New 2018 offer: Tennessee RB Keegan Jones

Submitted by Magnus on

Yes, it's a little late for 2018 recruiting news, but Cleveland (TN) Cleveland running back Keegan Jones is no longer headed to Navy. Baylor, Michigan, and UCLA have all offered him. He's a 5'9", 170 lb. speedster of a running back with a 4.4 forty and a 21.1 in the 200. In high school he had 299 carries for 2,390 yards and 22 rushing touchdowns, plus another 3 rushing touchdowns and 5 kickoff return touchdowns. Michigan is below the scholarship limit for 2018 even after adding kicker Jake Moody to the scholarship haul.

Here's a link to Jones's highlights (LINK).

And here's an article on him from the Cleveland Banner (LINK).

If Jones were to sign with either Michigan or UCLA he will have to wait until December to enroll, but would be able to play right away at either Georgia Southern or Kennesaw State.

why is this the case?

why doesn't he have a 247 rating?

How are we below the scholarship count? Didn’t we have 87 on scholarship before the deparparture of Walker and presumably Crawford. Thar would put us at an even 85. What am I missing?

If he couldn’t even play this season, why not bank the scholarship for ‘19, M seems to be in a lot of top recruits left. Or do they figure attrition will work itself out if they end up needing the space?

Yeah not sure about this move, I'd rather bank the scholarship. We just took 3 RBs in 2018, have 2 great ones in 2019 plus GJ3 and other targets that are small speedy slot types. competition is one thing but over stuffing the RB room is how you piss off guys like AJ Dillon.

I'd rather give the scholarship to a walk on senior and be able to use it next year. Why burn a four year scholarship on someone unlikely to ever contribute. We have lots of commits at RB who would be in front of this kid.

His film appears to have been sped up but he still looks to have quick feet and above average speed.

I wonder why he was so lightly recruited?

Assuming Basic at Navy is over and he decided the military life was not for him.

Also I am sure UCLA was talking about the stipends and being able to manage them rather than paying him.
