Ohio State investigation into Urban Meyer to be completed Sunday
August 17th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
4 game suspension at most.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:32 PM ^
Honestly, I think it’s a black and white case. He either is at fault and is fired for cause or he keeps his job with no suspension.
Makes no sense to suspend, that displays that be acted in the wrong.
August 18th, 2018 at 9:31 AM ^
Not necessarily, he might be found to have followed protocol regarding knowledge of the domestic violence (and thus keep his job), but be suspended for lying to the press, or releasing a statement without the athletic department's approval.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:32 PM ^
Yeah right. Nothing will happen. That fan base will celebrate their “win” over evil media and they will win 10 plus games+. All I care about is beating them. Michigan winning a game over them is the best punishment.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
Losing a football game isn't punishment for what happened there. Zach Smith going to jail, Urban Meyer and Gene Smith being fired (along with anyone else that turned a blind eye to this), and a long hard look at the Powell Police Dept would be a just punishment. Alas, none of this will actually happen.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:20 PM ^
None of what you’re saying will happen. That’s why I said the only punishment that is realistic for that program and fan base is losing to Michigan. They should have done the right thing years ago but football and winning was more important.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:32 PM ^
Lol. Just in time for the season opener. What a joke.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
Just want the farce to be over. Does anyone think it won't be?
August 17th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
Meyer will be back. And don’t think for a minute he isn’t doing his thing from the “sidelines” right now. Gosh I hate OSU. In my dreams I see that SOB two years ago (@ OSU) running up & down the sidelines exhorting the fan base while every ref was an OSU affiliate. Maddening. I’m praying we beat their hind ends come November.
August 18th, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
Better pray real hard. The Bucks offense will be 10 times better this year with a q.b. who can pass better on a consistant basis, throw in 2 good running backs and you have the making of a offensive machine.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
It’s interesting that a recruiting assistant left after 8 months citing “moral values and family influence”.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
Apparently theres at least one person in Columbus with a conscience.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:46 PM ^
Or did he perceive that the ship was going down and he jumped aboard a life boat? Of course, his perception might not be correct and maybe he abandoned prematurely...
August 17th, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
He could've done that without citing "moral and family values". I dont know how those comments could be considered anything other than a slight.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:07 PM ^
True. But he had to know Meyer's reputation before he took the job.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
#Me too should have been all over this, but social media movements are here today and gone tomorrow.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
But it’s not a sexual assault case.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:21 PM ^
Me Too started in 2006. It’s been around a long time. Mainstream culture didn’t catch up until a couple years ago though
August 17th, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
Urban will be reinstated on Sunday. OSU is trash. Water is also wet.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
"The investigation will be finished when it's finished...Sunday"
-President Drake
August 17th, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
So apparently President Drake isn't in charge... I had a 5 minute happy period thinking that they were doing an actual, thorough investigation. I don't know how we can take any investigation seriously that announces how long it will take ahead of time. Thorough investigations take the time they take.
If they didn't take time to turn over every stone, this could come back to haunt them. But then, I was shocked they hired him in the first place.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:39 PM ^
If they know when it's going to be over, I assume he's back. Seems like they're already done investigating and are just allowing an appropriate amount of time to pass to make it seem like they did their due diligence. If it lingered on, I'd be more convinced that there was an actual chance he might be gone.
August 17th, 2018 at 8:04 PM ^
I disagree with this interpretation. If they had already decided to keep him, they'd want to reinstate him as soon as possible so that he doesn't miss any more practice time. Waiting to announce the decision suggests they need time to work out the logistics of replacing him.
That said, it still seems highly unlikely that they will fire him. I give it about a 10% chance he's fired.
August 17th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
This is total guessing and speculation on my part, but here is my take ...
If they know when the results will be revealed, then they already have the results. If he was being fired, why wait? They could fire him the moment they realized that was his fate. If they extended the date, it would mean they are truly on the fence and more information was out there to process. The only reason I can think of for why you would delay an announcement while already knowing the results of the investigation, is that you want to appear to have done a thorough investigation so that you catch less shit when you announce that he's reinstated.
Total guess.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
You better get ready for all the politics , because their is "NO WAY" they are getting rid of him
August 17th, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
You all are completely misinterpreting things here. It's not trivial to come up with the hush money Zach Smith is requesting without leaving a paper trail.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:46 PM ^
OSU's statement.
August 17th, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
Well, sounds like Urbs is staying, with a small slap on the wrist!
If he was to be fired, me thinks they would have done it this evening!
August 17th, 2018 at 5:52 PM ^
We should make an MGoBlog pact. If he's fired, post away, ad nauseum. If he keeps his job, let's move on. No posts. We have other things to talk about at this point besides Urban Meyer.
August 17th, 2018 at 8:08 PM ^
I like this idea.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
Isn't that exactly 14 days? Whatta shit show.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
Yeah. Coming in right on 14 days makes it look like a) rubber stamp to get Urban back on the field asap, and b) Drake just said that yesterday as a calculated move to ward off criticism about rushing it. "Hey, I said it would take as long as needed. It just happened to be super quick."
August 17th, 2018 at 6:24 PM ^
Right, why even say that yesterday? Did he really not know yesterday that it would be over Sunday, but he now knows today?
August 17th, 2018 at 6:27 PM ^
Well, I guess all I can hope for is justice to be done. If it isn't, I hope that something comes out later after they make their foolish decisions on what to do with Urban and Smith. I hope someone keeps digging and slams them after the fact. That would be so great it's unreal just to think about! I also hope something is done about that police department and the officers that handled the situations. Those pictures aren't fake and I wonder if a good attorney couldn't go after them and the university for all sorts of damage. Does that attorney have the balls though? Or if it's a woman, I don't know what she would have to possess. Maybe a sports bra.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
Have they even interviewed Meyer? Have not heard any reports indicating he met with them......not that he would tell the truth anyway.
August 17th, 2018 at 8:32 PM ^
I'd expect Meyer would be the last person they interview. That way they can ask better questions and know how to follow them up.
August 17th, 2018 at 6:52 PM ^
He’s coming back. Embrace it.
Just beat them this year. The rest is details.
August 17th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
Yup, I gotta agree with you.
August 17th, 2018 at 7:19 PM ^
All those who had ”OSU drops update at 5:00 PM on a Friday” win the pool.
August 17th, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
Goodnight, sweet prince.
August 17th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
Have your hackers been able to get you some inside info?
August 17th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
Urban Durkin.
August 17th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
Since we all know Meyer was never going to be fired I could have saved OSU a ton of money. I would have done the “investigation” for a cool $100,000.
August 17th, 2018 at 10:26 PM ^
Is it just me or does anyone else want to get this McMurphy Guy a house in East Lansing when he’s done raking the state of Ohio over the coals.
I love this guy!! Just think of the stuff he’d turn up with Dantoni and Izzle.....
August 17th, 2018 at 10:45 PM ^
Well it may not be McMurphy but espn is supposedly going to releasing some more major dirt within a month or so on MSU athletics including the football team. This is confirmed by Chris Balas and our own umbig11 that it's happening.
August 18th, 2018 at 9:02 AM ^
I think the LSJ had something but might have decided not to print it in exchange for a finders fee from MSU. That is speculation, but it's based on my next door neighbor who's involved in MSU's program and no longer feels like they are going to be hammered by something from the LSJ. I'd be very stoaked if a LSJ reporter did the right thing and made a handoff to ESPN.
August 17th, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
I can't figure out what they are setting the stage for, at SEC North
August 17th, 2018 at 11:52 PM ^
Jerks. Win at all costs. Just like our bro. Sad programs. Really sad thing is parents buy in .. no class
August 18th, 2018 at 9:06 AM ^
Just get ready for an announcement around next Wednesday that the work group recommended and the board agrees that there is no cause to fire Meyer from this, but that the workgroup did uncover some other areas of potential concern and that the board has authorized a more in-depth long term investigation into Meyer's overall conduct. The pending more broad investigation will have the effect of tempering outrage at his reinstatement.
In the interim he will be reinstated fully to the team, the media will eventually lose focus on the fact that there is a follow on investigation, and any actual good intentions by the work group and investigative team will eventually be undone as the follow on investigation dies at some later date due to an administrative stamp rejecting further funding.
August 18th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
This smelled like a three game suspension before and could even reduce to one on the outside. Unfortunately that sham in Cbus only cares about victory on the field, not in life and they're going to do what they can to save Urb's scalp and the atmosphere of tolerance of bad behavior will continue down there.
