Not a huge hockey guy and didn't watch at all, but figured the result of the season opener should be posted.

I was at the game. Michigan had 50 shots on goal to Vermont’s 24. Vermonts goalie made some unbelievable saves. Notwithstanding the loss, Michigan’s team is going to ge very good this year. The Children if Yost were in mid-season form.

Bagpipes.   The pep band bagpipes were epic.

Otherwise, we hit about 4 or 5 posts or crossbars, had 50 official shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net.   Vermont's goalie stood on his head, and Vermont's offense capitalized on their golden chances.    Hopefully early season cobwebs will shake off quickly.

Always disappointing to lose, but in the end this won't have much significance either way. It is good that Michigan outplayed Vermont for large periods, from the reports; that tends to translate to success down the line.

Though I open the season a bit concerned about who will be scoring goals. We have some good puck movers, particularly Hughes; we need guys to finish to really pay that skill off.

Typical for MI Hockey.  For some unknown reason there has been a strong tendency to lose one or more of the early games before turning it on.

In the first couple of games I'm looking for which freshmen played and how they looked. The one I noticed was Nick Blankenburg. Looks a lot like Hughes ---5"9" and 160 lbs. on D (that's me as an undergrad) but he was all over the ice and seemed to get a lot of shifts.
