Says the genius who stated we would easily cover 14.5 v Northwestern.

Faux - at times you are a little funny, most times somewhat demented.  But you know jack shit about college football.

17.5 about right.  Coin flip.

To those who thought we would cover against Northwestern in Evanston - dont quit your day job to start sports betting.  Some of those comments last week about us crushing Northwestern were perhaps the most asinine comments I have read on Mgoblog - usually a pretty educated group on football.

So wait, only people who knew we would have a nail-biter against NW know about college football? And so the professional gamblers who set the line at -11, which was then pushed by (mostly) other professional gamblers to -14.5, are all idiots too? I assume you’re somewhere on record saying we’d be losing the game until late in the 4th quarter, right Jimmy the Greek??

Mike Damone,

first, NU’s Stadium is nice - not a shit box. It’s just small.

Secondly, I think a lot of people experienced recency bias when NU was supposed to play M tough in 2015 and it ended up 38-0.

Perhaps 38-0 to 20-17 is the difference between home and away for NU in conference games but I don’t think it’s ignorance of college football to suggest something unexpected was happening to go from beating a 10 win NU team 38-0 to beating this version of NU 20-17.

B1G Winning - Going to say it now, I will say it 2 years from now, and I will say it 20 years from now - NEVER BET AGAINST NORTHWESTERN IN EVANSTON IN A BIG 10 GAME, AND NEVER EXPECT A BLOWOUT.

It is stupid to think we crush them there.  Ever.  It was as if some of the MGoBlog folks had gone insane, and hadn't watched Michigan or Big Ten football for the last 20 years.

You get into Evanston and their little shitbox stadium, get the win by any score whatsoever, anyway possible, and get on 94E back to Ann Arbor quickly, being thankful for the win.  EVERY time you play there.

Anyone who thinks differently than this holds little credibility with me on their knowledge of Michigan and Big Ten college football.  Period.

Go Blue!

Why would I bet against Michigan when I want them to win.

Does this work for you, from Wed, 9/24:

Your brilliant quote on 9/24:  "Northwestern lost to Duke and a MAC team at home already this year, and the crowd will make this basically a neutral field game. Like someone says vis-a-vis S&P+ below, going just on the numbers, UM should win this game going away pretty easily."

Huh...

He wasn't wrong in saying any of that stuff though. They did lose to Arkon and Duke. They also lost their #1 back. It was a neutral site game at best for NW... None of that was wrong, but that's why we play the game. NW came out and hit a couple big plays on us. NW is not good though. Besides the aforementioned losses to medicore teams, they blew a 17-0 lead at home to a team that had never come back from a -17 hole under coach Harbaugh.  After the 1st quarter, that was a 20-0 game, and should have been more with out some specious calls to keep NW in it.

Read the same post - on 9/24, in response to those who said we will win handily, I said, quote:

"I have been in that high school stadium in Evanston too many times to make such statements.  It is on the road at Northwestern.  Play well, win the game by any margin, and get your ass back onto 94 heading east after the game as quick as you can."

Sounds like the game I watched.

I am out on this topic.

Hope you are right and we kick the living shit out of Maryland.  I think 17.5 spread is a coin flip.  GO BLUE!!!

Nah, just admit it, you didn't know anything either, you were just being a pessimist. And since Michigan is one of the worst teams ATS in the country over a long timeline, that means you have a better than 50-50 shot of being right. But now you want us all to praise your immense football knowledge after the fact because you said "win by any margin and get back on 94" like it was some kind of great insight. But hey man, whatever makes you feel good about yourself on a Monday morning...

Purdue beat Nebraska in Lincoln and looked pretty good so Northwestern may be a far better assessment. Nebraska came out and might have gotten a score if it weren't for that tip INT and then it was literally down hill from there. Northwestern came out and made a huge emotional surge but the damage was limited to one quarter and only 17 points and the Wolverines showed their mettle by getting one back in the 2nd quarter and then doing their usual boa constriction imitation thereafter.
