Who stays and who goes early?

Submitted by TK on

Yes I know much can change by the end of the season, and it’s only opinion at this point, but I’d like to hear thoughts on which underclassmen we may lose after this season. My thoughts:

Patterson- Likely gone. The rumor has been that he is a one and done and has been in some first round mocks. However, I guess maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see first round talent yet. We will see.

Bredeson- Thinking he would stay. Gosh I hope at least.

Gary- gone.

Bush- Likely gone. Probably a first or second round  pick.

Hudson- No idea. Not really sure how the NFL views him a prospect. A return by him would be huge.

Long and Hill- Both guys are probably in the same boat. Leaning towards both will go and be top 3 round picks. Would be great if one returned.

Well...we shall see if Chase Winovich regrets his decision. Hopefully our offense rights the ship on the shit show it has become.

If im a defensive player I’m pretty disappointed in the progress made. To say that you’re coming back to win a championship and watch that debacle on the Oline with no quick fix in sight had to piss some of the D guys off. It’s all on them again ....

Also, is Shea Patterson really good enough to go pro after this year?  Can he showcase himself with our current situation?  He may have the it factor but it’s hard to hide the fact that he is small in stature...something pro scouts will undoubtedly be critical of.

"Reload?"  Michigan is one more season away from the "reload and develop" phase.   Sometimes it seems like a lot of people don't remember just how much of a clusterfuck the program was under David Brandon.  A full five year rebuild was necessary.  This is only the beginning of year four.

At this point, I agree with Brian.  The OT position is still toast.  And it is one of the most important positions on the team.  I am hoping it is at least tolerable by next year. The ND game may have sucked, but they really aren't that far away and ND could turn out to be a playoff team this year.

If ND does make the playoffs, a seven point loss in the first game isn't going to look all that bad in retrospect.

You said the exact same thing about Rich Rod, save it. Nobody expected us to be where we are in year 4 under Harbaugh. Nobody. To say "a full five year rebuild was necessary" is just you making yourself sound like the smartest guy in the room. If things were so bad how did we go 10-3 and 10-3 the first two years? Is it too much to ask to build on that success by year 4?

The OL will be fixed around week 4, I hope... I'd like to see Owenu sit, who seems only to half-ass it, being that fat, and he cant pull, for Spanellis or Filiaga... and I'd like to see Mayfield and Hudson see live bullets these few games and take over.  Wishful thinking.. but my gosh, Harbaugh dropped the ball, despite people screaming here about the tackles the past three years...not even getting a grad transfer was a surprise....

Physically Patterson looks ready, but I think it depends on how well he shows he can pick up a new system.  Just needs to look like Rudock did by the end of his year.

It's not a popular thing to say but I agree with you. I think DMac could have turned in the stats that Patterson did last weekend... What was the point in shitting on the guys who actually signed up for you coming out of HS in favor of a mediocre sec QB who only wanted to cut bait from ole Miss after freeze got caught? It doesn't send a good message to the locker room or potential future recruits. Not a wise move by Harbaugh, imo.

Gary is gone after this season. Nothing will change that. Even if he doesn’t have a dominant season, he’ll still be drafted in or near the top-10 based solely on his potential.

Bush isn’t a certainty to leave, but I wouldn’t bet on him coming back. No idea about Long, Hill or Hudson. Depends on the seasons they have.

I've heard the chatter about Patterson making this a one and done year as well. If he has a good year he should go. I wouldn’t blame him for not wanting to stand behind this OL for longer than he has to. And this year’s QB class is very weak compared to how it was last year. He could work his way into the first round without having a first round caliber year.
