Marcus Ray Takes More Shots at Michigan

Submitted by Clancy's Hands on October 5th, 2018 at 6:01 PM

Marcus Ray took yet more shots at Michigan football yesterday on "The Spartan Beat With Rico Beard" radio show (it can be found on iTunes - it begins at @ the 1:17:20 mark). Among the lowlights:

"Ohio State is about getting stops. I think Michigan is more about getting stats....when you can't win championships like Michigan can't, then you have to hang your hat on something else."

"[Michigan says] we got the number one defense in the world. Against who?"

"Northwestern should have blown Michigan out."

"Michigan's problem is that they out-athlete the bad teams and get out-coached against the good teams."

After trashing Michigan fans, he claims that he "dropped the mic in Ann Arbor" because he would rather talk to Rico Beard of The Spartan Beat.

"Michigan fans are trapped in this twilight zone of 'even when we stink, we smell good'."

Looks like he's a guy with some burnt bridges behind him he isn't ever re-crossing. Someone who's such a full-on attention whore that he'd rather rub his own nose in the mess he's made than go unnoticed.

I don't think hostility like that ever wins you many prizes, let alone hostility toward one's own. I mean, you really want to be drinking beer in bad bars with MSU and OSU fans the rest of your life? How much are they going to respect you?

I think he was actually pretty informative when focusing on play-related specifics, but his ego was just ridiculous. I don't think I've ever heard anybody on the radio who spent so much of his time blowing smoke up his own ass. Every week it was "I knocked this guy out at practice and I knocked that guy out at practice the next day and they were all afraid of me and I know more about defense than any of Michigan's coaches."

The only times he got anything over near-catatonic on Jamie's show was when he was talking about himself. He had zero interest in engaging on anything else.

He has insights

we fans can’t compete with his expert analysis

would be more palatable if he didn’t seem so bitter. No reason to do that your alma mater

but the actual analysis sans bluster seems spot on

Michigan fans suck but so do literally all college football fans and Marcus Ray has outed himself as trash that can fuck off about the Michigan football program.

More of a head scratcher is why people gotta tear him down for his weight. Being heavy is something that is pretty indiscriminate from the douchebags to the cool people. I’m sure there are more than a few posters on here that are on the heavy side that are bumming over all the weight jokes. I’d like to see this more as a dialogue about how he is a narcissist jerkoff that has to keep making inflammatory statements so people don’t forget he exists rather than pick on him for something shallow.

How about: he’s a narcissist who clearly has a hard time controlling his weight.  Discussing both makes sense because from a psychological perspective, an overweight disorder typically reflects a lack of self control which seems to be doubly obvious in Marcus’s inability to operate the filter between his brain and mouth. Having both the inability to control his physical  health as well as control his word choice will spell the quick end of any dwindling relevance he had w the program.  That’s too bad.

He had a sweet NFL Europe career.

Dude is a bum STILL riding Woodson’s coattails. Fuck that guy and Braylon. The two should go have coffee.

Yes NW outcoached us, we have vastly superior talent, yet only won by 3.  Our offensive play calling was pathetic and we out talented them at the end.  Constantly running into a stacked box and burning downs is not smart coaching.  WMU and Nebraska it didn't matter who was coaching, Hoke could have coached us to a win against those teams.

And sure Wimbush got lucky on some plays, yet our defense came out flat and put us in an early hole.  I didn't see anything in that game that made me think we outcoached ND, and we obviously didn't have the talent to make up for that.

This wasn't ND, they marched right down the field on us.  Our defense wasn't prepared.  They got their act together and played up to their potential after the first half.  Is it really an example of great coaching when you adjust and get your guys to play like they should have in the first place?  I mean... kudos to the coaches I guess.  But that isn't going to work against a better team.  See ND.  Fortunately we had the better athletes so we were able to make the comeback.

But if i'm looking at who did the better coaching job, it was NW who came out with a great game plan and made it a game.  In the end they couldn't hold on as they just didn't have the talent to keep up.

I'm trying to think of a team in recent history that we beat who had more talent than us.  You could make the argument I guess that we outcoached OSU the last two years, but got out talented in the end.  But do we really want to discuss moral victories?

NW didn’t outcoach us. Sorry that you think so. The second half statistics tell a story. Yardage, points, time of possession, etc all day that Michigan made more adjustments, and they were successful, than NW made. That’s smart coaching, and let’s give credit here to the players, who also adjusted and performed well.

ND looks great, but I don’t think they have much of a schedule to fear either. Sometimes teams play poorly, it’s life.

Newsflash BlueWolverine02: You do not know more about play-calling than our coaching staff.  Play calls are sometimes made in certain situations against certain defensive looks for reasons neither you, nor most fans, can begin to fathom. This should not come as a great surprise.

I would agree, notre dame out coached, northwestern I think outcoached, beat nw cuz more talent and don brown settled defense down. Harbaugh has been getting out coached on the offensive side of ball since jedd fisch left
