What is wrong with this entire program?

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

We have been laying eggs for literally decades in big games. MSU gets better results than us with lower rated recruits. So does Wisconsin.

I'm on a small vacation right now, and I wonder why I've wasted the last few hours watching this. I used to be the biggest Michigan fan anyone knew as a kid, but I'm now 24 as of 3 days ago, and I haven't seen us do shit since I was 10. Even that year we lost to a 6-4 OSU and Notre Dame coached by Charlie Weis.

I've been texting back and forth with my uncle who has had season tickets since the 70s, he says this is the last year for tickets and I don't really blame him. This stuff is too predictable and I don't get that many free Saturday's anymore with my job.

We hired the hottest coach in football in 2014...Why is it no matter who coaches here they can't get results? I just don't get it. Nobody on our team has looked hyped to play, just like MSU last year. Is it mentality? They expect to just waltz in and win without preparing?

Culture of the program is that it's "okay" to lose.

Go tell that to Bama or OSU.  It's national news when they drop a game.

I have been telling people for years the program is cursed and no one will listen. Glad I finally gave up my season tickets.

A road game. Against a top 15 team. At night. I'm honestly shocked anyone thought Michigan would win. Harbaugh will actually be gone in a year or two. It's a basketball school now.

Arrogance. People shit on MSU on this board all the time, but look at them. They walk around with a huge chip on their shoulder 24/7 and it takes next to nothing to get them even more pissed off. Like them, hate them, hate me, but you can’t argue that they are not soft, especially comes to rivalry and big games. Michigan caves at the sight of any big game and in my opinion it’s been perpetrated by the former coach walking around saying “this is Michigan blah blah blah” and the current coach, who took over a program that’s won nothing recently (and nothing himself at the collegiate level) telling everyone “who’s got it better than us!” Well Jim, everyone does right now and you like a higher paid version of Hoke with a bigger mouth.

This right here. Plus it's bad enough people trying to sugar coat everything to make it seem like Michigan had a chance in that game. When Michigan gives up the "We're Michigan fergodsakes" and accepts they're a middle of the pack big ten team for the better part of 3 decades, they would hopefully play better when something doesn't go their way.

It doesn't help that ND played really well offensively to start the game.  Since those first two drives, Michigan has been pretty solid on defense save for a couple of mistakes.  But the offensive line still can't block on the pass to save their lives and for whatever reason Michigan doesn't have a viable way to compensate for it.

The only saving grace I see is that they'll have a couple of weeks to hammer away at the edges and see if they can piece together something offensively.

One TD was extended because of the roughing the passer call on Winovich.

One TD was honestly a prayer throw (not that you shouldn't do those from time to time).

Obviously second-order effects apply, but the defense really wasn't the problem.

The problem with a blitz heavy defense is it leaves you exposed and gassed.

It's like swinging for the fences every time. I've got to believe Don Brown is aware of this, and I guess it's better to get exposed earlier rather than later in the season.

I would like to see the defensive statistics when controlling for the lower-tier teams.

Also the cramps stuff is completely inexcusable, it was 80-ish degrees and 77% humidity, that's hot and humid of course, but a) it's not that hot, and b) it's 2018, the hydration and deyhdration rates are well-established and the conditioning and performance coaches should be way more on top of that.

We aren’t good. No fundamentals. No discipline. No fire. No passion. No unity. Jim might make it one more year but he’s done here and both parties will be happy about it.

Could be for the best. The sentiment around OSU fan sites seems to be "hope harbs stays there for 20 years". You know when those assholes are rooting for something, it's not good for us.

I love Michigan, but I just can’t continue to let this program ruin my Saturdays.

I am going to watch, but walk away and go enjoy my day when I see the same shit over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

Offense looks better with Dylan at QB however.

I think a lot of the problem is hype.

After last years feast of offseason bullshit from the submarine (and the staff here) I vowed to never be sucked in again unless I saw results on the field.

Tonight, a scary thought occurred to me.

Maybe the bulllshit and hype don’t just affect the fans and media.

Maybe all the bullshit about the OL being fixed fools the OL players into thinking it’s fixed.

Maybe the bullshit is actually destructive on the field because players think they are better than they are.

BTW - Braylon Edwards is whining and calling out players again on Twitter, reminding us all that no matter how good you were on the football field, you can be a total asshole off it.

I really thought, despite being a pessimist, that this year was the year we would be in contention for the playoffs. Tonight was the first time I didn’t even watch the whole game.  That 7-5 prediction by Sharpe & Parker doesn’t look so.crazy now

Exactly with this. I think there’s a bevy of people in the AD from the old guard with Lloyd and before that need to go. Guys like Falk, Ablauf, etc.. People keep trying to live in the past at the expense of the future. They think that because we’re Michigan that we are inherently better than everyone else. I see that sentiment in this fan base quite a bit and it always makes me cringe. At this point who gives a shit about most wins of all time?

The arrogance leads to hype which is fed to us by our homer local media. The coaches tell them that everything is sunshine and daisies and the players eat that shit up. How many times did we have an article with quotes from the OL claiming they will be better? That is so fucking laughable.

I've said it a million times. MSU plays with the annoying chip on their shoulder mentality, but it works. We dont. We never do. We lean on yesteryear. There's always crazy hype followed by the same 8-4 Outback Bowl seasons. We have a culture problem. Michigan football died the day Bo died and Crable had the late hit in the game.  Harbaugh only emphasizes yesteryear. We chased out RichRod. We hired Hoke to get a michigan man and now harbaugh with the same culture that wont work. Idk how deep it goes, but Its getting tough to watch. At least we have basketball. The culture is focused on development, learning, improvement, with a consistent scheme and mentality.
