Found: Jim Harbaugh Wired - 2011 Orange Bowl video

Submitted by Maison Bleue on November 9th, 2018 at 10:20 AM

I know user Umaz1 found this video on the Youtubes and posted it in yesterday's UFR thread(Seth also linked it in the Mgopodcast post). But it was a screen capture and of pretty crappy quality, so I wanted to track down the original in case the blog wanted to reference it in the future. So without further adieu, here it is in all it's HD, non-glitchy glory: LINK

Great vid, liked 2:08 Harbaugh without the hat, can almost imagine him years earlier.

And later when he told Luck, "may as well come back and do it again next year" and everyone laughs.

He was even honest about the opposing player being in-bounds on a play.

Should be "without further ado". Really wish I could edit OP's. Damn!

P.S. I can't figure out how to embed the video, as it lacks a "share" option. Maybe someone else can figure this out?

My son dressed up as Jim Harbaugh this year and wore it like a champ.  We unfortunately live in Ohio, so he got a lot of boos as people opened their doors up, but it could not have been better timing wearing this costume with OSU getting killed by Purdue and us looking the way we do.  He also had the occasional OSU hater who gave him an extra handful.  All in all, it was a great night and I was proud of my little buddy for wearing it proud. One house he walked up to and the guy had the same outfit on.  He emptied his container in my son's bag.

That's so great.

So do we think he has calmed down a bit in the intervening years? A little older and calmer now?

Or was this just a huge game and he sounds more excited because we're hearing him and editing for the exciting parts?

Yeah I would agree he has calmed a bit, and also he is building a program and he can't be too pompous with the previous losses against our biggest rivals.

But you get him into the warmer air stadiums in a big game, at night, and throw in a few Andrew Luck plays that even Harbaugh in his prime would have struggled with (meaning he was impressed), and you will see vintage Harbaugh excitement.

Outstanding. I absolutely love our coach. I would imagine after we beat Ohio State and win the Big ten, he will be happier than has he been in his coaching career.

We are so damn lucky to have him.

There's another video of him mic'd up as the 49ers head coach that I can no longer find. It shows him during practice and during games. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen of him. The 49ers took it off their website, so I have no idea where to look for it.

Yeah, he was more animated then.  Remember, he hadn't proved ANYTHING yet before that season.  This was his first major bowl win and capped off a 12-1 season for a school that had been a perennial doormat.  2010 was just his second winning season with them.  He was still a completely unproven commodity coming into that season.

Now that he's been to a Super Bowl and is pretty much established as an upper-tier coach, it is probably better for him to dial it back a bit.  He doesn't need to "make waves" as much as he used to to have a big impact.  Plus, everything he does at Michigan now is under a microscope, which didn't used to be true at Stanford.  I think he realized that last year and is trying to find the balance between the old "crazy passionate" Harbaugh and new "top respected coach" Harbaugh.

He was still a completely unproven commodity coming into that season.

I wouldn't say that.  Even if you discount what he did at USD, at Stanford he'd inherited a 1-11 team and had improved them to 8-5 in 2009.  He also beat Pete Carroll twice in his first three years (the first being the largest upset in college football history, and the second being the "What's your deal?" blowout).

See, now I am sure that we miss so much peak Harbaugh when we don't have the in-game commentary like this. I would love to hear bits and pieces of his running commentary on the sidelines during, say, the Ohio State game or any game in the last month for that matter.

He's like a little kid.  I love how's he's "He's out of bounds!" tonTaylor, then Taylor asks JH if he was out and JH goes "You were in."  LOL
