Interesting piece --- for Tom Mars, no elite boarding school, no Ivy League undergrad or law school degrees. Rather, a orphan who became a cop and then decided to become a lawyer. Intellect, a passion for fact-checking, and an ability to package complicated material in a way people can not only understand, but find persuasive --- all hallmarks of a good lawyer.

Oh and by the way, thanks for the younger Shea, Tom. As you can see, we sure needed him.

With reverent head nods to the trolling of Wisconsin and PSU over the stadium speakers this season as highly entertaining departures from tradition, is there any chance the scoreboard operator could dial up a close-in shot of Tom sitting in the stands this Saturday?

If they felt particularly enterprising, those in charge could splice in a mini highlight reel of Shea's big moments and overlay "Mars, Bringer of War" as the soundtrack.

Great story, awesome to hear about Tom Mars and anyone who fights for the student athlete.

Too bad Forde couldn't help but take the bad angle.

The better story right now is shared by all the players he helped. Focusing on just Shea, plus attempting to make the story more compelling, boxed him into the hyperbolic position:

"because think of where Harbaugh’s team — and, thus, Harbaugh — would be if Patterson were sitting out this season under NCAA transfer rules....Possibly right back where it was last year"

Focusing on Shea after the OSU game would be the better move, especially if there are meaningful games to play for the UofM program that they've never played before. Anyone of the QBs on the depth chart could've got them to where they are today but the Shea factor will be in full effect on Nov. 24th and beyond.
