That was impressive. I’m not going to lie, I was very worried about this game. I thought with Martinez going they would stay close or even beat us if we played sloppy. That was total domination. If not for the refs it would have been an even bigger blowout. That was exactly what I needed to see from the team. I love it. Go Blue!!!

Loved all 60 minutes of this game and the coaches’ press conferences after the game. Scott Frost looked like he was about to go cry home to mommy. Seriously looked like Michigan broke him, which to be fair we had him over our knee the entire game.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:18 AM ^
The announcers kept givin him an out...saying that Frost has said it might get worse before it gets better. There’s no mitigation to that..., they suck. Hats off to our staff. Good use of personnel and strengths today.

FIRE THEM ALL, UTTERLY PREDICTABLE SAME OL BULLSH...

GO BLUE, WE'RE GONNA WIN A NATTY BOYS
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Ix-nay on the atty-nay. It's in the same veins as calling touchdowns "tuddies".
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
This -- thx
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:20 PM ^
Can you believe Ben Mason had 3 tuddies? He's a bad, bad dude
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
I'd like to see the expression on his face if a reporter asked him about his tuddies.
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:21 PM ^
A boyish smile and a twinkle in his mohawk
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:38 PM ^
Exactly, except that the annoying contraction of touchdown is spelled and pronounced "teedee" not "tuddy." Sometimes you will even see "touchdown" abbreviated to "TD." It's one word, dammit, it can't have a two-letter acronym!
Did I do that right?
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
This really isn't coaching, but don't let this 56-10 score take away from the fact that John O'Neill is a terrible referee and should be banned from officiating any game above an Arena league practice.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
What makes you say this? I thought he did ok.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
He has so much history of stupidity that being competent, at best, should not be considered some monumental improvement.
Also, he called targeting on Hudson but missed virtually the same one on (I think) Perry. He also missed just a blatant hold on Winovich toward the end of the game when Nebraska was backed deep into their own endzone and probably would have been hit with a safety. It was so bad, even the announcers were cracking up about it.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
Yup--the OL had Hutchinson in a reverse bear hug.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
There was also the PI... can't remember precisely, was it Nico? Whoever it was, he got punched in the face and there was no call.
Edit: Meant to also say that yeah that hold no-call was absurd. We need professional refs.
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
And they damn near didn't call the friggin' facemask on our returner! Bad officiating is just bad.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^
Yep, everyone in the house saw that facemask on Bell, but no flags flew. They would have left it uncalled if they hadn't put the replay up on the big screen over and over. Shaming those guys was the only way.
September 22nd, 2018 at 9:15 PM ^
It was the no-call for the hit on Collins that stood out for me.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
Yep. Even the PbP announcers on TV were sorta chuckling about the blown holding call against Hutch. They felt the refs just didn't want to extend the misery. Doesn't negate the blown call, they just confirmed it was obviously a blown call, and were at a loss to explain it.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^
There were at least 3 hits I thought were the same or worse than Hudson's targeting last week. Not that they were the crew last week, but yeah.
September 22nd, 2018 at 6:32 PM ^
Also targeting when McCaffrey lowered the shoulders on a run.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
I could rant about the missed calls (holding, PI, targeting, BLANTANT face mask they didn’t call until 2009 Jimmy came back)
But first and foremost it’s the unequal application of the rules.
Hudson gets a targeting but they don’t call equal or worse ones as the prime example.
O’Neill and his crew should be doing JV 9 man football.
I am at a loss with understanding how Manuel doesn’t demand something be done with this clown.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
We kept our defensive starters in this game way too long, Hudson included. I know he sat out the first half, but he should not have been in the game at that point. Now he's out first half at Northwestern. Same thing with Paye. I don't know if he's badly hurt, but your 3rd best DE should not be on the field in the fourth quarter of a blowout. Devin freaking Bush was out there until the 4th quarter. He doesn't need reps. Get him off the field and let these young LBs get some playing time and some confidence. It's good for depth and its good for morale.
September 22nd, 2018 at 9:41 PM ^
Yeah the biggest problem with the refs is the lack of repercussions. If the NCAA cares about player safety why do they continue to let terrible refs get away with letting shit go, ie facemasks and head hunting by teams down a bunch. Force these refs to go back to division 2 until they improve.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:02 AM ^
I don’t think the safety was a safety either. In a close game I would’ve bet the call get overturned and the ball is placed on the half-yard line.
September 23rd, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
Yeah, it looked like the ball left his fingertips outside of the end zone but there were no cameras down the goal line to prove it. Then after review I believe they said the call was confirmed? If so, yet another ref mistake. But I'll take the safety!
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:53 PM ^
Moleskyn,
were you in the stadium today? Besides the questionable officiating he couldn’t talk to the crowd. Called penalties on the kicking team and the offense that were, respectively on the receiving team and the defense. Then there was the whole face mask debacle.
September 22nd, 2018 at 8:05 PM ^
I was not there, but watched the game on TV. I ageee with everyone above about the missed calls. I was yelling at the TV like a maniac. I just don't understand the singling out of O'Neill. I don't have anything for or against him, but you can't expect one person to see every call. Missed calls happen.
I don't know. Not trying to defend the guy, I guess I just don't get how you can pin every missed call on him.
September 22nd, 2018 at 8:11 PM ^
I just always thought he was mentioned by name because he is the leader of the crew. “The O’Neill crew” usually means Michigan is gonna have a bad time with the officials.
September 22nd, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
I know Michigan State fans don't like the O'Neil Crew either. We can't all be imagining it.
I have to say this is the first blow-out win where I've still been unhappy with the officiating...
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
I must take issue with your passive denigration of Arena League practices.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
The NCAAF referees are an embarrassment to sports everywhere, and Johnny boy is the worst of them all. How many calls did they miss today? How many times did they mess up a call? How many phantom calls? It's sickening.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:22 PM ^
That was oneil? Oh no wonder I'm so pissed off. Absolutely atrocious.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:39 PM ^
Absolutely. I cringe whenever I see that a-hole doing a Michigan game. Why the Big Ten continues to employ him completely baffles me.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Hopefully we burned him for this year and he doesn't show up @ MSU , or PSU
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
He'll be in Columbus.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
I wouldn't let O'Neill ref a Pre-K girl's flag football game.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
The team was the more prepared in this one. Coaching was great.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:08 PM ^
But were they outhit? That’s all that really matters. I have a feeling Scott won’t be saying they outhit UM today.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
Fuck John O'Neill
September 22nd, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
But only with what you’re packing in that speedo. I’m not going anywhere near that figurative asshole.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
There were some plays on which M did not score TDs. Need to clean that up.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
But those punts!
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
This does not relate to coaching.
Google Image searches of Holly Saunders in the state of Michigan have increased by 100,000,000% .
Also, good coaching.
