We are not the premier combination of athletics and academics anymore. I don't think Stanford has ever won a NC but we haven't won the big 10 in 14 years. Think about that.
Man. I will never, ever fault a kid for wanting a Stanford degree. Just can't blame anyone there...but how many times did Herron deny that he was wavering in his commitment? Woof.
It's pretty clear now that Michigan was a place holder until he got the early acceptance.
Yeah. Also, I'm just not that worried. Herron was a good prospect, but not the elite one that his early rankings suggested. We have a bunch of good DL committed, we have Paye and Vilain at End already, and Herron taking a Stanford spot might move DiCosmo's needle more towards us. It's kind of an "oh well" to me.
I wonder if we really ramp up on flipping George Karlaftis now. Seems like if Purdue has a good enough season for Brohm to seek greener pastures, and we finally get over our own humps, we could have a good shot.
I watched his camp video and was underwhelmed as he was stopped on just about every rep.
But if he was still considering SU he should have just been quiet about his recruitment.

If you scroll down you'll see my comment on his performance at The Opening - I haven't thought Herron was that great a prospect for some time. His continuous drop in the rankings supports that.
I'm not bothered that he obviously lied through his teeth, I just find it distasteful that he followed up his lies by quoting scripture.

Honestly one of the few things that made me respect Hoke is that he (and apparently Mattison also) was a man of faith, but he never used that to hide behind or as a recruiting ploy. Unlike Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel, for example. (Or Hugh Freeze obviously)

Is it not ironic that Harbaugh resurrected Stanford into the power program it is today and it is now the chief poacher of good Michigan commits? A lot of these players probably don't know that Stanford used to suck and Harbaugh rebuilt it from the ground up. It would've been nice if the Cardinal had imploded after he left like the Niners did. [Shakes fist at David Shaw] Shawww!
Shaw is obviously a decent coach but I'm curious to see how they do in the coming years. His first 3 seasons were very good, but once the Har augh players were grandfathered out their success has dropped considerably. And a big part of that is due to the fact that the PAC 12 has been in a bit of a slump for half a decade or so.
David Shaw won a conference title 4 years after Harbaugh left with almost exclusively his own recruits. His worst record is 8-5, and he's won 3 conference titles. He's obviously a very good coach, and while Harbaugh got it rolling, Shaw has taken it to another level. He's been great. Let's give the guy his due.
That's why I said that I'm curious to see what happens. He was Harbaugh's protege and continued the program continuity.
Also I find it interesting that Harbaugh also went 8-5 with arguably the youngest team in school history, and yet certain users here took that to mean he'd never win a national championship, never win a conference title, and never even won a division because of it. And he'd be lucky to ever have better than a .25 winning percentage against rivals. It's incredible what standards we hold Michigan to, yet we can't seem to apply it to other schools and coaches.
Not sure how either relates to the other. Shaw's 3rd year he won the Pac-12 with a brand new QB, a brand new RB, a new receiving corps and a young offensive line. He also beat peak Oregon, UCLA before they fell off, Notre Dame and a good Washington team. He didn't continue the program continuity, he upgraded it. It doesn't mean Shaw is a better coach than Harbaugh, but to say he continued what Harbaugh started does a severe disservice to the coaching job Shaw has done on his own merit. It would be similar to saying that Harbaugh only won in college because of Andrew Luck.

Harbaugh took over after Hoke was fired.
One of these incoming coaches had better existing talent to work with.
Hoke recruited significantly more blue chippers in his tenure than Harbaugh did at Stanford. Granted, part of it was what they had to work with to start, but Hoke's problem was never accumulating talent, but rather cultivating it. Also, in my opinion it's a lot harder to go from good to great as a program than it is to go from bad to good. Again, I'm not saying Shaw is better than Harbaugh, but it's time to stop looking at Stanford in it's current state as something that Harbaugh built, because it has Shaw's fingerprints all over it.
Yeah man, I totally get that 17-18 year old kids are gonna act like 17-18 year old kids, but why deny all the Stanford interest. At least that is what i remember (I could be wrong) concerning his comments. That he seemed fairly strong in saying that Stanford wasn't in the running anymore, etc. Oh well, best of luck young man.

Haven't been following recruiting as much this year, so I'm out of the loop on targets, but man...Aeneas Dicosmo is an AMAZING name.
