Super OT: Football Fan Violence Caught on Tape
This is super OT, but it's too good not to share. A fight broke out in the stands at the Vikings-Rams game. I'll let you watch for yourselves (and can someone smarter than me imbed (or embed?) the video?), but the punchline is that the guy with high ground who throws the first punch and looks like he's winning the fight gets thrown like a chihuahua down 5 rows of bleachers...

On a more serious note (or question maybe?), what is it about NFL football that makes 30-60 year old white guys think they're tough and want to fight?

The answer to your last question is, quite likely, alcohol.
September 28th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
Copious amounts of bud light, definately tough guy juice.
September 28th, 2018 at 6:32 PM ^
IDK about that. I think some people just enjoy fighting, which is why they enjoy sports. That symbolism of tribal combat just brings it out in people that are already looking for a little physical excitement in their lives.
Though, alcohol is probably what allows it to bubble to the surface, I generally think it's probably there under the surface already.
Also, we got NOTHING on soccer fans. Football Hooligans literally have gangs that run around and beat the piss out of each other every match day.

Usually I only attend Michigan games, but had an opportunity to attend a non-Lions NFL game last season and it was a circus up in the 300s. People got drunker and drunker. Seemed like by the time the 3rd and 4th quarter was around, there were a steady stream of people being thrown out by security in the upper deck. A few people came close to fistfights too (some from the same fanbase too). I appreciate that Michigan is a dry stadium
September 28th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
There are plenty of people who get wasted before entering college football stadiums. I think it might have to do with college fans having a higher percentage of college graduates with a higher socioeconomic status
September 28th, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
But once inside, they don't continue to drink at the Big House. This is the difference and allows people to sober up instead of continuing to hammer down.
September 29th, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
Yeah, alcohol NEVER gets snuck inside...never went to a game we didn't have someone bring liquor in for us.
September 28th, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
I think that plays into it, but I do think that the fact that people (generally) are not continuing to drink keeps thinks somewhat in control. When people can just drink and drink and drink through the game, it naturally gets rowdier

Growing up in Los Angeles and my family having had Raiders Season tickets...most people fighting at Raiders and Dodgers games in LA are not 30-60 year old white guys.
Not sure why this is getting a downvote. Have you ever been to a Raiders game?
September 28th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
I think alcohol is what makes them want to fight. When that happy feeling wears off and belligerence creeps in, the game starts to get personal. Then you're tense the whole time and there's nothing you can do about what's happening on the field, so you look down at the smug asshole in front of you whose cheers for [whatever NFL team seems most like sparty] seem directed at YOU more than at the game, so you decide that maybe there is something you can do after all! Who is he to be cheering like that? I hate that guy! Whammo! Next thing you're five rows down.
September 28th, 2018 at 4:37 PM ^
Seems like a personality and education thing.
1. An adult who wastes money to get wasted at a pro game is a moron. Why can’t one enjoy the game without having to make their brain loss a sense of itself?
2. If one gets so mad they want to punch someone, so he uses alcohol as the lubricant to unleash his anger, he has larger problems in life. Who risks a good job and reputation on Zach Smithing it?
September 28th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
In answer to your last question, I'm guessing beer consumption.
The dude who took the 3-4 punches and then tossed the dude is a definite beast. He probably hurt like hell the next day (at least his face had to), but holy shit, that dude has some major balls. I would not want to cross him in a dark alley.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
I wonder what the guy who got tossed was thinking?
"Hey, this is going great! I am landing punches at will here, and I am going to win this....HOLY SHIT, I'm flying through the air. Fuck, I'm about to land on the hardest plastic seat on Earth. Yep, there it is, my C4 and C5 vertebrae just got crushed. Fuuuuucccckkkkk..."
September 28th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
I don't see it that the tosser was a beast. The guy that got tossed was leaning in a little and the tosser had gravity on his side. The tosser just helped tossee "lean" a little more and Newton's law of universal gravitation took over.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
I don't like your argumentative tone, you are lucky we are not in a NFL stadium right now.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
If they were in prison, the tosser would make the tossee “toss his salad”...
September 28th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
True but would he use syrup or jelly? Or likely ranch.
September 28th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
"What? I thought this was America! Isn't this America? Can't stand up for myself?"
September 28th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
"What? I thought this was America! Isn't this America? Can't stand up for myself?"
Damn, didn't see it posted a few spots down, lol
September 28th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
Let's see YOU take 4 straight punches to the face and throw a 160 lb man through the air, even with gravity assist.
SMH
September 28th, 2018 at 2:47 PM ^
Well, honestly, they were glancing blows. He should learn uppercuts. Very effective in that circumstance
September 28th, 2018 at 3:04 PM ^
Actually from his position, I'd use the overhead elbow.
September 28th, 2018 at 3:16 PM ^
Hey, I am a lover not a fighter....
All I said was that the guy wasn't a beast. He grabbed the guy punching him and pulled him forward. There was no need to lift him, just get him moving downhill.
And no, I would not have been able to absorb 4 punches, glancing or not...Maybe 30-40 years ago but not now. I pride myself now in not getting myself into those situations.
September 28th, 2018 at 4:49 PM ^
After watching a couple times, it looks like the tossee might have helped the tosser by knowing he was going to get tossed and half jumped in the process..
September 28th, 2018 at 5:39 PM ^
Yeah, if that guy doesn't have at least a few offers as a bouncer/security type, someone is missing out.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
Generally it’s alcohol mixed with angry middle-aged men that conflate their own personal identities with the honor of a sports team that doesn’t know they exist.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
Someday most of them will realize how silly it was to get arrested on behalf of defending a billion dollar franchise. Like throwing down over a McDonald’s vs Wendy’s argument.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Exactly, I mean Wendy's clearly has the better Twitter account and non-frozen burgers how could anyone argue for McFrozen's.

Identifying with franchises distracts from the real enemy, which is capitalism in its latest incarnation. Institutionalized football is the opiate of the masses. (One opiate anyway)
September 28th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
Obligatory "I'm sorry! I thought this was America!"
September 28th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
To alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
Once watched a civil conversation about who was better Anthrax or Pantera slowly develop into an all out bar brawl as more and more alcohol was consumed.
It was one of the more entertaining things I have seen in a long time.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
Toilet paper over/under debate has surely led to fisticuffs as well.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
Over, and I am absolutely ready to fight over it.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
I stand with you comrade (except in rare instances involving cats and toddlers where I can at least here arguments without assuming the adversary is insane).
September 28th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
i thought this was settled. the original patent application shows a diagram and it is definitely over not under.
September 28th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
I'm sure because if you are an under you are a crazy person.
September 28th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
It wipes the same no matter how it comes off the roll ..... I have literally never purposefully put it on the roll in a particular orientation. I’m beginning to think this makes me an oddball
September 28th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
I never once thought about it until I lived with a girl who had a serious opinion on the matter.
September 28th, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
Well what was her opinion? Don’t keep us in suspense.

Reminds me of a bachelor party I went to and one member of our party fought two guys of another bachelor party about which bank they worked at regarding how Chase was better then PNC and vice versa. Seriously.

Pantera or you get a knuckle sandwich
September 28th, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
I remember going to a Lions/Raiders game in 1990 when I was 15 years old and seeing over 10 fights break out in the stands. Almost 30 years later I still remember to this day. These clowns are setting a horrible, horrible example for the kids and the NFL. They should be more worried about this behavior than kneeling during the National Anthem.
September 28th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
Don't worry about the children as most people don't bring kids to games anymore because it is too expensive.
