In his press conference just a few minutes ago.  Every media person is reporting it. If someone could embed tweet or clip

Yep, at least they think they can win. This is not Terry Glenn saying Michigan is nothing, or David Boston saying we should win by two touchdowns if we play our game, or John Cooper saying at halftime that Tim Biakabatuka is good but not that good. We've already heard guys say that OSU is good and that everybody knows what this week is. Bring it on.

I think the most important aspect of a win guarantee is the impact or reflection of your own team.  When it is said to take credit for the win before the game is played (a false reassurance to your own ego), then it can be harmful.

When it is made as a rallying cry, such as Jim Harbaugh's in 1986 in the wake of a loss the week before, then it can have a positive effect.

Of course, it has a rallying effect on the other team, which in The Game is not that big of a deal in most years.  The other side is going to bring it anyway.

This year, however, I think OSU needs a rallying cry.  They've been playing like shit against so-so teams, and the guarantee gives them a concrete rallying point to put doubts about their play behind them and make themselves believe they can win.

I don't think it will matter, but I don't think it's going to be helpful.

I heard this part of the press conference on the radio and Higdon got obviously baited by the reporter. This is why some coaches don't even like to let their players talk to the reporters before some big games.

Many of the sports reporters try to trick these kids into saying some bulletin board material to add another story line to the game.

I guess Higdon could've answered it differently, but let's just back it up with a win.

Welp... it was fun while it lasted. Ugh. That team is still talented enough and at home. They can beat us. They are not good this year. We are the better team. But motivating them isn't doing us any favors. The MSU approach of quiet during the week and talking shit after worked much better. Disappointed that a captain wouldn't know better. Should have gave a canned response.
