Offense is good. Playoff level? Getting there.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
Yup. Good but far from great.
This offense looked very very mediocre for a majority of the game today. I mean, how do we start almost the entire first half on MSU’s side of the 50 and fail to get points on every single attempt??
Solid win today but offense still has a long way to go.

Rivalry game....
October 20th, 2018 at 6:14 PM ^
Rivalry game, ugly weather, little confidence in Nordin currently....
October 20th, 2018 at 10:00 PM ^
MSU had the #1 run defense entering the game. Harbaugh's plan was to wear them down and apparently it worked. Yes, there is room for improvement.
October 21st, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
MSU also has the worst passing defense in the B1G and we didn't take advantage of that. I'm happy as hell we won but I'm not going to lie to myself and pretend everything on offense is fine. I love the way we are running the ball but the pass game still has a major way to go.
October 21st, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
That doesn't explain the utter lack of imagination in the passing game. This is a problem that still needs fixing let's not let the win delude the truth.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
That's all msu had for us. This game showed that. They did a great job at stunting our offense, the rain gave them demonic powers, but we showed all power through to the end. Love your Wolverines
October 20th, 2018 at 5:29 PM ^
In every game except Nebraska, M has not scored a whole lot in the 1st half. They have made really good 2nd half adjustments that have worked.
But I think that against Penn State and OSU the offense will have to finish drives better in the 1st half, or risk getting down too much (as at NW and at ND).
October 20th, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
Problem being, Wisconsin and MSU were not as good as advertised in August. Penn St may not be either. OSU certainly is, and if Penn St is, you are looking at 2 more losses (probably a third in a bowl game against a 9/10 win team) if they continue to give 30 minutes away on offense each week.

I guess it’s better than you kicking your dog. Yesh take some joy out of 7-1 with two ranked wins. 8 games is 2/3s of the season that has to be worth something right?
October 21st, 2018 at 2:19 AM ^
Ohio State is not good.
October 21st, 2018 at 5:39 PM ^
Have another.
Youre out of your element, Donny.
October 20th, 2018 at 6:49 PM ^
Patterson is scaring the shit out of me with his reluctance to throw the ball downfield or not seeing open receivers. This was the main problem for the offense.
October 20th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
Yes.
I like Shea very much and I am grateful we have him. He takes care of the ball and is a threat to run.
But man...throw the ball downfield, young man!!
October 20th, 2018 at 8:48 PM ^
Very proud of the team: ~400yards against a solid run D, on the road, rivalry game.
But Michigan will lose some games if first-half Lloyd-ball continues. No punting on 4th and 5 from the 38.
Need to mix in the mid-passing game: Not just screens and bombs (the latter which take 3+ seconds to set up), but quick-hitting, mid-passing game. Some slants to Perry & Co. on 2nd and 3rd and 8-10 would be wonderful.
October 20th, 2018 at 9:01 PM ^
I agree he missed some opportunities today but let's remember that Shae Patterson leads the conference in plays of 25 or more yds. He's #1 in that stat.
October 21st, 2018 at 10:01 AM ^
Really? That seems impossible.
October 31st, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
Or maybe you're just wrong and suffering from confirmation bias. Check the stats. UMFootball tweeted it out as well. How else would Patterson be #2 in conference QB rating?
October 20th, 2018 at 10:25 PM ^
Double good news here:
A: he’s not ready to go pro.
B: He’s getting better bit by bit.
I think he’ll have a coming out party vs PSU with a healthy Tarik Black back. Gunna be some AC/DC playing.
October 20th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
Got to get more points out of 400 yards of offense. If there is one thing that bites us this year it will be missed opportunities to score.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
^^This^^
October 20th, 2018 at 5:38 PM ^
Yeah, we really need to execute in the opposing half of the field better. At least try and get Nordin in range
October 20th, 2018 at 8:06 PM ^
Ahem, what is this “Nordin range” you speak of????
Kidding but not kidding :-/
October 20th, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
Not to mention all of the hidden yards we got from our defense and special teams giving great field position. I am overall pleased with the way this game went and how the season is shaping up overall so far, but there will be plenty to work on in practice these next two weeks. GO BLUE!
October 20th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
Muppets? Muppets!
October 20th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
Slow start a bit again today, but weather didn't help. Shea RPO saved our bacon a few times, and DPJ is becoming a legit deep threat on more than just a play or 2 a game. Great game because it's a W! Go Blue!!!!
October 20th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Pretty good when the weather doesn't suck. Let's build a dome.
October 20th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
This team has heart!
October 20th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Defense was lights out.
Offense was atrocious. Not sure how Michigan expects to beat good teams playing Bo and Carr ball.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
Worst take ever. 400 yards against a very good defense and took control of the game when it mattered. You are dismissed.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
I agree. But we still need to find a way to turn yards into more points.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:07 PM ^
That take is atrocious. Rivalry game, on the road, weather issues.
Shea needs to take more downfield shots on single coverages. Evans and Higdon have to hold on to the ball. That was a solid offensive performance minus the rain curse.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
Thanks guys, I feel better now.
I just get confused when I watch other teams in the top 5.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
Michigan is in the top 20 in PPG. Only the most entitled-feeling prick would call that offense "atrocious."
October 20th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
Michigan needs to be better in the red zone, it’s been a struggle. We squandered 2-3 scores in the first half.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:26 PM ^
If you mean Alabama then fine. Other than that...everybody has their issues on one side of the ball.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
Must not have watched that Georgia-LSU game last week. Or Clemson against Syracuse. Or OSU at Penn State. Or ND against Pitt.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:39 PM ^
Obviously you haven't watched the top 5 teams sans Alabama. They all looked like crap in some games...
October 20th, 2018 at 5:55 PM ^
Shea could’ve taken some better shots but we ran all over the best rushing D in the country!!!
October 21st, 2018 at 2:23 AM ^
Like Ohio State or LSU this week?
October 20th, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
Higdon slipped and missed the handoff so that one really isn't on him for holding onto the ball.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
So, you registered today to troll the board? Nice timing buddy.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
God would you please take a hike. 400 yards away from home is fine. We covered, which we haven’t done in forever. Eat a bag of D’s
October 20th, 2018 at 8:48 PM ^
Good teams like Wisconsin and MSU? Or good teams like Penn State (who lost to MSU)?
Would Michigan be competitive with Alabama right now? No. Would they be competitive with OSU? Definitely.
Keep those goal posts moving!
October 20th, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
Left points on the field. Game shouldn't have been in jeopardy in the third quarter when the elements came into play. Shea is passing on makeable throws to open receivers.
But then, unlike past years, Michigan made the plays. The biggest play of the year so far, the bomb to DPJ. And then a crushing, boot-to-the-throat drive against the best running defense in the country to score the third TD.
We got punched in the mouth in the third. And it didn't matter.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
Well said. I'm more pessimistic with this offense going forward and into coming years but yes, they got smacked by weather and Big Mo but they held tough and made plays down the stretch.
October 20th, 2018 at 5:09 PM ^
I totally agree, but value we came came back and dominated. Shows true character of this team. What a win!!
October 20th, 2018 at 5:26 PM ^
I think that's the best thing about Patterson. Even on days when he's struggling somewhat (Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan State), he's able to make plays.
I think he's the best quarterback Michigan has had since Henne.
