U-M Hockey @ Lake Superior State Fri Open Thread

It's been a minute since the last visit to Lake State (CCHA era). U-M is above .500 at 3-2 and takes that record up north for the second road game, first road series. Lake State is 4-0-0 (won @ Merrimack twice, @ Alabama Huntsville twice).

7 hours from me, just a hair too far and too expensive. Pity.

I went to one road game there, 01-02 season. I got good seats between the blue lines. Before the game, a couple guys I knew from USCHO (Ramsay was one of them, lives in North Dakota now) met up with me and we said hey. My seats were between the blue lines, fantastic view, half-empty arena. I thought I had it made until Michigan scored the first goal.

Ramsay and his friend whose name I regretfully forget sat in the end zone behind the goal. Nice enough, cheaper, but not the same view. But then Michigan was on the board, and they were equal to the moment: they did the sieve chant together after the goal. Just those two. They were really loud. Dominated the place.

Skip the blue lines. I went and joined them (plenty of seats available) after the first intermission. Michigan scored four more times, winning in a shutout. I've never done the chant so loud in my life. We owned the place. It was glorious.

Michigan needs two wins here. Go Blue.

2-1 them after one.

Can't keep taking penalties. Speaking of which, some extracurricular stuff happened with a few seconds left. Them taking liberties with Norris, Norris objecting. Coincidental minors.

Have only been able to watch one game so far this year, but we were real sloppy in the neutral zone and with possession in our own zone that lead to a lot of goals. We really need to figure out how to not give up 4-5 goals a game.

Man. Not a good start to the season at all. I'm not surprised that there's some trouble getting the offense going; giving up goals all over the place is more surprising.

Ugly way to kick things off. If the team turns things around to compete for a tournament spot these losses will really sting. If the losses don't sting it's because the team is mediocre all year.

Ugh.
