NC St goes down to Wake

Submitted by Ajcoss on November 8th, 2018 at 11:04 PM

That top 15 juggernaut team in the ACC, just lost at home to an under 500 Wake Forest Team. Wow, you could see from a mile away this NC St. team is not a top 25 team.

There was a story in USA Today about which conference produces the best college players on April 28, 2018 (can't link in on this phone).  The headline "SEC has the most players taken in the NFL draft for the 12th consecutive year".

The Rankings:

1.  SEC/53 players (Alabama 12)

2.  ACC/46 players

3.  BIG TEN/ 32 players

The listing for players from the TOP TEN producing colleges show a large advantage to the ACC.and Michigan is not listed in the top 25 producers (this story was from the 2017 draft).

Rutgers could not beat Eastern Michigan--they laugh at the ACC?

Russell Wilson and Philip Rivers both came out of NC State and the one they got now Finley is supposed to the a 1st or 2nd round QB selection.....

The odd thing is, nobody thinks the ACC is any good except the committee. I have no idea what their rationale is. I guess they thought it would be crazy to have a bunch of 3 loss teams ranked that high? Just move Fresno State and Utah State up.

I don't think that the committee thinks they are good even. They're just basing everything off of resume instead of on-field performance. Everything they do makes quite a bit of sense if you assume they only care about resume and not ranking based on how good teams are. It will sort itself out as the highly-ranked-but-bad teams lose games down the stretch. If BC/Syracuse beat Clemson/ND, they'll deserve to be highly ranked. When they don't, they'll fall.

I've always thought the ACC was a trash football conference.  A few years ago leading up to bowl season, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, Louisville, VT and Virginia were all having good years and I was struck that they were actually a legit football conference.   Looking back, I can't figure out what year that was.   In the final rankings for each year the ACC is not legit. (5 minutes of looking)

This historical dimension is helpful. I agree that the ACC has few strong teams this year, and that the conference is overrated by the committee. (Having ND with one foot in, one out is garbage, too.) And we speak from a position of relative strength now because the B1G East is the toughest conference in college ball. But there have been years when the B1G didn't go far beyond one or two squads, either, and not so long ago. The Pac 10 has maybe one good squad and the Big 12 is, in its own way, crappy. I don't know how you would juggle these (temporary?) truths if you were trying to expand the playoff by another four squads. . .

Exactly.  This would be pretty easy.  5 P5 conference champs would be auto-bids. 2nd best SEC team would probably get in.  Then you either let in an independent like ND or throw a bone to an undefeated G5 team to stop their whining.  At that point, there is one spot left, and you could pick anyone and be right or wrong.

I was very close to posting last night about NC State. Because I was trying to figure out why they were ranked 14th and I noticed their last 4 games are pretty easy. I was going to post that they would be one of the worst 10-2 teams ever. They still will be 9-3, the 3 teams they have left are a combined 5-20.

Based on recent acc bias by the committee, Ill be curious to see where they fall to. It better be 23rd or something atleast.

IMO, I think they should drop right out. Their strongest non-conf opponent was Marshall which is fighting right now to become bowl eligible and rounded out by FCS James Madison and Ga State.

I believe they'd probably lose to Northwestern, Wisc, Purdue, Utah, Oregon, Buffalo and any of the Mountain West top 4 and their ranking should be below them.

This is what I like about having PS Vue set to record all College football games. I can just go back to the channel guide to watch something from last night.

The TE ran through the line untouched. They had 10 of the 11 players of the defense on the line of scrimmage.  The slot wr ran to the same spot as the TE.  The TE caught the ball before anyone on the D made contact with anyone. The dumbass S ran up and took out his CB and the slot WR. The TE just turned and had a clear path to the EZ. The safety didn't even react until after the TE caught the ball. That wasn't even close to a pick.

Right? I cant think of a guy in the world I'd want to kick in the throat more than that jackass. What the fuck is wrong with that guy anyway? Was his mom half turkey or something? How do those poor bastards sit in those meetings on that committee getting bossed around by him and not puke their guts out all day? I'd take one look at that ugly deformed son of a bitch and barf nonstop.

As usual, you can’t help showing the world that you’re a yammering jackass. Beamer was seriously burned as a child and had numerous skin grafts.

What’s next on your agenda? Mocking blind people? Making fun of those with polio?

Because he loudly states his opinion.  I don't think it's anything more than that.

FWIW, the man is revered in the ACC like both Bo and Woody in the Big Ten.  He was winning the ACC when VT was the only team recognized nationally out of this bball centric conference.  He has the same cache here as Bo had in MI.  My opinion says he's a POS - I can't get his handling of the Vick's out of my head.  Marcus was allowed to rape, and was brought back - ala Mick Damntony.

Fuck that guy...

Not only that but the last few years at VT he was senile. I went with a recruit to visit the campus and he introduced himself to the parents, but could barely put together a coherent football related speech when trying to sell the school. Foster was running that program the last few years. I can't believe he isn't at home spending time with family in his twilight years, because if you would've asked me then how long he had to go, I would've bet the farm under 5 years. He was in that bad of shape.
