UM-Nebraska Massacre Recap - Corn Nation

Submitted by Mike Damone on

Posting this to share with others.  Unlike the pathetic opinions and horrible writing/spelling on the Red Cedar Message Board, this quarter by quarter recap of the game from a Cornuskers fan and writer is actually very well written, entertaining and hilarious.  Which I wouldn't have expected from "Corn Nation" - sounds like something out of the movie Deliverance...

Hope you enjoy as much as I did:

ONE: The Big House Is Just That...It’s Big (and not very loud)

That hasn't really been true since the suites were put it.

TWO: Adrian Martinez Should Be Ready to Go and Michigan Hasn’t Seen a Quarterback Like Him

Um, Michigan played Wimbush and we face some of the best dual threat QBs regularly

THREE: The Nebraska Front Seven Is Dominant

Lol

FOUR: Nebraska Is Having Success Running The Ball

30 for 39 yards

FIVE: Nebraska Is 0-2 Because Of A Storm And Self-inflicted Mistakes

And those mistakes kept happening.

Why do people still insist our stadium is not loud the fans were rocking up until we took a 5 td! When games are close the stadium is louder than any other. But when we’re up big why the fuck would we be loud? I’ve seen games at every major school where u could hear a pin drop. LSU is supposed to be one of the loudest but last night against la tech it was a library.

Ah. Yes. We've been through this ourselves. RichRod's first season was, well...um...rough on the ol' liver. Of course, we never had our "redemption" with RichRod; conversely, I DO think that Scott Frost will have success there and turn that program into something quite good, over time.

Of note, the next time we play Nebraska won't be until 2021, in Lincoln -- and then we have them on our schedule four years in a row after that.

Maybe a feeling of karma?  For years and years and years, Nebraska joyously ran up the score on every opponent they could.  It happened a lot.  I'm sure they enjoyed those games.  Now they know what the other side feels like.

Although we technically didn't run the score up.  McCaffery would have come in much sooner if Peoples-Jones hadn't returned that punt to the house.

Anybody else hear Scotty Frost say that he “honestly believes this is rock bottom?”

Man, for Nebraska’s sake I sure hope he is right. Rewatching this last game is just so satisfying.

Thanks for the link.  That is hilarious!  We know EXACTLY how this guy feels... been there!

That said, over the last many years, I have lost any feelings of mercy.  Michigan should just go out and keep playing their game, regardless of the score.

The comments read like MGoBlog in year 1 of Rich Rod.  I feel their pain.  Our cupboard was bare but we still had some decent talent for RR.  Frost has 38 true freshmen and 12 transfers out of 85.  That is rough.  Still, they were a much better test than WMU or SMU.  Their mobile QB was nearly fully operational and we planted him in the ground like a tree several times.

It's uncanny how the fan comments are the same from one bad team to the next.  The previous coach always ran a "country club" and left the "cupboard bare," while the new strength and conditioning coach (who may or may not wrestle wild animals) is instilling a "new attitude."  You can't see evidence of this attitude yet, but that's because "half the team never lifted a dumbbell before this year" so the team is at a physical disadvantage.  Though fans need to keep the faith, "staff changes need to be forthcoming" or else [head coach] is "too stubborn for his own good."

I was reading this while waiting in line for a new phone outside my local Apple store and kept laughing. People must have thought I was nuts.

Back when Nebraska was in the same conference as Mizzou, people here hated them. But, so long as we keep beating them, it's hard to dislike them. (I'm thinking of you, Rutgers.)
