MSU Starting G David Beedle out for a month
Freep link with relevant quotes and more
So as of now, MSU has:
- Starting G David Beedle out
- Starting G Kevin Jarvis who missed the last 2 games and has been seen in a walking boot
- Starting T Luke Campbell, who moved to guard after injuries, who hasn't started the last 2 games but has played
- Starting T Cole Chewins who hasn't started at all this year due to injury. He's played but never a full game and looked ineffective while in.
- Starting WR Cody White out with a broken hand suffered against CMU
- WR Jalen Nailor out who missed CMU and NW
- WR Darrell Stewart who missed CMU, played vs NW but Dantonioa claimed was hampered by his injury
- Starting RB LJ Scott, who has sat the last 3 games and each time made the choice to sit himself as a game time decision
- Starting CB Josiah Scott who has been out all year after suffering a meniscus injury. Dantonio said last week he is close to returning to practice
- Starting CB Josh Butler who played one play vs CMU, played this past week but got dinged up, though he came back
- Starting P Jake Hartbarger who is probably out for the season

Sounds like they've been saving alot of guys for us
October 8th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
I'm sure the local jail has a couple guys with eligibility left too.
October 8th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
No excuses. Next man up. Right?
October 8th, 2018 at 2:29 PM ^
Right. Excuses they would have denied us were the shoe on the other foot. Sparty had no trouble hooting and crowing about winning games when we were undermanned. Paybacks can be a bitch.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Right, like those were great Michigan teams they beat from 2008-2014...oh, sparty...
October 8th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
They did NOT beat Michigan in 2012.
October 8th, 2018 at 4:20 PM ^
Correct because Drew Dileo is the motherfucking threat.
October 8th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
Classic cry baby Dantonio right here, “I’m never gonna stand up here and make excuses and say we should not have won the game because we had too many injuries...”
As he does just that by bringing it up at all.
October 8th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
Good thing Mork can develop any 2 star player in an all American.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:15 PM ^
And coach up walk-ons to 4* status.
October 8th, 2018 at 9:20 PM ^
By October 20th though?
October 8th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
So basically White and the Scott’s will be back for us. Bring it on.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
Why would you believe White? He has a broken hand
October 8th, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
Tai Streets, playing with two broken fingers, helped ensure Michigan would go undefeated in 1997.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
What game was this?
October 8th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
Streets played most of the regular season with broken/dislocated fingers on each hand. That was a big reason why his stats were way down that year. His hands healed for the Rose Bowl and he caught the two bombs.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
Right, but if you've seen the video this seems like a pretty serious injury. I of course could be wrong
October 8th, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^
If Josiah Scott plays he will be limited physically and thus exploitable.
If LJ Scott plays, well ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Dude is averaging 3.4 yards per carry and MSU's rush offense is second worst in the Big Ten.
As for Cody White, even if he somehow were to play, how effective could a guy be with a hand that's only had three weeks to heal?
October 8th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
LJ is keeping himself out so the pro scouts don't see how bad he actually is. Doesn't want to hurt his draft stock that he had after last year.
Partially /s
October 8th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
That's not crazy, actually.
October 8th, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
Right, hence the "partially /s" piece. He's probably thinking to himself, "Man, I should have just went pro last year." And he's probably not wrong.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
Yeah, LJ Scott has been steadily getting worse since he arrived at MSU; I doubt he's saving up his greatness for this game. My guess is he just wants to get out of EL so he can get drafted in the 6th round and start fighting for a roster spot in the NFL.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
If you've seen that OL run block it's hard to blame him. If he's limited and taking a beating, the better call may be to say he can't go.
But I wouldn't put it past him wanting to showcase his ability in a big-time game. Get fully healthy, have a great game, then shut it down.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
I actually would not put it past Dantonio to hold him out all season specifically to be fresh/rested for Michigan.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
Not sure if this in jest, because it's plausible, but I don't think so. The Heyward kid pretty good, very tough, and doesn't fumble. A little limited athletically. He's very Sparty, and yes meant as a compliment. If Scott is sandbagging I don't think Dantonio benches Heyward for him. Remember he was out for Michigan last year.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:16 PM ^
Not in jest. Obviously it would surprise me, but wouldn't completely shock me.
October 8th, 2018 at 4:52 PM ^
He would do just as well to go undrafted

October 8th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Yeah, we've heard this before with them. Then they come out and play their best game of the year against us. So, I'll remain a skeptic until we beat them a week from Saturday.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Yeab for real, they're all just healing up for our game.
October 9th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
No doubt. If they said somebody died, I wouldn't be surprised if he (or his zombie) came back for the UM-MSU game.
I am sure Harbaugh expects every single player on the OP list to be in the game.
October 8th, 2018 at 9:13 PM ^
I don't know. I saw them against Northwestern and they could not block NW's D-line. All of our gameplans and strategies and playcalls and haven't worked for the last 10 years basically. That's because our O line has sucked. I don't care what plays they have saved, if they can't block we're going to crush them.
October 9th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
I guarantee you they will block the best all year in the UM-MSU game.

Sucks for Beedle. I actually respect that guy for some of the stuff he said in the wake of the Nassar mess:
"As a student athlete at Michigan State University, it has been a dream of mine to attend this great institution and wear the green and white with pride and honor," Beedle wrote. "Along with being a student athlete, I have been provided a platform that requires leadership and integrity. With the events that have occurred recently regarding Nassar and other assault victims, there is no apology that will erase the pain these young girls and children have experienced. As a MALE football player, situations such as this are rare and if it was to arise in football, I feel that action would've been taken immediately. No matter the sport, gender, ethnicity or race, we are all human and deserve to be protected and treated equally. To the women involved, you are stronger than many people could even dream of and I commend you for working towards the justice you deserve. It is my hope that MSU will continue to work at putting forth leaders who share the same principles that I do and who are dedicated to the safety of all. When it's all said and done, it's about the people that make up this beautiful University and I can only hope that the correct actions will be taken to keep the Student body and our Spartan family in tact.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
That's a big improvement over what Reschke said
October 8th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
Does this mean that Dantonio may resort to starting some weird guys as well? I suppose we will find out soon enough.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
The Scott thing is weird. He's choosing to sit himself out? Is he saving himself for the draft?
October 8th, 2018 at 2:10 PM ^
he wont even be drafted.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^
Sounds like it. Often with a soft tissue injury that doesn't register in a diagnostic test, trainers will leave it up to the player because he's the only one that knows what kind of pain he's in and how effective he feels he can be.
And these are the classic situations in which coaches put a lot of pressure on guys to play because they figure if there's nothing detectible that is wrong, just fight through the pain. These are the kinds of injuries that Zordich calls guys out for sitting.
So Scott is saying, I can't go. Impossible to tell whether he thinks he's in danger of getting hurt more, whether he thinks he wouldn't be effective so it would hurt his draft stock (cuz have you seen that MSU line?) or what he's thinking.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
He's thinking "I have to be 100% when Michigan comes to town" and the coaches are letting him do what he needs to do for that. My .02 anyway.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
I think that may be fan paranoia. I don't think he's going to sacrifice a month just to be back to play us.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
I have seen turf-toe mentioned on RCMB. No one seems to know for sure but a lot of message-board warriors were questioning his dedication and toughness...some even mentioned McDowell as a comparison.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
turf toe is not a joke, Billy Sims was plagued by it and the Detroit fans were not kind, it isn't just a stubbed toe with a black nail.
October 8th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
Billy Sims once tipped me $100 for a $10 pizza.
October 8th, 2018 at 9:55 PM ^
you are so full of it. since when do llamas deliver pizza? fibber!
October 8th, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
Meh. Sparty always has some guy who plays hurt or steps in to play well. Let’s just see who takes the field in two weeks.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:15 PM ^
The negative/cynical part of my brain: Even if these all these o line injuries remain, their duct-taped o line will still hold their own against our D line, which, player-for-player, is far more talented and more well coached and this game will be incredibly close
The positive and hopeful part of my brain: These kids are sick and tired of MSU and their talk and this will be the year we have the chip on our shoulders and we bring the wood.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Translation: They will hold the FUCK out of us and not get called for it.
October 8th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
MD is the Bear Bryant of teaching his teams to play the dirtiest brand of football and not garner the appropriate amount of flags their dirty (meaning holds, chips, PIs, etc.) play warrants
October 8th, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
He really is. I hope our scout team is playing like that in practice next week.
October 8th, 2018 at 2:15 PM ^
