OT: NCAA comes down hard on Kentucky
Kentucky men's and women's soccer made the unpardonable decision to play an informal scrimmage together against members of the Foo Fighters when the band played Rupp this past May. As a result "three current men's players, one current women's player and one former men's player, several players will have to sit out two supervised team activities."
Take that you criminals! In other news Michigan State and Ohio State, among many many others, are still laughing at the NCAA's completely ass-backwards punishments.

Damn. That sure puts a monkey wrench in things.

Bravo!

Just one more indecent accident on the part of Kentucky athletics

I forEverlong treat you as My Hero, as you made Something from (a) Nothing story.

I don't think the penalty is harsh enough. Instead, those that participated should be forced to go to a Foo Fighters concert.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:04 PM ^
Forced?
One of the top bands out there and a great time live.
September 7th, 2018 at 5:50 PM ^
Is it just me or does the drummer from the foo fighters look like one of the dudes from nirvana
September 7th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
The Foo Fighters play actual instruments as well as perform full songs while playing long shows. Sounds terrible. Maybe you should stick to Beyoncé.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
I didn't know hating the foo fighters was a real thing. Thought it was lore.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
Of all the artists you could have picked as the antithesis of “real music” (whatever the fuck that means) Beyonce is an odd choice.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
No. No it's not.
September 7th, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
let's differentiate between the music and the concert. beyonce concerts are a lip-synced dance production, not a show of musical talent.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
Better yet, if the NCAA was serious and REALLY wanted to set an example.....Nickleback.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
Bouncing around like a beach ball at a nickelback concert.
September 7th, 2018 at 5:25 PM ^
i assume faced with that punishment, they'd prefer to just give up their eligibility
September 7th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
Saw them at Wrigley Field this Summer and they kicked ass. Dave Grohl is a madman and the group around him is talented as well. Played for just short of 3 hours.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Meh. Nirvana was better.

September 7th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
Meh. Benny Goodman was better.

Kurt Cobain couldn't carry Dave Grohl's jock strap (if Courtney hadn't murdered him).

Listened in a bit from my deck - sounded solid
September 7th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
Your post is bad, and you should feel bad.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
To play devil's advocate ---- regulating and enforcing the amount of organized practices/scrimmages a collegiate team is one of the CORE functions of the NCAA.
Kentucky soccer broke those rules, and thus they are being punished.
Fairly simple case.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:10 PM ^
Get out of here with your reason and rationality.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
You mean to limit the amount of practices so players aren't overworked or so they don't gain a competitive advantage? Because neither seems to apply here. Is there another reason such rules exist?
September 7th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
Both. Taking the (likely) position that this was an accident -- it's Kentucky soccer, after all -- it would still make it possible for less accidental things to happen in the future. Alabama would have a rock band come to Tuscaloosa every day during the no-contact period so that they could "accidentally" supervise their football players during an "impromptu" scrimmage.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
Yes. The NCAA is mostly worried that Jim Harbaugh is going to start doing satellite "concerts" around the south next summer.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
Sure, and in the event that happened then by all means drop the hammer. But it was clearly an accident and it's just like the NCAA to blow out of proportion a small mistake while ignoring massive issues in front of them because that would cut into the billion dollars they clear a year.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
Exactly. 4 people should not be allowed to play pickup soccer whenever they feel like, especially against a random collection of amateurs. This would have given Kentucky a huge advantage as other athletes across the country would not be able to find 4 amateurs to play against 1 time during the off season.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
The devil hardly needs an advocate. In any case, this is really far more about the silliness of the NCAA's bureaucracy in that this nothing event required an actual penalty, as minor as it actual is. If the NCAA were truly serious about said "core" function, it would've long cracked down on the farce that is the 20-h limit on team activities.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
We are well aware of the remorseless wrath a program would be faced with for practicing and stretching malpractice in the eyes of the National Complicit Athletic Association.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:09 PM ^
I wonder what the colour and the shape of the ball were.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
Yeah, too bad there's no Kentucky version of the freep to investigate this skullduggery and come up with more chicanery comitted by the coaches and players. I wonder if their soccer coaches are from a "holler" down yonder? Although, this did happen in Kentucky so I'm guessing most involved are from a holler. Maybe the coaches are yankees and that's what prompted the school to turn themselves in, in an effort to bring back "southern spread soccer" over "yankee 3 kicks and a cloud of dust soccer".
September 7th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
The NCAA: rules to make sure as little fun as possible is had with the little things - no power to do anything about the big things
September 7th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
One of these days, the NCAA will stop being a pretender and actually punish rulebreakers. In the meantime, it will take the best of you to remain patient.
I'll see myself out...
September 7th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
You're leaving? Well there goes my Hero.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
That's a stretch but I'll allow it.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:29 PM ^
Your summary is misleading. The reason it was a problem is because coaches were involved. If it had just been players there wouldn't have been any violations.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
A bit. Just wanted to point out the farce of "protecting athletes" and the whole sanctity of the "amateurism" while letting certain programs do whatever the F they want.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
That's fair
September 7th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
I assume those team activities can include practice. If not, what a crock!?!
September 7th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Was there cream cheese on the soccer ball?
September 7th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
You and your kinkiness. It never ends, does it?
September 7th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
Don't judge me.

September 7th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
"several players will have to sit out two supervised team activities" Hmm, does that mean they can fulfill the penalty by sitting out two practices?
September 7th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
You really had me for a minute there! Phew. I can unpack the suitcase!
Have a great weekend everyone,
Coach Cal
September 7th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
You said hard on
September 7th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Does the NCAA even know Kentucky basketball exists? They punish their soccer team for liking Foo Fighters, but their basketball team gets paid more than the Foo Fighters???
September 7th, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
Listening to the Foo Fighters should've been punishment enough.
