17.5 seems high. I'm saying this because that's what we said about Nebraska. Here's to hoping for a similar result.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:41 PM ^
Very high. I'm picking Maryland to cover. Michigan wins by 1, at the most.
If you guys saw my picks. You'd be thanking me.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:48 PM ^
Thank you.
September 30th, 2018 at 10:39 PM ^
You are welcome
September 30th, 2018 at 9:48 PM ^
They've got a new coach, and he brings a new attitude. Gotta watch out that we don't get out-hit.
September 30th, 2018 at 10:42 PM ^
Do we need to be concerned about his mom?
October 1st, 2018 at 11:15 AM ^
Nah, she's Canadian.
October 1st, 2018 at 12:52 AM ^
Wait what? What are you talking about hits for? I thought the pressure from the media made them fire Zach Smith...
[checks internet]
Oops, wrong B1G East school. My bad.
October 1st, 2018 at 1:12 AM ^
Are they talking penalties or points?
September 30th, 2018 at 9:40 PM ^
I'm not sure if we need to worry about Maryland or not. They beat Texas but also lost to Temple. Their speed of play could cause us problems but I can also see Michigan beating them handily.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:45 PM ^
Using the fool-proof method of the transitive property, I'm hoping that a Michigan team that put up nearly 400 yards of offense with no turnovers against a better NW defense (now #31 per S&P+) on the road can put up more yards and points against a statistically lesser defense while at home.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
They seem pretty one dimensional on offense and Michigan has been pretty strong against the run. I think this is a good matchup.
October 1st, 2018 at 12:27 AM ^
This should be a bloodbath since it's in Ann Arbor. Unless it's against MSU, we tend to be ready to play from the whistle at home.
October 1st, 2018 at 7:48 AM ^
Michigan looked good in the early stages of last year's MSU game: field goal, defensive stop, then a promising drive that made it near midfield when Isaac fumbled and everything went to shit.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:41 PM ^
At home? We’ll cover easy...
September 30th, 2018 at 9:49 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing. Devil is in the details. Or the devil is in the clown face. AAAAA!!!!
September 30th, 2018 at 11:09 PM ^
Says the genius who stated we would easily cover 14.5 v Northwestern.
Faux - at times you are a little funny, most times somewhat demented. But you know jack shit about college football.
17.5 about right. Coin flip.
To those who thought we would cover against Northwestern in Evanston - dont quit your day job to start sports betting. Some of those comments last week about us crushing Northwestern were perhaps the most asinine comments I have read on Mgoblog - usually a pretty educated group on football.
October 1st, 2018 at 1:48 AM ^
So wait, only people who knew we would have a nail-biter against NW know about college football? And so the professional gamblers who set the line at -11, which was then pushed by (mostly) other professional gamblers to -14.5, are all idiots too? I assume you’re somewhere on record saying we’d be losing the game until late in the 4th quarter, right Jimmy the Greek??
October 1st, 2018 at 3:11 AM ^
This guy knows shit about college football. After the games are over. Sounds like he lost a car, car, house bet on UM.
October 1st, 2018 at 6:43 AM ^
"At home, we'll cover easy" is a post I would expect on the RCMB. Combine it with your strong but misguided pregame Northwestern opinion - aint seeing much substance in your calls, my man.
October 1st, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^
Mike Damone,
first, NU’s Stadium is nice - not a shit box. It’s just small.
Secondly, I think a lot of people experienced recency bias when NU was supposed to play M tough in 2015 and it ended up 38-0.
Perhaps 38-0 to 20-17 is the difference between home and away for NU in conference games but I don’t think it’s ignorance of college football to suggest something unexpected was happening to go from beating a 10 win NU team 38-0 to beating this version of NU 20-17.

Deleted.
October 1st, 2018 at 7:12 AM ^
Yeah, why in the world would Michigan fans think that they could beat a 1-win Northwestern team who lost to Duke and Akron by 14 points?
We shoulda known we aren't very good.
October 1st, 2018 at 7:59 AM ^
You are wrong about Northwestern. They are far better than their record.
October 1st, 2018 at 8:48 AM ^
B1G Winning - Going to say it now, I will say it 2 years from now, and I will say it 20 years from now - NEVER BET AGAINST NORTHWESTERN IN EVANSTON IN A BIG 10 GAME, AND NEVER EXPECT A BLOWOUT.
It is stupid to think we crush them there. Ever. It was as if some of the MGoBlog folks had gone insane, and hadn't watched Michigan or Big Ten football for the last 20 years.
You get into Evanston and their little shitbox stadium, get the win by any score whatsoever, anyway possible, and get on 94E back to Ann Arbor quickly, being thankful for the win. EVERY time you play there.
Anyone who thinks differently than this holds little credibility with me on their knowledge of Michigan and Big Ten college football. Period.
Go Blue!

How much did you win betting against Michigan this weekend? Let’s see a bet slip Nostradamus
October 1st, 2018 at 9:27 AM ^
Why would I bet against Michigan when I want them to win.
Does this work for you, from Wed, 9/24:
https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/siap-um-opens-11-against-nw-135-some-books#comment-243088136
Your brilliant quote on 9/24: "Northwestern lost to Duke and a MAC team at home already this year, and the crowd will make this basically a neutral field game. Like someone says vis-a-vis S&P+ below, going just on the numbers, UM should win this game going away pretty easily."
Huh...
October 1st, 2018 at 9:42 AM ^
He wasn't wrong in saying any of that stuff though. They did lose to Arkon and Duke. They also lost their #1 back. It was a neutral site game at best for NW... None of that was wrong, but that's why we play the game. NW came out and hit a couple big plays on us. NW is not good though. Besides the aforementioned losses to medicore teams, they blew a 17-0 lead at home to a team that had never come back from a -17 hole under coach Harbaugh. After the 1st quarter, that was a 20-0 game, and should have been more with out some specious calls to keep NW in it.
October 1st, 2018 at 9:46 AM ^
You guys just don't get it. It is just not intelligent to say we are going to pummel Northwestern in Evanston EVER!
Anyone who does holds no credibility regarding their knowledge of college football.
October 1st, 2018 at 11:26 AM ^
So everyone everywhere other than you and Nothwestern fans have no credibility, including everyone in Vegas? Weird
October 1st, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
I was wrong. Now, let’s see your post where you predicted we go down 17 points basically in the first quarter. You KNEW this was going to be close, so let’s see it.
October 1st, 2018 at 9:59 AM ^
Read the same post - on 9/24, in response to those who said we will win handily, I said, quote:
"I have been in that high school stadium in Evanston too many times to make such statements. It is on the road at Northwestern. Play well, win the game by any margin, and get your ass back onto 94 heading east after the game as quick as you can."
Sounds like the game I watched.
I am out on this topic.
Hope you are right and we kick the living shit out of Maryland. I think 17.5 spread is a coin flip. GO BLUE!!!
October 1st, 2018 at 9:46 AM ^
You can bet against Michigan covering the 14 point spread and still root for Michigan to win.
October 1st, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
Yeah, that makes the game really fun...
October 1st, 2018 at 10:15 AM ^
Nah, just admit it, you didn't know anything either, you were just being a pessimist. And since Michigan is one of the worst teams ATS in the country over a long timeline, that means you have a better than 50-50 shot of being right. But now you want us all to praise your immense football knowledge after the fact because you said "win by any margin and get back on 94" like it was some kind of great insight. But hey man, whatever makes you feel good about yourself on a Monday morning...
October 1st, 2018 at 10:30 AM ^
Yep - I rule!!! Glad we got that straight!
September 30th, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
Seems high, since they are fighting with Purdue for the new Chaos Team title, but we’ve smacked them around pretty well since joining the B1G.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:55 PM ^
Purdue beat Nebraska in Lincoln and looked pretty good so Northwestern may be a far better assessment. Nebraska came out and might have gotten a score if it weren't for that tip INT and then it was literally down hill from there. Northwestern came out and made a huge emotional surge but the damage was limited to one quarter and only 17 points and the Wolverines showed their mettle by getting one back in the 2nd quarter and then doing their usual boa constriction imitation thereafter.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:59 PM ^
Nebraska came out and might have gotten a score if it weren't for that tip INT and then it was literally down hill from there.
Well, it's true that it's a downhill walk from campus to the Stadium, but I'm not sure of the relevance?
September 30th, 2018 at 10:00 PM ^
I think Purdue would be a scarier matchup for us. Maryland is 15th in rushing offense and 119th in passing offense. I feel better about stopping the run than Purdue’s passing game.
September 30th, 2018 at 10:46 PM ^
Totally agree. Refs are too much an uncertainty in passing games than in running games.
October 1st, 2018 at 4:38 AM ^
Expect Michigan to be held and uncalled 18 times and cover.
October 1st, 2018 at 1:33 AM ^
We've done well against them except for that one time that they beat us.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:46 PM ^
Another team coming off bye week before us. Anyone else get that privilege this season? MSU perhaps?
September 30th, 2018 at 9:48 PM ^
MSU has already had their bye week. It was the week after the Arizona State game.
October 1st, 2018 at 7:42 PM ^
Did they win or did they lose against arizona state?
October 2nd, 2018 at 1:20 AM ^
They are now disrespected, so they won.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
MSU already had their bye week in week 3, I think. That has to hurt them later in the season, and help us so they don't have an entire week to prepare for us with more games on film. You know that's all Dantonio does with his bye weeks every year.
September 30th, 2018 at 9:55 PM ^
The week before the MSU game, Michigan plays Wisconsin and state plays PSU. Neither team will be able to overlook the opponent.
September 30th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
Never underestimate Mork, he will use the PSU game to prepare for us.
