Badflower - "The Jester" and "Move Me"
Highly Suspect - "Vanity" and "Lydia", the entire Mister Asylum album is a masterpiece
Nothing but Thieves - "Particles" (piano version) and "If I get High"
August 21st, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
Big fan of Lydia, the music video is amazing.
I learned to play it a couple years ago, and it's a lot of fun - more complex than you'd expect.

Agree on all three, especially Highly Suspect. "Bloodfeather", "F.W.Y.T."

Got the chance to see highly suspect live in a small venue on Halloween before they blew up. They put on one hell of a show.

Purpose was a great album
Honestly. One of the best pop albums of the last decade to any objective person.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
If that’s the one with “what do you mean” and the “my momma don’t like you” song then I agree. That album is lit
August 21st, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
That album also had ,"is it too late now to say sorry?"
August 21st, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^

Greta Van Fleet!
How can you not dig these dudes from Frankemuth?!
August 21st, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
I don't like that they are completely piggy backing off another band's sound/success. They aren't original at all and it bothers me.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:15 PM ^
Go see them live. Half the crowd there has never even heard of Zeppelin and I bet a good portion of them are going to go get guitar lessons the day after the show. The other half of the crowd probably loves Zeppelin and loves what GVF are doing. I was very apprehensive going in but am completely sold. Those kids are amazingly good and fun. This isn't Kingdom Come either. This isn't Secret Machines. Hopefully this doesn't turn into the debacle that ended up being Wolfmother. This is the real deal and is definitely worth enjoying now. My favorite line about the band is that A&R guys ran out of bands to sign so Jason Flom built a time machine and started signing bands from the 70's. Go see them live and forgot about any preconceived notions you have about them.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
Why was Wolfmother a debacle? Way way better than GVF who by the way are one of the worst bands I’ve ever heard.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
Dude - seriously? Name a great Wolfmother song not on the first album. Andrew's ego got so big after the first album nobody around him was good enough anymore. He fired everybody and could never even get close to making the quality of songs they made on the first album. There was a decent track here and there since - but c'mon. GVF haven't even put out a full album yet. Give them a chance - go see them if you can. I'm actually a fan of both bands. It's good to see people making music with guitars - there's not enough of it.
August 21st, 2018 at 9:42 PM ^
Greta Van Fleet is one of the worst bands I’ve ever heard. No need for me to see them live just like I wouldn’t go see Nickelback.
Derivative
Unoriginal
Garbage.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
I assume you don't care much for Rap then? Greta Van Fleet is one of the best new bands out. They are fantastic!
August 21st, 2018 at 8:16 PM ^
All music is derivative - and that is not a bad thing
August 22nd, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
These guys sound awesome! Yes they sound like Zeppelin. When was the last time we heard a new Zeppelin song though? I'm glad they've picked up the torch. Looking forward to more good stuff from this crew!
August 21st, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
Because they suck?
August 21st, 2018 at 6:01 PM ^
Your begging the question.
Explain yourself otherwise your opinion doesn't hold much weight. It may not anyway but you can at least try to make sense of what you're implying.
August 21st, 2018 at 10:17 PM ^
So glad they got mentioned this quickly!
Guys, they sound like a lot of other things in addition to Zeppelin, and even if you insist on disagreeing with me, they HAVEN'T EVEN RELEASED A FULL ALBUM. Give them time to develop, they are so young.
Early Zeppelin was critically punished for being considered derivative to many blues artists, Robert Plant is aware of this and that is why he has given GVF his blessing.
Not to mention that the band has said countless times that they don't even listen to Led Zeppelin, but they listen to blues, folk, world, and much of the sound that influenced Led Zeppelin as well, so the result when you mix them together is gonna be a similar sound to Zeppelin.
Here is my favorite song by them, it's an unreleased track. Here is an acoustic performance of it though, the drummer can play some good guitar too!
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
They sound like a Zeppelin cover band at a JR High "talent" show.
In other words, they blow.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
Did you know that Paul McCartney was in a group BEFORE Wings??
/mindblown

user name checks out.
One of my first bosses always liked that joke. My response was who is "Wings?"

The Essex Green - new album "Hardly Electronic" plus "The Long Goodbye" and "Cannibal Sea". Khruangbin's "The Universe Smiles Upon You" is good, too.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
Love khruangbin.
August 21st, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
YES! Did you watch the KEXP performance from a few months back. I plastered that all over my socials. Some things are so good but you can't explain why - khruangbin is that!
August 21st, 2018 at 4:24 PM ^
I was disappointed with Young Thug's album (Slime Language). Only song I really got into was Tsunami. Beautiful Thugger Girls was soooo much better. Astroworld was fine, a few bangers but nothing like Rodeo. Obviously Drake's album "Scorpion" was great, but that was awhile ago.
Idk seems like a lull in new music right now, at least new music from genres that I typically go for.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
I was pretty disappointed in slime language too, his older stuff set the bar pretty high for me. There's a couple songs that have some replay value (Scoliosis too, in addition to what you had), but overall pretty meh
August 21st, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
Yeah, and I'm a huge Thugger fan, I just couldn't get into this one. I loved Beautiful Thugger Girls, one of the best mixtapes in a long time. Couldn't stop listening to that one for months.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
Scorpion was ass and Drake hasn't put out anything worth listening to since IYRTITL.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
This is a bad opinion. Scorpion goes toe to toe with Take Care for his best work.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:53 PM ^
Your mention of Take Care just reminded me of Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX's Were New Here album. Gonna listen to that right now.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:25 PM ^
Australian metalcore band Polaris. Up and coming band and should be the next big thing in the scene. If anyone is a metal fan, listen to their album The Mortal Coil. One of the most solid albums I’ve heard in a long time.

Old school Wu. GZA Liquid Swords, Raekwon Cuban Linx, Ghostface Ironman
August 21st, 2018 at 6:37 PM ^
Liquid swords may be the best Wu-related album.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
Lights covered Drake's entire side B of Scorpion. IMO, it was better than the original, but she was ordered to take it down from all streaming platforms.
For some reason started listening to Pennywise again. About Time might be my favorite, but Full Circle and Straight Ahead are both good albums.
I've posted here before in other music threads that in most cases I prefer female vocals. Right now my favorite might by XYLO.

Right now at this moment - Jimi Hendrix live Voodoo Child. Not sure from which concert. Maybe Monterey Pop.
August 21st, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
Excellent! I was going to say Supertramp Retrospectacle. Glad I'm not the only one looking back a few decades.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:32 PM ^
This is all gibberish to me. Now turn down that crazy noise and get off my damn lawn!

I just recently came across thievery corporation so I’ve been going through all there old albums. Newest album came out in April. Mac Miller’s new album is great. Gotta be in the right mood to listen to it.

Man, blast from the past. Was very into Versions, and whatever album had Babylon in the title many, many years ago.
