RIP Michigan-Minnesota rivalry
Michigan will play Minnesota twice in the next 8 seasons, both in Minneapolis.
The earliest we could possibly play them at home again is 2026.
Series that has been played 103 times and went uninterrupted from 1919-1998. Two year hiatuses happened in 1999-2000, 2009-2010 and took a year off in 2016. 2 meetings in the next 8 seasons.
But hey, we get those Rutgers and Maryland games every year! Who needs tradition that goes before this wonderful league was even created when you have cable subscribers, a booming industry that has a bright future.

The B1G scheduling should get a bunch of blame, too.
Playing one crossover a billion times in a row (Wisconsin right now) instead of mixing it up creates these gaps as much as anything.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
Considering the schedule inequality of having different crossover games, those games should not be considered when determining the division champion.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
I think it's super cool that our multi-year crossover game will be against Nebraska once Frost gets them humming and we still have MSU/OSU on the road every other year. Just the bestest.
August 29th, 2018 at 6:10 PM ^
Don't fear the Frost.
August 29th, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
I don't fear him, but I think Nebraska will likely be formidable under him in a couple of years. When we're playing @MSU, @OSU, and Penn State every year, it's frustrating to have another tough B1G opponent on the schedule when someone like PSU gets to throttle Illinois for 5 years.
August 29th, 2018 at 9:25 PM ^
ACC has a similar dynamic with 14 teams so this happened to UNC and WF too. They ended up scheduling a "non-conference" home and home. I'd be down to do that. Better than playing SMU or BYU or whatever.
August 30th, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
But with only three crossovers and seven teams in the other division you're still going to play the other teams fewer than once every two years even with perfectly even "rotations".
Having to play both Rutgers and Maryland every year is a killer to the Michigan schedule.

sure takes care of the space issue
August 29th, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
Hate to say it, but it is nice to have a rivalry game and actually expect to win it every year!

Don't worry, we will have that again with Sparty soon.
I am calling my shot here - between 2018-2027, we will go minimum 8-2. As has been shown repeatedly over the past several months - they will fuck up anything good that they have going...
August 29th, 2018 at 6:10 PM ^
Give me a break dude, we didn't even win that much in the 90s. We lost to them in 1990, 1993, 1995, and 1999. And thats when we were good and they were still mostly considered a joke. In the 2000s lost in 2001, 2008, 2009, and 2010. People still think it's the 70s and 80s around here. How about we try winning two in a row for the first time since 2007 or beating them when they have a winning record before making ridiculous predictions.

This post smells like red cedar and chlamydia.
August 29th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
That's offensive - to chlamydia.
But yes - do agree there is a certain bad stench, including a waft of inferiority, emanating from that post...
August 29th, 2018 at 7:23 PM ^
I'm sick of seeing the same dumb predictions on here every year and laying an egg in that game for 10 years. It's nauseating.
August 30th, 2018 at 12:56 PM ^
Actually, I think it smells of basset hound and shame
August 29th, 2018 at 8:29 PM ^
Oh shut up. We were 31-9 from 1968-2007 against them. Dominant.
August 29th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
If you’re going to arbitrarily pick dates, then I will too. From 1996-2007 (the 12 years before the dark times), Michigan went 10-2. If you prefer to keep in to Ten year spans, in Carr’s last 10 years, Michigan went 8-2. Including the Rich Rod years in a post claiming objectivity as being part of the years Michigan was good is disingenuous at best. Also, the 90s Michigan teams weren’t exactly world beaters, except against John Cooper
August 30th, 2018 at 10:58 AM ^
Sorry, UMx, but when Michigan is 69-36-5 against a program and that program's success usually depends on whether Michigan is up or down, it is entirely reasonable to expect regression toward the mean, no matter how many stats are cherry-picked to include Michigan's eight year path of self-destruction.

I just... I only have a finite amount of rage to distribute. I can't get up in arms about not playing Minnesota most years.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Well luckily for you I have plenty of rage for the both of us. I am fucking livid about this. What the fuck are we paying Warde for?!?! Isn't he supposed to at least try to stop Delaney from fucking us?
Fuck the Big 10. We should go independent.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
let me guess chuck, you are between 20-25 years old. tradition and history seem to mean nothing anymore.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:56 PM ^
You obviously don’t get out much. Chuck Norris is a famous martial arts actor and Conservative activist. he is approximately 80 years old.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
Chuck Norris was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: Chuck Norris without end. Amen.

August 29th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
We should make a new big ten. With Michigan, MSU, osu, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, northwestern, Iowa, Wisconsin, penn state and Nebraska.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
How about eliminating Penn State and Nebraska and playing a full round robin every year and ditching the championship game?
August 29th, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
penn state, maryland and rutgers have no business being in the big ten. oh, i know why they are, but it has nothing to do with anything but the mighty dollar.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
Ditch PSU, Maryland, Rutgers, add ND. Great conference. Honestly, could ditch MSU and add Vandy or something. I'd be fine with that too. MSU is just such an embarrassment.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
With blackjack! And hookers! Come to think of it, forget the blackjack. Ah, screw the whole thing...
August 29th, 2018 at 7:28 PM ^
Fuck penn state. We should have unassed them when the Paterno/Sandusky scandal broke.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Thank you for posting those great pictures. This is sad. I do enjoy the jug game, and would trade Maryland or Rutgers for this game every time.

Angry child throws a fit
August 29th, 2018 at 10:43 PM ^
That's okay. Keep throwing that fit. We don't care.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
I don’t understand how we can play them twice in the next eight years, and both games are in Minnesota. How do you justify not having a home and home series?
August 29th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
They did that with a few other cross-division series too. IU/Nebraska, IU/Northwestern, OSU/Northwestern, MSU/Iowa.
I have no idea why the B1G did this - these 2022-2025 schedules are weird in a number of respects. But U-M/Purdue and U-M/Minnesota aren't complete outliers in terms of the "2 consecutive games in the same stadium."
August 29th, 2018 at 4:46 PM ^
They didn't fix the MSU/OSU issue on the schedule either. I feel let down by Warde Manuel.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:52 PM ^
It's going to be hard to put that toothpaste back in the tube because it would require us either playing MSU (again) or OSU on the road twice in a row, or one of them agreeing to play us in Ann Arbor two years in a row.
Thanks again, Dave Brandon.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^
I'd rather us bite the bullet than be stuck with this problem for years. I'll be in my 30s by 2026 and this shit is still gonna be going on.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:02 PM ^
I think you're right. By rights, MSU should play us twice straight in Ann Arbor after we played there in 2013-14. But they won't.
Seriously, why the hell would Brandon ever agree to that?
August 29th, 2018 at 5:28 PM ^
Brandon didn't "agree" to that. He can be criticized for a lot of things, but it's a myth that he could unilaterally decide how the Big Ten did its scheduling just by throwing his weight around.
Michigan is not Texas in the Big 12. That's what separates the Big Ten from the Big 12.
You know, this schedule issue happened to MSU too. They play Ohio State and their in-state rival on the road in the same season too. If we are being picked on, so are they.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
But no one cares what happened to State.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
All the more reason to fix it then. And MSU would not have a valid complaint to playing Michigan on the road consecutively since it received that benefit.
August 29th, 2018 at 11:26 PM ^
And by fix it...make it so Michigan plays PSU and OSU on the road every other year? Or fix it so Michigan plays MSU and PSU on the road every other year? No matter what, there will be two tough B1G East road games every year.
August 29th, 2018 at 9:02 PM ^
Brandon absolutely agreed to it because he didn't stop it. He didn't need to make any threats, all he had to do was ask them to change it and it would have been done. It makes ZERO sense to play those games both at home or away in a season, and I am convinced the league office would've changed it without a problem. But Brandon was a shitty AD, and he probably thought this fit well with his, "if it ain't broke, break it" moronic philosophy.
August 30th, 2018 at 10:10 AM ^
But you absolutely agreed to it also, so you can't complain. After all, you didn't stop it so, by your standards, you gave it your absolute agreement. After all, had you opposed it, I am convinced the league office would've changed it without a problem.
As long as we are basing arguments on shit we just make up as we type...
August 29th, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
YAY Maryland and Rutgers tho
August 29th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
The student bodies should create some kind of anger trophy to play for and create a competition for the years we don’t play.
