/r/cfb's 1st Annual Michigan State Respek Thread
A Reddit thread definitely not created to un-jinx M this week:
https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/9od9ks/1st_annual_michigan_state_respek_thread/
MSU fans are the most pleasant and erudite people I know.
October 15th, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
I also had prompt and friendly service at the EL Dunkin' Donuts one time.
October 15th, 2018 at 5:11 PM ^
Reddit is the anus (or Columbus) of the internet.
EDIT: Wow I looked at this thread and I never knew there were rational people in the MSU fanbase.../gobsmacked
October 15th, 2018 at 5:15 PM ^
since the reddit risk game I post a lot more there than here - mods shut down trolls quick, and website is easier than MBlog 3.0
October 15th, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
Agreed. Also no soccer coverage nor Ann Arbor political hot takes.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:37 PM ^
Those political posts were cool - I simply made sure to vote for whoever Brian painted as evil.
October 15th, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
I also enjoy Reddit admittedly, and if we had a few more mods, we could probably shut down trolls almost as quickly. I am jealous of that actually.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:52 PM ^
You guys could just make points actually meaningful. Yes mods ban people on /r/CFB ,but even before they do it's not really a problem because bad comments get downvoted and caved by the user base.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
I'm jealous of their ability to upvote.
Never thought I'd miss points that don't matter. But here I am.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:20 PM ^
Ad blocker is a must for mgoblog 3.0. Site is a mess without it
October 15th, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
That's awesome. But the few times I've ventured to Reddit it was nothing but a bunch of pseudointellectuals who were all very impressed with how smart they were.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:38 PM ^
That's an accurate representation of the site as a whole.
I don't like the formatting and the voting system means that posts outside the accepted groupthink are generally not seen.
It used to be an ok site before the fun police and the Internet outrage brigade ruined it. Just like everything else.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
The fact you're being negged shows that some of them have escaped and made it over here
October 15th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
Generalizing about reddit is about as useful as generalizing about human beings as a whole. There's every kind of sub-reddit for every topic and every kind of people.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:42 PM ^
r/cfb is the complete opposite of almost every college football message board. Posters there are rational, down to earth, and surprisingly polite.
October 15th, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
r/cfb is pretty great. Not perfect, but what is?
October 15th, 2018 at 5:27 PM ^
Strongly disagree, Reddit is like the only place I can find reasonable takes. As much as I love mgoblog content, this message board is filled with slappys.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
Cool man, impress those reddit peeps with your glass half empty takes...this is a Michigan fan blog after all
October 15th, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
Having a viewpoint that is something other than sunshine and rainbows doesn't make someone less of a Michigan fan. You are entitled to be a Pollyanna, but we are entitled to take off our rose colored glasses if we so choose. This is a Michigan fan blog, not an echo chamber for unbridled optimism and cheerleading.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:39 PM ^
I could knit pick and bitch too, the team isn’t perfect but why waste the time and energy...I guess some people are just assholes
October 15th, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
To pick a nit the word is not knit.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:40 PM ^
You're obviously an undercover agent from Columbus.
Our glasses are maize colored.
October 15th, 2018 at 8:09 PM ^
Nice!
I didn't catch that...
October 15th, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
r/cfb is surprisingly pretty tame and can be really entertaining
October 15th, 2018 at 5:38 PM ^
Welp I stand corrected!
October 15th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
The comments on Reddit are eons better than MGoBlog or any team specific site.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
Agreed. Get a good bunch of fairly rational posters from all different fan bases.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
The other board is always the cooler one, isn't it.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
You should check out r/cfb. It's become my 1b to my 1a at mgoblog. A lot of friendly folks talking college football. Being a dick is frowned upon and there's a lot of friendly ribbing. You can hate reddit at large, but cfb is a good spot for general college football news and conversation - and as noted above, at least there I can share pessimistic expectations for Michigan football without being negged to hell. If you predict a loss around here, you'd think you were spitting on Bo's grave by how pissy some people get
October 15th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
Can you post a link to it?
October 15th, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
I think we all respect MSU... The players are at attention and the hate is there.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:07 PM ^
I don’t respect that piece of shit program one bit
October 15th, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
I need this to be a "what's your deal?" kind of a game. . .
October 15th, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
The Kentucky/Michigan fan telling Sparty fan how much in awe he is of their "literacy" is hilarious. I respekt that. Both the fan for speaking his truth in his admiration and the Sparty fans for their literacy skills. Group hug everyone.
October 15th, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
There are currently single tickets available on the MSU website for face plus fees ($92). Just got mine...buy them up!
October 15th, 2018 at 6:32 PM ^
But...by believing that MSU can only beat some other team with disrespect mojo, is disrespectful...head spins...
October 15th, 2018 at 7:05 PM ^
Dantonio is an excellent coach. And, off the top of my head, they’re one of the top 15 programs of this decade. I have no problem saying these things.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:40 PM ^
Mike is (a) a really good coach, and (b) a really shitty person. If Mike had athletes like Urban, he'd be a fixture of the playoffs.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:17 PM ^
I think that thread is full of clever and funny comments. A lot of the posters on the board could learn a thing or two.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:21 PM ^
From both schools, I might add .
October 15th, 2018 at 9:31 PM ^
Absolutely. The back and forth between posters from many different schools has great timing and delivery.
October 15th, 2018 at 7:47 PM ^
Holly Sonders went to MSU, so it's not all bad...
October 15th, 2018 at 8:02 PM ^
247 sports gives MSU a 75 percent chance of making the playoffs if they win out.
Not so sure on this. Those two losses MSU has received are not good at all. MSU is not even ranked in one of the current polls, low in another.
No two loss team has made the playoffs.
Let’s say MSU beats the 8th ranked penn state (who may barely be a top 25 team by the season end), beats the 6th ranked Michigan (would move MSU up to 15th/16th in polls) and then beats a 2 ranked OSU team (would move them up to 8/9). In the big championship beat a 15th ranked Wisconsin team (most likely the west winner)...
would that be a playoff team? 11-2? Four good wins and two bad losses?
I guess this is why all the games are played.
October 15th, 2018 at 8:04 PM ^
Fuck State. I'll own this one.
October 15th, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
Did you guys know Michigan State is number one in nuclear physics??? I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years...
- Per US News and World report
October 15th, 2018 at 9:24 PM ^
Skeptical
October 16th, 2018 at 7:41 AM ^
Ya know, I worked for a steel fabricator in Lansing. One morning I went to work and started building massive columns for the FRIB particle collider tunnel.
Under the base plates of one of those columns, "GO BLUE" is written in "maize" paint marker.
I also worked on the Spartan Stadium addition. The window fascia visible from the river side of the stadium also has the same writing inside the tubes.
I did my part
October 15th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
I don't think we should joke about respecting the school/institution/athletic department that covered for and enabled Larry Nassar for decades. Not to mention how sketchy Izzo and Dantonio are with their harboring of rapists and criminals, imperiling the student body in order to win games. MSU is a disgusting, irredeemable institution that is a stain on college athletics and humanity as a whole and should be treated as such.
October 15th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
You couldn't even wait a week to post this...if you can't make it, fake it
