Nebraska Preparing Like Rocky IV

Submitted by CincyBlue on

Nebraska is treating this game like "Rocky IV," running backs coach Ryan Held said.

"Nobody thinks we can win this game," Held said. "National people don't think we can win this game. We have to be able to rally, come together as a group, go on the road, get on that airplane like Rocky Balboa did and frickin' beat Ivan Drago."

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez went through the entire practice Wednesday in full pads and participated in every drill, quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco said.

I hope Martinez does play.  Nebraska needs to be at full strength so Frost can see exactly how far away his team really is.  They don't have the athletes, across the field, to match Michigan and make a credible run for it.  It'll be a closer game than was either WMU or SMU, but should still be a comfortable win.

Considering the fact that Nebraska profited mightily from better living through chemistry in the Osborne era, they're a much closer match to test-tube man-meat Drago than the clean-living Rocky Balboa.

Why doesn't anybody talk about this more?

I watched Nebraska since the '70's.  It didn't take a PhD to see what their vaunted "strength program" was about.

That they are not as good as they once were is not the mystery people make it out to be.  It's kinda simple actually.

They will never revert to their previous dominance unless they turn the clock back on, um, old habits.
