Shea Patterson at #3 in ESPN Total QBR

Shea Patterson getting some fancy-stats love! Dwayne Haskins? Not so much... but Tagovailoa and Murray are clearly in a class of their own.

Jokes aside, D’Agostino’s failure to develop any decent QB play since Connor Cook is pretty remarkable. Injuries have something to do with that, but it’s not like Lewerke was NFL QB material last year either.

At some point, that has to impact recruiting at the position and at other skill positions on the offense. Even with a lights-out defense, the best recruits are going to want to play for a winner.

The Spartans that I talk to on a regular basis essentially want nothing to do anymore with the current offensive staff, pointing out things like you mentioned - not even decent QB play since Cook, getting progressively worse over the last 3-4 years in most statistical measures, and lack of development at QB and other positions.

My buddy is an Ole Miss grad and says Shea wouldn't start at Ole Miss (because he sucks).  Says the SEC defenses would tear him apart (like they did when he was a freshman!!).

The ESPN fancy stats must be wrong!

I would love to see him tear into Alabama (right after taking apart Clemson).  Glad that we landed him after the Ole Miss implosion.

Whatever formula they use for adjusting QBR presumably thinks a lot of the Penn State and MSU defenses since Shea and Haskins make the biggest jumps between raw and total QBR.

Brock Purdy #4!    Been pimping ISU here lately...Iowa resident and it's fun to see them with success.  Matt Campbell seems a legit coach.  As much as I hope he stays and they pay him all they can...if Gene Chizik can go there for 2 seasons and win like, 6 games and go get Cam Newton, Campbell should take over for the freakin' Raiders.

Last year, even our historically good defense could not carry our inept offense, to the tune of 5 losses.

We were right when we said that with even average QB and OL play we would have won all the games we lost, with the possible exception of Penn State.

Now with really good QB and OL play coupled with our defense, the sky is the limit.

Last year Brandon Peters was the 19th best QB in the Conference (not nation), Speight was 25th, and O'Korn didn't register.  QB is the single most important position.

If we had a QB in the top 10 of the conference for 2017 - we simply beat MSU and OSU...and have a legit shot at Wisconsin.  Then the narrative is that we had another 10 win season (maybe better if we beat Wisconsin) and we need to get over the hump of just 10 wins a season.
