I'll take an unsportsmanlike penalty after a pick-six to go up 31-7 against Wisconsin any day. So, yeah. We really didn't have ANY penalties. No holds. No defensive PI. Great disciplined play tonight.

It was basically a 5 yard penalty because Wisconsin covered the ball at their own 30.

M played much more disciplined today.
Also true that this ref crew just was not calling holding and PI penalties tonight. Both teams got a way with a lot of stuff that other crews this year would flag for holding.

That roughing the snapper call on them really changed the game. Nice to be on the good side of one of those game changing calls.

They were letting holds go on both teams all game. Winovich was consistently getting tackled and Michigan had a few big plays with very clear holds (Patterson's rushing TD is one example, Gentry held the OLB)

Normally, I would have been pissed that Dan Capron's crew was working tonight's game. For those who don't know, Capron's crew worked The Game in Columbus when Harbaugh went off. And after that, the league responded by moving Capron's crew to an exclusive schedule involving West Division teams of the Big Ten. However, when they play East Division teams apparently, that crew gets to work those games.
Which explains why last year, the crew worked only the Minnesota game at the Big House, which as it happened, was also a night game. So given the circumstances, I was antiipating the assignment based upon watching other league games today.
As it turned out, Michigan got the benefit of whatever doubt there might have been on perhaps the biggest call of the game, a personal foul call on the long snapper. How ironic, that Wisconsin would get hurt by fouling the Cheesman. Otherwise, the officials as usual let all kinds of offensive holding go uncalled on Wisconsin's Oline and backs.
For once, it seemed like home field advantage was a real thing. And so given what tonight's win means to the program going forward, that was a huge deal.

Did Cheeseman flop or was that legit? Wisconsin also had a hold on that play, which may not have resulted in a first down.

I mean it doesn't really matter if he flopped, the rule simply states you can't make contact with the snapper until a full second after the snap. Doesn't have to be forceable contact. Was pretty clear he didn't wait long enough, at least to me.

The hold would have been applied to the end of the return, I believe.

They didn't state either way, but it's rare for the hold to occur before the ball is kicked, so I think you're probably right. (Hold before the kick -- penalty applies at the spot of the snap; hold after the kick -- penalty applies at the end of the kick).

Still a lot of missed holding calls. One pass attempt in the 4th collar I saw two michigan players held to the ground with no call. I assumed the refs just wanted to get home.

Yes, I about shit a brick when I saw Dan Capron on my tele. At first, I thought it was John O'Neill, who is another official who elicts extreme profanity from my vocal chords. I just checked the box score of the game, and guess who was a side judge? None other than our other good pal, Bobby Sagers! Makes it even sweeter to beat down Wisconsin with those bastards on the field.

All aspects of the game seemed to click.
This piece (or lack of) is huge. Penalties kill momentum, give back momentum (to the bad guys). Each penalty is a mistake and a killer. To basically have zero penalties is boggling when framed with where this team was earlier in the year.
