IU’s dirty play: The O’Neill crew has got to go! Shea came down a little from his Rutgers game level, Michigan did NOT want to run him but had to due to circumstances. Running game didn’t get big plays, protection issues resurfaced with Steuber. Showed some new things, left a lot in the bag.
2. The Defense

The DTs are, after all, just guys. DeBord brings out the tempo and gets his 17 first half points, then gets 3 after the adjustment. The adjustment: another guy in the box. Ramsey runs were all different but annoying events. He was also quite good at running away and throwing away (or just throwing it away and not getting flagged, which led to their field goal).
3. Special Teams/Feelingsball

Breaking down the ten(?) deadly sins of the end of the first half, just one of which wasn’t on Michigan. IU fake punt was at the dumbest part of the field AND tried to edge Devin Bush (how did that work out for you?). Moody, Moody, Moody, Moody, Moody, Moody.

Iowa-Illinois: blerp. Wisconsin-Purdue: low-scoring affair becomes a humdinger in the 4th and overtime. Purdue is an in-season disappointment. Penn State-Rutgers was a Rutger but PSU is back to the salt mines—Frames Janklin is punting from the Rutgers 37 on 4th and 4. State loses 9-6 to Nebraska on a Sparty No! All the sharps were betting Minnesota over Northwestern, who’s warming up shirtless and channeling the MSU DISRESPEKT. And the Maryland-OSU gongshow. McFarland got hurt or else he gets the Biakabutuka. Haskins has to run the things they saved for Michigan. Jamie’s done with Tom Allen. Ohio State can’t fix this defense in a week. II had the same question. If all-American players go to a team that's going nowhere, does that mean they're probably getting paid, or just that they don't have confidence that they would play at one of the other schools that offered them?

I don't think the implication is as nefarious as that. It's just that if you choose UCLA over Michigan you might not take football as seriously as those that would choose to come to Michigan.
There are certainly worse things to be accused of, and it is obviously from a biased perspective, but I would definitely agree with Brian if that is indeed his implication.

I never used to be one of those "we should leave the B1G" guys with a tinfoil hat, but considering the inexcusably poor officiating in this conference, maybe it's time to at least threaten a move to the ACC. If "certain people close to the Athletic Department" merely have a meeting with "certain people close to the ACC," Delaney might, finally, be forced to act.

I bounce around to rival forums during game week just to lurk and hear the other side of things. There is one incontrovertible fact about Big Ten football. Every fan base thinks Jim Delaney is orchestrating an officiating conspiracy against their team. Every single one.
Penn State is the worst one. They'll give you examples from 1994. They think there's some deep-seated animosity about them not being Midwest enough or some crap. The Big Ten loves Michigan-Ohio State and PSU will never get a fair shake. Even our own extremely reasonable poster NittanyFan, in all his level-headedness, believes in the past that Penn State has been jobbed for reasons that can't be defined or explained.
Rutgers and Indiana fans were saying the same things these past two weeks in a row. If the game is at all close, Delaney will instruct the refs to give the game to Michigan because money, I guess. As if the B1G needs money. And I don't even think a CFP berth financially benefits the conference any more than any other NY6 Bowl, but that doesn't stop the whining.
MSU was crying foul about Devin Bush. People wanted him criminally charged for destruction of property. But Delaney won't do anything because he loves Michigan. There were RCMB'ers calling to leave the conference. They too, like Penn State and you, thought the ACC is their answer.
There is no conspiracy. Officiating is hard, and the best in the business are in the NFL. The next best group is divided amongst five P5 conferences. They're going to make mistakes. This isn't a conspiracy. O'Neil's crew stinks. We all know it. Every other fan base knows it. He just stinks. It is not orchestrated. Jim Delaney can't conspire against every team in the conference. Refs make mistakes.
Go to any message board for any losing team on any weekend in any conference in America and you'll find fans bitching about officiating conspiracy. Don't do that. It's insane. Why would Delaney or anybody else care to fix the outcomes of these games? As long as the show goes on, regardless of who wins and loses, the B1G will reap gigantic monetary gain from TV deals and major bowls and Delaney will have one of the easiest jobs in America. You think he's gonna screw that up because (ahem) he wants INDIANA to beat Top-5 MICHIGAN?

Believe it...don't believe it....doesn't matter. But, if you honestly can't wrap your head around the POSSIBILITY that these guys in stripes, these guys who have "day" jobs, these guys who think that they deserve to be paid more to show up and fuck up for 3+ hours once a week.....these guys that are entrusted with not only the smooth running of the game but also the safety of the players aren't taking bribes from time to time.......GO BACK TO BED, GET UP AND TRY AGAIN!
It's almost impossible to read anything on here where a "bagman" isn't introduced into the conversation.

IOW sure other fan bases may feel that Delany is working the refs against them - but we actually have a former chief of officials on record saying Delany wanted the refs to pay special attention to Michigan.

Not to put too fine a point on it, the original poster said absolutely none of that. He didn't allege a conspiracy against Michigan or anything like that. He said Big 10 officiating sucks. I agree, at least for O'Neill. You apparently also agree. Seth mentions (I think in this very podcast) the O'Neill crew is terrible on the non-Michigan games he watches for FFFF.
The question he considered was, how do we get the Big 10 to improve in this aspect?

That's usually what precedes the "We need to go to another conference that respects us!" comment when I read this same crap on other boards.
Regardless, not sure why we think ACC has flawless officiating. Guarantee they have crap crews as well. Oh well, I'm excited to scrap our century-old regional rivalries and start over. We cant let John O-Neil win this one.

You just admitted your entire premise was wrong and then reverted to when you read "this same crap on other boards." 1. Its not "crap", and 2. other boards are not saying what Michigan is. If they were, they'd have graphs with the same data points but with their school where Michigan should be.

I sometimes think that and think "Well, we did win a national championship with the guy." But god damn, someone posted stuff on Twitter showing the offensive output of teams absolutely loaded with NFL talent and it's amazing how poorly they did with that. Yes, Michigan was good, but they still underperformed.

I wish Michigan, with its athletes, would run a high tempo offense. I am so envious watching inept Indiana quickly get to the line while our defense is confused and not set, and hike the ball. They narrow the talent descrepency with this. If we did this, we would crush!
Watching Mone play, i just cannot pinpoint what happened to him in a year. Wasn't he once proclaimed the 2nd best player on the team or something like that by Harbaugh 2 years ago? I focused on him a couple series, and my gawd i wanted to gouge my eyeballs out.

So does Harbaugh, and he's said as much. But his first two priorities are getting the playcall right, and executing the play right. Third priority, based on his track record, is to increase the diversity of plays. He does like being able to go tempo, but he's also said if he prioritized that, he has to give up something else -- logically, the execution and quantity of plays has to go down. You don't get to have it both ways.
Not to mention, the Harbaughffense doesn't get as much benefit from tempo as most offenses. Harbaugh runs various plays from the same look and uses shifts to mess with defenses and expose coverages. Lining up for these sorts of plays faster doesn't necessarily create more confusion. About the only benefit is locking certain defensive personnel on the field, but Harbaugh seems he'd rather scheme around a playmaker than wait until he's hit the bench for a breather.
That said his veteran offenses have been known to go tempo, so to reiterate, he's certainly not against the idea. Unfortunately, many of these guys are in their first or second year of the system. Tempo is going to have to wait.

I was wondering about this while listening to the discussion of the last drive of the first half. It made me wonder if instead of 2 minute drills and tempo, our offense practices have been focusing on having competent blocking and getting Patterson up to speed with our system.
And then imagine how things might be when our baseline is decent blocking and a quarterback who has been in the system a couple of years...

Nitpick:
There are penalties that are called based on intent. Those penalties involve interference with a referee.
When a player runs into a referee on the field or sideline, I think they assess the intent to determine if there is a penalty. Players throwing the ball back sometimes miss the ref a bit. It is only called if the ref thinks there was a delay of game intent there.
It is not strict liability like jumping offside.
THAT SAID, I think under the context, the referee should not have BELIEVED the Indiana player at all. I mean. C'mon. Look at the facts around the kick.

Purdue was the favorite in that, which I thought was weird so I picked Wisconsin (and it paid off!).
I passed up an opportunity to pick Maryland (and I'm ticked).
On the other hand, Michigan State screwed me yet again. 1.5 dogs to Nebraska? Of course, that seems like a totally wrong spread. Nope, I was wrong. State loses 9-6. Never picking them again.
