Drew Singleton to transfer
Very surprising IMO. It seems like he was set to get a lot of playing time either later this year or next season. Best of luck to him.

Ouch, that hurts depth. Thought he was gonna be a stud at LB under Brown. Kick in the crotch after the Gary news.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:53 PM ^
It doesn't hurt depth in any meaningful way. When have you seen Singleton this year? Bush, Gil, Ross, Anthony is your two deep.
I'm surprised by this news, but Singleton had even made it to "rotational" yet - it's not a major blow for this season.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
Played on special teams, and as much as I don’t want to think it could happen, any 2 of those 4 you listed could get dinged up at any time. Now it’s a probably a walk on in his place, which is what we don’t want at the end of the season with our biggest games in front of us.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:00 PM ^
McGrone is probably 5th at either ILB spot too. You're talking "how many injuries would have to happen between now and the end of the year to get down to our 6th ILB?"
IDK man, I wouldn't advise planning your life around contingencies below 1% in probability.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:06 PM ^
Well either way it’s unfortunate he’s gone because most of us seemed to think he was gonna be a contributor eventually in his career. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
Furbush and Uche could play more snaps. I would be a bit surprised if Singleton would have been used ahead of them.
A 3rd/4th string player at a position with some flexibility to move people around hardly seems like something to worry about now. Maybe for 2020.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:05 PM ^
I saw him draw an unsportsmanlike penalty on the 2nd half kickoff vs Maryland and Harbaugh ripping into him.
Hard not to speculate that these two situations are unrelated. The incident might have put him in JH’s doghouse and he decided not to fight his way out?
October 17th, 2018 at 8:09 PM ^
I can imagine that it didn’t help. Just seemed like he was a great fit for Brown’s D. In a year or two I thought he would be a breakout player for us.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
"...he decided not to fight his way out?"
This is a shitty piece of guessing, and you should feel bad. You basically just said the guy has no heart. He came back from an ACL tear and got on the field this year, he can fight just fine.
Instead of offering up a bunch of unsubstantiated, crappy hawt takes, how about we just wish him well for the future?
October 17th, 2018 at 9:13 PM ^
My intent was not to question his heart. It might have been a perfectly rational decision.
It really depends on the severity of JH’s doghouse and whether the reward is worth the fight. If JH told him that he would likely not see even ST play the rest of this year, maybe he decided the upside was greater elsewhere. These guys work incredibly hard and sacrifice so much, I don’t blame them for wanting quality time.
I thought Drew had incredible potential and would push to start next year, so surprised about his exit.
October 17th, 2018 at 11:54 PM ^
“You people” on this board always telling people to feel bad.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:46 PM ^
I think you're on to something, but I think you actually have it reversed. I would guess that the incident probably spoke volumes to him already being pretty deep in the doghouse.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
There is no "Gary news", yet. There is speculation, so don't misrepresent it.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
Yeah, it's someone on another message board saying rather cryptic "he might be out, but it's not like other players" and people extrapolating from that.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:58 PM ^
Well he isn’t playing Saturday so there is some news.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:25 PM ^
There are people who are not Harbaugh or Gary saying that Gary is not playing Saturday. The unrealistic optimist in me wants to think it is a disinformation campaign.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:44 PM ^
It’s not really news. Since he didn’t dress against Wisconsin—an all-hands-on-deck game—one had to expect that he wouldn’t be ready a week later.
October 18th, 2018 at 12:15 AM ^
Nor the following Saturday.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:54 PM ^
UMBig11 seems to think he’s going to be out for a while, if not the whole season. While technically it is speculation, he’s got quite a bit of credibility in these situations.
I’d be surprised if we see him play on Saturday.
October 17th, 2018 at 9:11 PM ^
Agree. We won’t see Gary for awhile. For sure out this week.
October 17th, 2018 at 10:38 PM ^
Agreed...He gone. Probably an injury worse than we know nothing about.
October 18th, 2018 at 3:08 AM ^
UmBig11 has lost almost all of his credibility. Around this time last week he said Gary would play against Wisconsin and Dwumfour would not. He has no credible info, he has a bone to pick with the coaching staff, he doesn't have shit. He's someone that used to be an insider that is no longer reliable. I used to be a big fan, but he really lost me in the last few weeks. If UmBig11 says Gary is out for the year, he'll be back before then.
October 17th, 2018 at 9:12 PM ^
What Gary news?
October 18th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
Man are you right. I hate to hear that Rashan Gary is moving on.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:51 PM ^
Damn. Thought he could have been a stud as soon as next season. This is college football these days I guess.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:08 PM ^
He plays behind Gill and Ross, and they will both be back.
October 17th, 2018 at 9:16 PM ^
I thought he was going to be a stud as well.
That being said, it isn't the worst thing in the world to have best-in-class players transfering out due to not being able to see the field.
It's a a good "problem" to have.
Wish him the best of luck and will be rooting for him!
October 17th, 2018 at 7:52 PM ^
He was the LB in his class I was most excited for. Really surprised, but at the same time he's third string and behind guys in his own class. This is the limited downside to taking loaded classes at a single position.
October 17th, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
It’s a bummer for sure. I was most excited about Ross. He just looked like a dude in high school. Like he was playing against JV teams the whole time.
October 17th, 2018 at 11:17 PM ^
I'm with you here. His ranking was well below his raw athleticism due to his ACL injury and subsequent lack of scouting. He was a perfect example of a high ceiling, yet under the radar talent. Also loved that NJ pipeline. Oh well.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:54 PM ^
Im not terribly surprised by this move. Lots of linebackers on the roster with more coming in. Best of luck Drew!
October 17th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
Wish him luck. Hopefully he finds a place where he can get some time on the field.
October 17th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
Bummed, thought he had a ton of upside. Anyone know if this is just a playing time transfer or something else?
October 17th, 2018 at 8:00 PM ^
Sad to see him go. Wish him the best.
I don’t remember him playing much this year but didnt Harbaugh absolutely rip him a new one on special teams a few weeks ago for a personal foul penalty?
October 17th, 2018 at 8:00 PM ^
phew! for a moment there i thought there were 10 Singletons transferring and not just one.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:02 PM ^
-1 for your shitty handle
October 17th, 2018 at 8:37 PM ^
Avatar is not as disturbing though.
October 17th, 2018 at 10:02 PM ^
This. Love FauxMo. This guy/gal ... not so much
October 17th, 2018 at 10:11 PM ^
+1 for creativity.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:00 PM ^
pretty sure it was him who Harbaugh chewed out a few weeks ago on sideline on TV after that pointless personal foul on special teams
October 17th, 2018 at 8:01 PM ^
October 17th, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
Gonna need more than one LB in this class.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:04 PM ^
Any chance Otis Reese turns in the keys to his brand new car and transfers to Michigan?
October 17th, 2018 at 8:05 PM ^
October 17th, 2018 at 8:10 PM ^
Getting Quavaris Crouch as a LB would be big.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:08 PM ^
First the news about Rashan Gary; now the news about Drew Singleton. Not a great day for the Paramus (NJ) Catholic HS pipeline to the Michigan Wolverines football program.
October 17th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
Rashan is not news, it's speculation
October 17th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
It seems like NJ is a recruiting bust.
October 18th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
Yea, I mean what did that peppers guy ever do for us? Oh, Heisman finalist? I guess that was okay.
But that JBB guy? Oh, our starting tackle who is showing great improvement?
But what about that Dwumfor guy? Oh, good rotational playmaker on the DL.
Yes, what a bust recruiting these NJ guys.

October 17th, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
Damn that sucks. He was really highly rated recruit if I remember. When guys in his class were playing before him though I knew it was a bad sign. Good luck to the kid
