I agree. Unless a coach is in a playoff game, I am OK with anyone who wants to get a head start on recruiting at the new school. Is it nice to stay for the current team and finish the season? Sure, but I can totally understand why a guy leaves early. He has to look ahead to the future.

Apparently he was fired and nobody told him about it. So we fixed the glitch and Bobby won't be receiving a paycheck anymore. The rest will work itself out naturally.

Louisville is a shit show right now.  And I gotta be honest - as much of a degenerate as he is, I thought he was a better coach than this.  I'm shocked - SHOCKED - I tell you, that they've fallen this far, this fast.

Welcome home, Jeff!

Welcome back, George!

If I’m Brohm, I don’t take that job. Purdue is a good job in a division you can win. Use this opening to get a good raise and keep going. It’s a lateral move at best anyway.

I don’t think it’s a bad job. Not a great one, and certainly not a destination program, but it’s not bad.

Purdue has at least shown in the past that it can win, as long as the head coach sticks around long enough to fully implement his system. I’d certainly take the Purdue job over Minnesota (easier recruiting footprint and around more talent), Northwestern (good program and great school but really hard to recruit there due to academic requirements) Illinois or Indiana, both of which are either perpetually stuck in football limbo or are just cursed to always get close to winning big games, but can never finish the job.

I’d certainly say Nebraska and Wisconsin are better jobs in that division, but Purdue isn’t a rathole if a job. Their problem is just that, like any other mid-tier program, any good coach who comes along isn’t going to stick around very long since he’s heading off to greener pastures if he is any good. So when he leaves, you’re back at square one again 2-3 years later. And when you make a bad hire, your program is in the hole even further, and since you can’t recruit top tier guys consistently, it makes climbing out that much harder.

I don't disagree with your assessment. What I find interesting, Brohm is talked about as a hot commodity, while I hardly hear any conversation about Stoops at Kentucky. You could argue Stoops has had the more impressive season overall. I wonder if our view of Brohm is heavily tilted because of familiarity and recruiting Karlaftis?

My reason for pointing this out, Louisville may be Brohm's only real option to move on from Purdue given his current resume. If he really wants a big time job, it very well could be in his best interest to stay at Purdue if he truly thinks he can get them to 8-9 wins for two years in a row.

Because it is his alma mater, I would be surprised to see him take the Louisville job and leave it in 2-3 years.

You are right, Purdue is a "good" job.  They likely will never win a B1G championship.  They may someday represent the West. The West is really down this year and it was there for the taking and all Purdue did was lay an egg. As long as OSU, Michigan, PSU and MSU are in the East, it is very unlikely Purdue can win a B1G championship.  On the other hand, other than Clemson, Louisville could be very competitive against all the other teams in ACC sooner rather than later with the right coach. And perhaps most importantly, Louisville is home.

Wrong.. Purdue historically has had great QBs..... they mine Texas very well... surprised they didn't snag Mayfield.   You probably think Brees was the only good qb they got, hence your comment....

Gary Danielson and  Jim Everett,  Bob Griese, Kyle Orton, among others... thats five long term NFL starters...

one can argue they've had equal qb talent to ours, these past four decades...

Normally I’d say that’s wrong to do to a coach and you should at least wait until that segment airs before you post the news. But Bobby Petrino is one of the biggest, if not the biggest scumbag in the game of football. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but when he bolted from a Louisville for the NFL, didn’t he skip town and not even bother telling his players about it face to face? Didn’t he leave them a post it note or something?

He deserves whatever he gets.

I say Brohm stays at Purdue.. he has a good thing going there...I guess it'll be his assessment of his future QB after the starter leaves.  Going to Louisville is a risk, ala RR, a former player/alum returning to alma mater.. if it goes south, he will be persona non grata....

Well it depends on what he wants. If he wants the Louisville job, it's his. He could probably be hired today if that was what he really wanted. But if he opts to say at Purdue, there's no guarantee that job opens again anytime soon.

That being said, if he has his eyes on a bigger prize (Auburn, USC, etc.), he's likely going to have to wait unless someone really wants to roll the dice on him. Let's be honest: so far, his teams at Purdue are anything but consistent. One week, they're lighting the field on fire and beating the brakes off of OSU. The next, they're getting absolutely curb-stomped by an awful Minnesota team.

If I'm looking for a coach this year, I probably hold off on hiring Brohm. Right now, he looks like a high risk-high reward kind of hire. But Louisville is his alma mater, and my guess is they're willing to take the chance on him. So I bet he's off to Louisville at the end of the season.

I don't get why Karlaftis would want to play for Petrino and Harbaugh, but not follow Brohm to Louisville.

Why the high confidence that, should Brohm leave Purdue, Karlaftis would come to Michigan?

Wouldn't he consider following Brohm?

Also Brohm leaving BIG10 for Purdue for Louisville? I know he played QB there and stuff, but man isn't that a giant slap in the face for BIG10?
