No podcast this morning?

Submitted by Rickett88 on November 5th, 2018 at 7:29 AM

I wake up every Monday morning, not at all ready to tackle the day, but then I remember, MGOPODCAST!

And there it is this morning! I hit play, and what do I get.... POLITICTS!

Please Brian, I know there are others out there like me. Please... I am begging you... let us have our happiness this season after years of wandering... please... please...

More of a jest... as I choose to believe yours was as well, but you can’t tell me there wasn’t a little disappointment as well when you didn’t see the usual podcast up and running.

This season has just been so much fun that my routine is so important to me.

I HAVENT CHANGED MY UNDERWEAR SINCE WESTERN MICHIGAN DAMNIT!

I'm not going to lie, when I refreshed my podcast feed and saw the Supplemental Podcast I was wondering the same thing. I live out of state and am not an alumnus so this podcast is one I'll skip over. Fingers crossed for the regularly schedule cackling about destroying another ranked team.

They mentioned voting "next week" several times during the podcast so I'm thinking this was probably recorded during the week and there will be a regularly scheduled football podcast to come.

I'm really tired of turning on my TV and getting blasted by politics so I was a little bit disappointed about this but, on the other side of the coin, my buddy and I were just talking about how we knew next to nothing about the regents race so I guess be careful what you ask for, haha.

Ha! I did the same thing! I thought it was a joke or something. You know, with the “no politics” rule and everything.

Well, it’s their blog, so I’m not really complaining. But I do hope they do a regular podcast full of frothy football bits soon.

It even says on the ethics page on the site that he will not post about politics on the blog.

I just think if you go directly against an ethical standard you set for yourself at the beginning of the site then those actions should be reconsidered. At least remove that page from the site since it's no longer the standard that is being set.

It's important to vote and it's important to be informed as a voter, but this isn't info that can't be gotten elsewhere.

It specifically says on the ethics page that the rule applies to Brian too.

Again, before the hate brigade comes, I am not saying that they "can't post" political stuff here. I'm just saying stop kidding around and get rid of that whole page since it's clear that the ethical values of the site's crew have changed. Nothing wrong with that.

Certainly understand the importance of the political podcast. I'm Canadian and look forward to hearing the analysis from MgoTeam Monday mornings. No one breaks down the game better

Sad trombone sound indeed.

By definition supplemental does not mean in lieu of, so hopefully the standard format version will still be coming as well, but a bit of a let down that it’s available to balance the gloom of a Monday morning commute.

Democracy is important. Don’t like it, don’t participate. But then don’t complain. Good on Brian for being a part of the process.

And honestly, seeing what a bad Board of Trustees can do at, say, MSU, being informed about the Board of Regents candidates is never a bad thing.

Because as we all know, there is nowhere other than MGoBlog to get political information on the internet.

I appreciate Brian’s interest in it, but the podcast really is something I look forward to on Monday mornings, so this was definitely “toothbrush on Halloween” as one poster noted already.

MGoBlog isn’t a charity, it’s not a PAC, it’s a business. I, as a customer, am voicing my disappointment with this particular product.

Im glad Brian has an interest in “local” politics and I don’t mind him using this platform occasionally, but in lieu of one of my two favorite features on the blog kinda sucks (especially since this particular bit of politics is useless to me as I am out of state)

All will be forgiven if we actually get an OSU UFR this year

I know all of us, the MGoDenizens, think of ourselves as the site's customers, but the truth of free commercial media is this:

If you are not paying, you are not the customer. You are the product being sold to the real customers, the advertisers.

That said, yeah, I hear and echo your gripe.

I think Brian and the crew are more than capable of handling opinions on content, apparently unlike some users here. People shouldn't just have their opinions shut down because they don't pay. If they think the site could be better in some way then they should say it. Whether the staff wants to actually implement any changes is up to them, but it's absurd to have the "YOU CANT SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT THE SITE HATER" attitude.

Any group of any kind that disallows criticism has a real issue on their hands. Luckily the mods and stuff don't seem to run on that view as those comments aren't getting deleted.

Whatever, Brian's blog so he can do what he wants. If you do care this is an awesome thing to hear to help inform your decision. If you don't care, don't listen. If for whatever reason it makes you angry, well I'm not sure what to say. You can threaten leaving the blog if you want, or actually do it, but I'm sure Brian and co don't care and it won't effect their blog/pocket much.

We have incredibly important elections tomorrow, no matter what your political affiliation is. Brian's blog reaches a large audience nationally but especially locally in AA. If he has the opportunity to inform the public about a race he feels strongly enough that he should, then good for him. We need people to take ownership of their civic responsibility.

Getting mad at Brian for not giving us our football content right now because we normally get it now and we want it now because we need it now is dumb. The election's tomorrow, a podcast on us shelacking PSU is still relevant later today or tomorrow or Wednesday. And if it doesn't come, well I think there's enough coverage on this site and the internet to make up for it. But just like I think telling athletes to "Shut up and dribble" is dumb I'll never get mad at Brian for using his platform to do what he thinks is necessary.

I never said you got mad. It's a general point since people will come into these threads angry based on previous examples. You did decide that you needed to post this 5 minutes after the podcast was posted "jokingly" begging for football. But yeah I'll step awa from the computer.

I actually think it makes a lot of sense that Brian et al. would cover the Regents race, I just wish it was, like, Rutger weekend or the bye week. Damn you, Big Ten schedulers!

I have a deep craving for some fresh, hot Penn State whoopin' coverage.

Thanks Seth. I have no issue with the supplemental podcast, but it would've been nice if there had been some notice in the notes or the main page post that "In light of the upcoming election, we bring you this content; the regular podcast will be up later today" or similar.

I know when I was looking at what to listen to on the way to work this morning, a note like that would've avoided a lot of confusion (and by extension, possibly, this thread).

Love the podcast and appreciate all you do for it.

Thank you for these interviews, great way to learn about something we can vote on. Could we get this a little earlier than 1 day out perhaps next, if there is a next time? I am sure you are all busy people though, and perhaps that was not possible. And having this available to listen to is better than not at all.

Let us remember the dark times when we would not have clamored for a podcast promptly after another disheartening performance, and rejoice in the fact those times are behind us (at least for today).

I don't care that there's political content here - politics are important, even if they suck.  Brian is doing a public service with this stuff because most people don't give a rats ass about a Regents election - and we end up with MSU as a result.  (Disclaimer: I'm out of state, this doesn't affect my vote, I won't listen.)  My only comment otherwise is that there was two weeks of bye prior to this in which plenty of time occurred to create this podcast, leaving time to finish the usual football-y one per normal schedule.  Post them whenever...
