Feeling Optimistic

Submitted by Catchafire on November 20th, 2018 at 9:51 AM

This is a pure feels thread but I woke up feeling great about Michigan winning this Saturday.  The team is so focused and sharp and ready to lay it all on the line.

I don't feel nervous, just pure happiness. And I'm excited that we are that team up north garaunteeing wins.

Not nervous at all. My lack of nervousness makes me more nervous than the Bucks do. Blue wins.

I remember the dark days, i'd have to convince myself we were going to suddenly play differently than we've shown all year and pull out a win. Now it's their turn to sell themselves on that fantasy. Im trusting my eyes, S&P and enjoying the week.

Nah I just start the threads around reality which says this game is like a 55% chance to win for Michigan so slightly better than a toss up. I don't feel optimistic or pessimistic. If we play our best game we win, if kick a bunch of field goals we lose. Not much I can do about it so just interested in getting to the game.

Agreed.  We just have to play our best game, and we will win.  We are better than OSU this year - period.  They still have a lot of talent, and we have to stop a pretty damn good throwing QB and some talented receivers.  But we are just better, and have to show it in 60 minutes.

The two things we can't let beat us - special teams or turnovers.  Our D is so good - don't make things tough on ourselves by doing anything stupid.  The Sparty fumble on our own 10 - when the Sparty offense hadn't "made enough ground to bury themselves in" (Bob Ufer line) - comes to mind.

This is our year.

Go Blue!!!

It's not "now or never" type situation, but just seems that this game has so much riding on it with recruiting , coaching staff, etc. It could really change the momentum in a huge way for years to come. I will call it a "Now or possibly not for a long time"

We just need to crush these arrogant pricks!

I've actually been thinking a lot about this, and I'm not sure one game really changed the fate of a program.  Think about the run MSU had in 13/14/15 - embarrassing their biggest rival, winning the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl, Big 10 champs.  It's only been a couple years since all those great program changing victories and now they are garbage.

I feel better about this year than 2016 but I hate feeling that this game is 100X more important for our program than it is for OSU's.  I also hate that almost every time over the last 20 years that we have had a killer team, the game has been AT OSU.  2006, 2016 come to mind, with very close losses.  And now this year....

I feel like we have a 60% chance to win, driven mostly by JH's burning focus on this all year, and hopefully having stacked the cupboard with surprises much as Franklin and Moorehead did against us last year.

I'm not worried about their defense stopping us at all, but I'm worried about their newfound tempo and no huddle and if it can give our defense issues. Especially if Chase is limited.

Honestly, the only thing that worries me about this game at all is our offense's year-long struggle to score touchdowns from inside the redzone. I feel confident that we can shutdown their pass game enough, and they really don't have much of a run game at all. But if we can't get TDs out of all our redzone trips then that could be the thing that loses the game for us.

I think we might be able to score points on long plays instead of long drives. I'm thinking DPJ taking slants 80 yards to the house, Higdon breaking one for a TD form our side of the 50, plays like that. Don't forget, OSU's defense is known for giving up "big plays." If we score on those big plays, the red zone might not even come up.

I have a strong feeling that the staff has a whole bunch of stuff saved up just for this purpose.  I remember being completely (and pleasantly) surprised by a couple of plays, such as Shea pulling and scoring with his legs against Wisconsin, and the RPO TD throw to Gentry against PSU(?).  There's more where that came from if we need it in the red zone.  Who knows we may just be able to smash our way in given their run defense.

I'm nervous about this game in the same way that anyone should be nervous about playing a top 10 team on the road.  That said, barring the unseen and catastrophic, UM is going to win this game going away.

The SECFans guys said that UM doesn't have enough eye candy to get OSU's linebackers out of position.  Well, I don't think they've been paying attention.  Harbaugh doesn't need tricky motion to move a LB 10 yards out of the way - all he needs is a step in the wrong direction.  One step, with Michigan's blockers and RB's, adds 2-3 yards to a run.  You don't need 50 yard gainers, as much fun as they are, to win the game.  Harbaugh wins them - this team wins them - by slowly squeezing the will out of its opponent.

Somebody said it last week - this team is like a python (I prefer anaconda - they're bigger and stronger), once it gets its teeth into you, you're done.  There is no escape.

This probably doesn't make any sense, but the fact that OSU has looked terrible and that pundits are already writing our ticket to the CFP makes me nervous.  But we are long overdue.  Geh blau

I haven't been able to sit down for the game over the last 2 years. I've stood in my living room the entire time.

I don't expect that to change much though I hope I don't have a pit in my stomach every time Patterson drops back like I did when Speight and JOK threw a pass.

Perfect sentiment.  Feeling optimistic.

I'd be surprised if we lose just because of how well we've played as the season has progressed.  Doesn't mean we can't but it would be a major disappointment.

I'm starting to get back the old feeling of expecting to win every game every time.  It's been awhile since I truly felt that way.  Go Blue and beat the Suckeyes!!

Neversatisfied

Not worried, I've agonized every defeat at the hands of these guys forever.  I remember the bitter taste in my mouth when time expires and those guys are ahead on the scoreboard.  I've taken my lumps by Ohio State fans every time.  I've thrown things around my living room, I've made the trips to watch in person, I've belly ached about poor officiating.  I look forward to this game with great anticipation every year whether the prospects of winning are great or small, and for 13 of the last 14 years that anticipation has lead to disappointment.

I'm just excited for another chance to basque in the glory of Michigan/Ohio State meeting in "The Game".  I'm excited to be a fan of this spectacle, to see our best group of players from 2018 play their best group of players.  I respect the villian as I see see them, and I hope the play their very best game on Saturday, but our effort/game plan is superior to theirs.

If when the clock strikes 0:00 the other team is ahead, I will feel that momentary feeling of defeat.  I will take my lumps to those I know that are scarlet and gray fans, but staying ultimately optimistic that won't be the case this year.  Hoping this year is my year to rub their noses in the terrible and bitter aroma of defeat.  If not, the sun will rise again on Sunday.  Win, or lose, I will begin to build up my elation and anticipation for what Michigan's prospects for 2019 will look like, and I will renew my fandom as I do every year.

Pessimistically optimistic, all trust in the team, and joyous that we have Harbaugh steering this battleship.  Go Blue!

My head says to feel optimistic. My stomach says otherwise. I'd like to believe my head that says we will win by at least 10 but history and horrible memories have tainted my optimism.

I've put the last decade in the rear view mirror.  No more sick feeling that we are facing the Buckeyes as an underdog.  Finally they have to fear us again and will for the forseeable future.

i felt way more confident about this until we struggled a bit with Indiana.

however, I don't think Karan's guarantee is a nothingburger. The team will rally around him and use it as an extra boost to make good on his baited promise.

4th and Go For It

November 20th, 2018 at 11:31 AM ^

Feels a lot like it did with MSU the first few years of Harbaugh. We outplayed and outcoached them, had better players at key positions, and still somehow lost more than we should have to Sparty. That ship has righted itself.

Same goes for OSU, though their talent level has been similar or better. Could have won each of the last two years with better QB play. Here we are. Real QB, Real O-Line. Same great D.

Can we lose? Sure of course, they're a good team with tons of talent. Do I think we will? Nope. We aren't a team who has to play out of their minds to pull it off. We will have a better gameplan on both sides of the ball, our team is pissed off and out for blood, and we've put a better product on the field the second half of the season.  We should win.

Urban's checked out. Their captain quit on them. Their D is getting gashed by everyone.

Don't turn the ball over, play within our abilities, make the plays that are there and we win going away.

Times like this I am thankful I do not have any ohio fans in my family... Plenty of sparty but no ohio... This week is intense enough the we need the break that Thanksgiving brings... Could not imagine sharing that with an ohio family/friend... Anybody have any experience with that? How much do you have to drink to not knock that sob out?

This is the best I’ve felt going into The Game in a long time. Tentatively the forecast calls for rain so that favors the team who can run and stop the run. 24-13 Meeeeeechigan!!

I hope Michigan wins. Badly. Living in Ohio, I'm so tired of listening to irrational buckeyes talk endless amounts of shit.

Still, if we lose, I'll take comfort in the fact that it won't be because our coaching is terrible and it won't be because it's painfully obvious that OSU is vastly superior at nearly every position. We will, at worst, be in the game until the end and there is no sign that that will change anytime soon.  The wins against them are coming, even if it doesn't happen this year.  I still think M is the better team and gets the win but if they don't, it won't feel as hopeless as years past.

Do you guys think Harbaugh will open the playbook up more for this game? People always theorize that they're saving stuff for OSU. Is this the case or is just a case of they are who they are offensively?

I am definitely nervous...but also feeling great. Really great.

We are better than they are this season. We are favored to beat them in their house. Doesn’t mean we will...but man, what a different feeling that is than “Can we even play with them?”

Different feeling altogether!
