Final Football Weekend TV Selections have been made

Although it has been long known, we are set for a nooner, there are some other games you may want to watch that weekend.

Rutgers somehow ended up getting on FOX. I guess scoring 7 points on Michigan is worthy of national broadcast? Rutgers has played 10 games this year on BTN and 1 game on FSN. Is there a rule that every Big Ten team must be on FOX each year or some other rule like that?

Big Ten
Nebraska at Iowa – Noon, FOX (Fri.)
Michigan at Ohio St. – Noon, FOX
Purdue at Indiana – Noon, ESPN2
Illinois at Northwestern – 3:30pm, BTN
Maryland at Penn St. – 3:30pm, ABC
Minnesota at Wisconsin – 3:30pm, ESPN or ESPN2
Rutgers at Michigan St. – 4pm, FOX

Other Big Games
Oklahoma at West Virginia – 8pm, ESPN (Fri.)
Washington at Washington St. – 8:30pm, FOX (Fri.)
Georgia Tech at Georgia – Noon, SECN
Auburn at Alabama – 3:30pm, CBS
South Carolina at Clemson – 7pm, ESPN
Notre Dame at USC – 8pm, ABC

I bet A&M thought they had a nice little scrimmage set up for the annual SEC Plays A Baby Seal Week when they scheduled UAB. Whoops. The Blazers, in just their second season since the program was shuttered, are 9-1 and nationally ranked (#25) for the first time in program history.

The penultimate weekend of college football has been garbage for years now. The SEC teams all schedule FCS or garbage FBS opponents for a virtual bye before their rivalry games. That means 20% of the college football inventory for the week is guaranteed to be garbage. B1G usually does not do primetime games this late in the season.  Clemson and FSU almost never have a big game the week before their in-state rivalry games. Have to hope that you get a good primetime game from the Pac-12 or Big 12.

I disagree that prime time will be hot garbage. Cincinnati is 9-1 with their only loss of the season being at Temple in OT. They play some good defense and could knock off UCF.

UAB is an awesome story. They are 9-1 and right on the edge of being ranked in the AP poll after shutting down their football program following the 2014 season. Could be fun to watch them knock off aTm.

Throw in Iowa State and Texas and there is the potential for some fun football Saturday night.

May this be the year we turn the tide for The Game and win on the recruiting field because of our success as a team.  Please oh please let this happen.

Someone smarter than me can chime in on this (Alton would surely know) but I think that each Big Ten team has to appear on FOX (or FS1?) at least once due to the updated TV contracts that went into effect last season.

My Roku remote is going to get a workout on Friday night as I bounce back and forth between the ESPN and FSGo apps for OU/WVU and the Apple Cup.

Since the other games featuring highly ranked teams are on Friday (OU vs WVU and U-Dub vs WSU), what are the chances that GameDay will be in Columbus for a Top 10 match-up between Michigan and OSU?  I'd say that it's pretty good except that both teams have already been featured on GameDay twice this year (although not in Columbus).  Michigan (@ ND and Wisconsin).  Ohio State (neutral with TCU and @ PSU).

I remember in the 90's, the final two weeks of the college football season (overall) was more appetizing.  The majority of the teams finished the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  We would beat Ohio State at noon, as that was the norm.  (sigh).  Later that day, there were always major games between Florida/Florida State, the Iron Bowl, sometimes LSU/Arkansas, sometimes ND/USC.

The day after Thanksgiving was always Texas/Texas A&M at noon, Nebraska/Colorado at 3:30 and the Egg Bowl at night.  Eventually that game got moved to Thanksgiving night.

But there will be NO complaints from me if we beat OSU in two weeks and there are nothing but ho-hum games to watch afterwards.

That Rutger vs MSU game ... Woof. The offenses of both teams are going to be offensive.

And Purdue has to travel to Indiana for its last game? First team to score 3 points wins.
