Wilton Speight named Starter

Submitted by mgoblue2104 on

UCLA just announced Wilton Speight will be the starter for their opener on Saturday.

It should be interesting to see how he looks in Chip Kelly’s offense this season.

Wow I did not see that coming at all. W Modstwr and Dorian Robinson. Robinson chose UCLA over teams like Michigan because of the depth chart. Funny how Speight was here and he chooses UCLA and Speight transfers and he’s behind him anyway. Very interesting

You can't coach overthrowing a wide open received by 20 yards.

You can coach read progressions, but can't actually do it for the kid.

Best of luck to Wilton, but his ceiling wasn't high enough to get Michigan to the promised land. At some crucial point in his time at UCLA, we will all be reminded of that.

It is not simply a matter of whether he got better coaching or is in a different conference.  There are many factors that could impact his performance.  The fact that he is a year older and this is his last year of eligibility are other very important factors.

I recently had a compression fracture (11 weeks ago) in my back and I wore a brace for 6 weeks.  Everything is healing great, just have another month of pt and I"ll be good to go.  I'm sure Speight's rehab was much different than mine, but my guess is that this injury probably kept Speight out for about 4 months ish...

Speight's last collegiate TD pass was against ..........

Saturday's opponent, the Cincinnati Bearcats.

I was at that game 355 days ago, and I'll be at the Rose Bowl Saturday too.  (go UC)
