OSU Hate Week-6 Days 'til The Game: Hate for their fans

Submitted by UMProud on November 19th, 2018 at 9:12 AM

It's a generally accepted fact that OSU fans are the worst in the nation.

Their tradition is to show up to the stadium wearing used anal beads which leads to a foul funk hitting your nostrils during visits.

HATE WEEK!!!

To the last, I grapple with thee; from hell's heart, I stab at thee; for hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee,

 I HATE YOU,I HATE YOU,
 I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU,AND I HATE YOUR GUTS.
I HOPE ALL THE BAD THINGSIN LIFE HAPPEN TO YOU
 AND NOBODY ELSE BUT YOU.

I have not once entered the state of Ohio without wearing some form of Michigan gear. It's like a veil protecting me from evil spirits... or a condom.

Most spoiled fan base in America. Bar none. Even moreso than Alabama. At least Alabama had 5-10 years of mediocrity before Saban showed up, so they can appreciate their success more. OSU has been good forever.

I have zero sympathy towards OSU fans who sulk in misery after a loss. Zero. That’s not because I hate OSU. It’s because they’ve had it so good for so long that many of them can’t appreciate the success they do have, and are STILL having. They completely take it for granted.

Their team is fucking 10-1, with everything to play for in front of them, and many of them want to run Meyer out of town. Are you fucking kidding me? You want to get rid of the second best coach in America because you’re not playing like Alabama every week?

I hope he leaves and OSU finally whiffs on it’s next football hire. Not because it would benefit Michigan (although it’d be great to watch). I just want them to experience what every other fan base in America has experienced: mediocrity. Irrelevance. Indifference. They have no idea how good they have it. They don’t realize that it can always get worse, and they just don’t appreciate what they have.

If there was one good thing that resulted from the RichRod and Brady Hoke shitshow years, its that those years should help us all appreciate the success this team is having now.

I don’t want them to hire a disaster like RR or Hoke. That hire would only last 4-5 years. I want them to hire their next Cooper. A coach that is good enough to have them top 15 most years, but can’t beat Michigan. If a coach is going 0fer against Michigan and only winning 6-8 games, it’d be easy for them to get rid of him. But if he’s winning 10 games a year and losing to Michigan.....

I have no idea why it is so embedded in the culture of their state/program to outwardly show so much hate, aggression, and vitriol to a rival fan-base. I mean, don't get me wrong, I hate OSU in every way possible -- I just don't see any gain from vocally/ physically projecting douchehood to someone wearing OSU gear when I see them at a bar or walking through the streets of Ann Arbor.  It's just such a foreign concept to me to have so much anger and hate actually present itself to another person. Somehow, this general belief is simply nonexistent in Columbus, Ohio.

When did "Hate Week" become a thing?  Sure they're rivals, and as fans are wont to do, they can act like hooligans.  Perhaps there hasn't been enough to cheer for in recent years, so we've devolved to cheering against them.  But there is a lot to cheer for this year.  So, rather than highlighting various forms of idiocy, perhaps we could highlight our heroes instead?

But I get it, it's easier to hate.  So neg away you savages.  I am impervious to your slings and arrows.  Bolivia has no place for me!

No, they don't let you go in armed.  Obviously that's hyperbole.  I can fully imagine the abuse that Michigan fans receive that isn't necessarily reciprocated in Ann Arbor as I have been to Lions games back in the day.

I did live in Ohio for a couple of years and have family members that attended Ohio State, so I get the hate our fanbase receives.  That said, their fans hate us.  So what?  This entire thread has been dedicated to deriding them.  Why engage in the same behavior?  Support the team, walk out of Columbus with a win, let High Street burn, win the B1G, bring on Bama.

Also, I have been to games in East Lansing, and, honestly, OSU couldn't be much worse as the specific incidents that have been mentioned occurred there also.

I share this viewpoint. I have no hate for OSU and was genuinely surprised as I grew older and met more of them that OSU fans are so tribal. I would consider my emotion for them as pity. I pity them their sad existence. Maybe that’s why they hate me and my elitism, but it’s the truth. No matter how many games they win I will always just feel sad for them in a deeply rooted way that is difficult to rationalize. I simply view them as sad.

(Hab)

Okay, okay......calm down Hab.  Hate week has been around for at least 40 yrs.  It wasn't established as an actual HATE week.  In my area, it became the thing that allowed two or more friends who were on the opposite side of the fence to mess with each other.

For example;  I live in Oh.  Most all around me is OSU.  We work together, party together, church together, drink together, etc.  We discuss/argue sports year round and yell and scream at each other sometimes and sometimes, we help each other out.

Hate week is and always has been, the one week that we all try to go overboard without going overboard.  Signs in your yard and shit all over your vehicle were the norm before cell phones.  Now its ugly text messages, funny jokes and "Fuck Yous" with hangups.......but its from and through those around you.

If you want to approach it as just another reason to be pissed off and tell everyone else how "your impervious" then go be impervious and stop calling me a "savage" just because I look forward to "HATE WEEK" every single year and will continue to do so long after you've shut the fuck up.

So you're saying that Hate Week is a thing that's been in existence in Ohio for 40 years or so now.  That makes a lot of sense.  By all means, engage your neighbors in whatever fashion you feel appropriate.  (I used to have running bets with a neighbor and ND fan where the loser of that game would have to mow the other's lawn.  He would occasionally get block M's mowed in his front yard when we lost.)  I get it.  And its not easy being above it all, particularly when you've got that kind of thing around you all the time.  (Again, lived in Ohio, so I get it).

Not sure where you got that I was anything but calm, or that I was pissed about hate week.  Or even that I was personally attacking you.  Perhaps you're so mired in it down there in Ohio that it's started to color your outlook a bit.  I'm not judging, I'm just saying... Your comments would appear to be more representative of an 11W post than an MGoPost.  And as for the "savage" reference, it was in regard to the tendency of all things unpopular on this board to get downvoted.  If you felt personally attacked, well, again, you're in Ohio, I get it.

Edit:  Oh, and in response to this gem:

"If you want to approach it as just another reason to be pissed off and tell everyone else how "your impervious" then go be impervious . . . just because I look forward to "HATE WEEK" every single year and will continue to do so long after you've shut the fuck up."  Edmond Dantes' story might hold a nuggest of wisdom for you.

Going back to before I got married, we did a pre-Cana course through the Catholic church we were going to.  I have some vague recollection of one part talking about different animals playing different roles for emotions and feelings. Like a mouse was someone who was quiet and passive.

The one that stuck with me for years was the gorilla. There was a correlation between the gorilla and having resentment for another. Eventually the resentment turns into complete contempt and then open hostility.

I was at UM for the glory of the Cooper years so I didn't give OSU that much thought. It wasn't until the rivalry switched and UM was on the receiving end for the last f'ing generation.  Now I am the gorilla. I hope those assholes get what is coming to them for all the sketchy stuff they do and have done.

Just this.  I think I hate their fanbase more than the school or anything else OSU. In August they all blindly supported Meyer and now that he is only 10-1 they want him gone.  I hope they eat shit on Saturday and end up with a coach that sucks.

Actually their reaction so far has been quite muted down here.  I've been wearing M gear 24 x 7 everywhere I go and I can tell you the response, at least so far, has been different than years past (I moved here in 1987)

1987-2005 - The hatred years: "Die you motherfucking Michigan cocksucker.  DIE.  I hope you and the asshole team you root for all die in a fire I hate you so much."

2006 - Bo passes away: "Sorry about your loss.  Let's play a good, clean game and may the best team win"

2007-2017- The condescending years: "Ha, ha, ha, ha.  Look - the pathetic loser is wearing an Michigan shirt....how adorable.  You do know you're going to get beat, right?.  Remember when we had an actual RIVALRY with you guys?"

2018 - Grim acceptance: "Um...you guys look pretty good.  Not sure we're gonna pull it off this year.  Be easy on us ok?"

Your timeline is certainly instructive MGrowOld.

It really brings home how different the atmosphere is now, when you look back at the down years.

With Harbaugh having righted the ship, for any opponent, Michigan is IN the game now.  Recuiting, staff, offense, defense...

I don't know what is worse to be honest local radio talking heads(Hooley) or their fans to be honest. Hooley was on this morning saying we wont rush for over 100 yards against OSU and Higdon was not as good as the Maryland RB that torched them. He is being overly optimistic or just being a tool. Either way they are the worst in college football.

During the 2012 Iowa game, my wife and I were sitting at a BWW's in Columbia, SC watching the game enjoying a brew. I had on my Michigan attire of course and was cheering vehemently when Denard ran the ball across the field and then some to gain about 15 yards. I thought it was a good showcase of just how talented he really was. Little did I know the three Ohio State fans behind me were mocking my wife and I. Long story short, they began to not only insult the team, but then my wife and I. It got a little ugly, and a police officer got brought out to remove them as they were being drunk and ignorant. Before then, I only disliked their fans, after that, I've grown to understand just how asinine they really are, and loathe them. F!@# Ohio State, I hope we crush their souls this weekend!

The lone OSU fan in my office (great guy overall) has a look of quiet resignation on his face.  Sure, he tried to console himself with "rivalry game, anything can happen", "you guys beat some great Cooper teams with 8-4 Michigan squads", "Haskins is a great QB", etc.

But he knows what's coming.  And he knows they deserve it.

I've been to one game in Columbus. Friday night on the way down we stopped in a beer store about 30 miles north of Columbus. One guy in our group was wearing Michigan gear. As we approached the counter to pay, the proprietor stared at us with a straight face and greeted us to his store like a true gentleman Buckeye fan with a warm "fuck Michigan". He rang us up without saying another word and we were on our way. Classy program. Classy fans.

Here, hate is over the top for me. I do feel saddened by them and sorry for them. I have friends and relatives who are OSU fans...and they are very good people. Their OSU affinity is simply an outlier-we all have our character flaws..

I was at the game in 2011 and some random hick looking OSU fan walked up to me before the game and tried to start a fist fight with me completely randomly.  They are the only fans that ever do this kind of shit.  The rowdiest sparty fans just yell stuff.

Not to be that guy (immediate preface to being that guy), but mocking the Axis of Evil opponent's egregious spelling errors and cooler behavior - directly under a headline that errs in counting to 5 - is the epitome of irony, imo.  Please correct or abstain from mocking in like kind.
