Michigan #4 in AP Poll, Coaches Poll
No surprises here as Michigan moves up after the LSU loss.
The top 6 are the same in each poll going:
1) Alabama
2) Clemson
3) ND
4) Michigan
5) Georgia
6) Oklahoma
This is where they differ as the coaches poll has OSU 7 while the AP put WVU at 7 and OSU at 8.
Other ranked B1G teams:
OSU: 7 (Coaches)/8 (AP)
PSU: 20/21
MSU: NR/24
Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue and NW are receiving votes in both polls.

Calling it now: Notre Dame is going to lose to Syracuse, Michigan wins out and ends up playing Clemson (yikes) in the first round.

Bring it on
November 4th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
Not to be a chicken-shit, but better Clemson than Bama
November 4th, 2018 at 2:44 PM ^
I’ll take Ohio State, then Alabama (with an appetizer of Northwestern). I’m starting to think this team and Clemson could give Alabama a really good game. Could we be the ones to beat them?

November 4th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
You better to be able to score a lot of points on them, even if you have a good defense.
Nobody is going to beat Alabama 14 - 10.

Cleveland might
November 4th, 2018 at 7:29 PM ^
I think we play bama in semi's and a rematch with ND in the Championship. Keep the revenge tour going!
November 4th, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
I can't be the only one who wants revenge for bama pantsing us to open the 2012 season
November 4th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
They may be in 1995 Nebraska / 2001 Miami territory (that Miami team almost lost to BC FWIW). If they are and we play them, well, that’s that.
But 2005 USC was thought to be in that territory too. They had the loaded offense, the coach, the talent everywhere on the roster.
Our D and our offensive talent would give us a puncher’s chance. Our O hasn’t shown that gear yet. But that gear might be there.
November 4th, 2018 at 4:10 PM ^
LSU is known for being limited offensively. UM is not LSU. The two teams match up significantly different with Alabama.
November 4th, 2018 at 2:44 PM ^
User name checks out!
Just kidding. I'm not sure ND loses to Syracuse. But anything possible in Yankee Stadium. So I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
To hell with Notre Dame! And Go Blue!!!
November 4th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
Polls are setting it up for Syracuse to be near the Top 10 when they play ND. Even if ND loses it'll be to a "Top 10 team away from home."
November 4th, 2018 at 3:28 PM ^
If Clemson is a 'Yikes', what is Alabama?
November 4th, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
Better Clemson than Bama.
November 4th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
November 4th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Fuck Clemson. We. Want. Bama.
It's time to expose their ass on the biggest stage. Hell yeah I'll take Don Brown's trap coverage against a QB who's still making most of his decisions pre-snap. We'd be in his head by halftime.
November 4th, 2018 at 6:38 PM ^
Syracuse is 2-10 on the road under Dino Babers. That's not changing in New York against Notre Dame.
November 4th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
Please give us ND in the playoff. Please
November 4th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
All roads are going to Alabama anyway, where ever Michigan is ranked. Hoping Rashan Gary is 100% by then.
November 4th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
It is possible if Clemson loses to Boston College this weekend. We could loan them Don Brown for the weekend and have AJ Dillon do us a favor by beating them. That would set up a potential Michigan/Notre Dame rematch. We could tack one more game on the revenge tour that way.
November 4th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
It would take a big upset.
But man would I love a rematch.
November 4th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
It'd be a perfect part of the "revenge tour"
November 4th, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
I know we beat them, but NW in the B1G CG could be revenge tour lite. Don't spot them 17 and thus time, really take it to them.
November 4th, 2018 at 5:28 PM ^
Yes! The two biggest college football fan bases would send the ratings off the charts!
November 4th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
#4 just right.
Just keep improving and winning, baby. Starting with the Scarlet Nights next week.
Great weekend!
Go Blue!!!
November 4th, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
Scarlet Afternoons, actually.
November 4th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
osu barely handling Nebraska.. At home... Who has two wins... I don't see how they are ranked that high. I truly don't. I can see top 12 or 10 maybe... But...
November 4th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Coaches and writers have sympathy for Urban’s cyst
November 4th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
They probably lose to Sharty next week and free fall in the rankings
November 4th, 2018 at 6:14 PM ^
No probably about it. MSU will beat the buckeyes and steal some of our thunder.
November 4th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
Well there are only 9 P5 schools with 0 or 1 losses. With so many other losses, there wasn't anywhere for OSU to fall to even with a less than impressive performance. Case in point, Kentucky was easily handled by Georgia and only fell 1 spot in the AP poll and didn't move at all in the Coaches' poll.
November 4th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
Good point.
But does it matter much?
If Sparty doesn't have something to say about it (and I am doubtful they will) - The Game will take care of that in a few weeks.
Go Blue!!!
November 4th, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
If sparty is the #1 rush defense, is OSU immune because they don't have a rushing offense?
???
November 4th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
OSU can’t run or stop the run, they’re soft as Charmin and Dantonio will probably conjure up a sideways snow storm next Saturday, so I predict some sad pizza time for Urbs next weekend...
November 4th, 2018 at 3:36 PM ^
Sparty will probably tank this game because them winning helps Michigan. Dantonio has admitted he wouldn't want to do the latter
November 4th, 2018 at 4:02 PM ^
Only helps us if we don’t beat OSU.
I want to beat OSU pretty badly. So does the team, I suspect.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
be happy about it. Have them ranked as highly as possible heading into the game. It would lessen the probability of Georgia or someone leap frogging us because they are SEC.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
Or Oklahoma because they play lots of shiny-object offense. Fans and surface-level media types tend to way overrate offense. They are always surprised when a great offense is suddenly derailed by a great defense.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
It's just pure record. There are not a lot of 1-loss teams left to choose from. It's lazy really, they are just looking at number of losses.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
I like the idea of playing Alabama in the semifinal. It gives the coaches a month to plan, rather than a week.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
As LSU found out last night:
November 4th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if we win out & find the media being tempted to push for a 2nd SEC team or a 1 loss Big 12 team to get in over Michigan, we need to do this:
No matter what happens, I pray that Harbaugh understands that the “style points” and PR/spin game in the media MUST be played too.
IIRC, back in 2006, we didn’t do that at all because it was uncouth and we wanted to stay “classy.” Meanwhile, Urban Meyer was shamelessly shilling for Florida every chance he got. Maybe it wouldn’t have made a difference back then, but IIRC we didn’t even TRY.
Our school has considerable resources at our disposal including both financial and in terms of human capital. Lobbying Michigan’s case in the sports media is well within the rules of the NCAA.
JH and the staff need to win out & (not risking injury to key players) BLOW OUT remaining teams wherever possible. Meanwhile, the football team’s PR department need to put together a multi faceted PR campaign on a national scale. Social media graphics & viral videos of key plays or highlights, coordinated talking points to be delivered by high profile surrogates in the media, pulling strings with every sports columnist they can to do their part, etc.
“Play through the whistle,” they say.
Well, in this case, running up the score & waging a full scale PR battle in the media is the off field equivalent of playing through the whistle. Leave NOTHING to chance.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
Dude its Michigan, top 5 viewerships in the nation. If anything the Big 12 winner gets left out. There is a reason every year we lose to Sparty we still make a better bowl.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:36 PM ^
Correct,
Georgia might jump us next weekend with a win over an almost ranked Auburn. While we play... Rutger.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
Oh, hell no.
There is nothing the college football playoff can offer that’s worth groveling for.
There’s a Walter Payton quote that applies here: “When you’re good at something, you tell everyone. When you’re great, they tell you.”
November 4th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
I’m not seeing a huge threat of getting pushed out, honestly. Certainly not by Oklahoma, which keeps struggling against bad teams (Army took them to OT in Norman!). I guess a one-loss Bama is a problem if that loss is to Georgia, but in this scenario we’d have a loss just as good, on the road, a comparable resume, and a conference title.
Honestly, win and we’re in. Don’t mind the blowouts, though—keep them coming. I think we’ve already done our job with them, but insofar as you are arguing the value of style points, you have a point—and Michigan has just made theirs.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:10 PM ^
OSU still has a lot of talent and the game is at the big toilet bowl. Throw in that Delaney has it in for Michigan and it will be a tough game. OSU is still having issues but they always seems to hit another gear when they play Michigan.
November 4th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Delaney has it in for his conference being in the CFP.
He may favor Michigan in this one since we have the clearest path to get in, and the best chance for a good showing once we get there.
Refs, take note.
