskey for a while, but he seems headed elsewhere. Not surprising they would expand the board. If Gentry leaves, they will only have 4 scholarship guys on the roster. Considering the way this offense uses TE's, makes sense that they want to take 2 this year.
November 20th, 2018 at 10:15 PM ^
If Gentry leaves there are 5 scholarship TEs. McKeon, Eubanks, Schoonmaker, Muhammad, Erick All.
November 20th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
I thought it was clear that I was counting the guys currently on the roster, but I can see my formulation could have been clearer. But yes, All and Robinson will make 6 if they both enroll. And in an offense that routinely puts 3 TE's on the field at one time, 6 is probably a solid number on the roster.

Gray shirt or walk on

I don’t understand this recruiting class. There’s got to be a ton of transfers coming
November 21st, 2018 at 2:02 AM ^
I honestly see a ton on the defensive side. Players like Woods, JKP, St Juste, a couple dlineman like vilian, and then the 5th years as well that will transfer as graduates. I really don't see anyone on offense wanting to transfer besides a running back maybe. JKP seems like a really obvious transfer at this point. He seems to have fallen in the depth chart BIG time after playing a lot his freshman year. I'm just guessing but I have the same gut feeling like you and we see a lot of transfer this offseason.
November 21st, 2018 at 9:59 AM ^
St Juste is perfectly positioned to blow up next year. Watson is gone so there will be snaps for at least one new DB.
November 21st, 2018 at 2:57 AM ^
I don't see how he stays at TE. At least not if he ends up here. Too slow. Put 50 lbs on him and he can be an OL.
November 21st, 2018 at 7:59 AM ^
The class and roster is loaded. This staff has the luxury of picking up "projects" that they believe have very high ceilings. This young man is lacking technique at this time...he is not lacking size and athleticism...no place to go but up for him. Additionally, my guess is that they like this kid's character-a lot. I believe a roster this size needs a smattering of these "projects" to push those 4 and 5 star kids-who may harbor a bit of entitlement.
November 21st, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
This is an underrated point of view. It seems like there are three high performing roster compositions.
A Saban-like machine where five stars come and push other older five star guys.
A Meyer-like culture of five stars coming in preordained for a sit 1, play 2, college career
A Harbaugh culture where guys like Tru Wilson come in and work their asses off to either (1) get some play time, or (2) push the more heralded guys to improve
Meyer's culture seems to have a very definite shelf life before the rot gets too deep to manage effectively. Saban's culture requires constant success at the highest level. It seems like Harbaugh is running the roster in the best possible way given the realities of Michigan's place in CFB.
