Beilein’s Contract Details
Beilein’s new contract has been made public. An increase from 3.37 to $3.8M per year with some other benefits. His new salary would have made him the 7th highest paid coach nationally, but still 3rd in the Big 10. He still seems underpaid to me, but no mention of the assistant salary pool.

He actually only gets 10 hours per year of time for personal use of the private jet. That doesn’t seem like enough. You can’t even get to Hawaii and back on that.
Also, I feel pretty confident that we’ll never hear about Beilein getting Pitino type “benefits.”

Like most everyone else here, at this point I just want to know that Warde is taking care of Beilein’s assistants. They’ve ALL earned raises. Yaklich especially. While I know it’s insane for anyone to expect Yaklich to stay forever, at least make it harder for him to decide to leave.
As for Beilein’s salary, yeah maybe he’s underpaid, but if Beilein is happy then what does it matter? The way we ought to see it is we’re getting a bargain to watch him put a whoopin on Izzo.
I went on that roller coaster of emotions whether he was leaving or staying; All the stories and all he got was a 500K annual increase?

We should remember he is his own agent so he doesn't have to pay 10% or so to someone else. This payout is equivalent to 4.2M with an agent.

Kinda smart by Warde. I'm convinced that if the Pistons had offered, Beilein would've taken it without a substantial increase in salary by Michigan.
I believe there's a good chance another NBA team takes a run at Beilein and the same logic as above applies. Therefore, if Beilein's Michigan salary were around $5M, said NBA team would offer more and Michigan would have to pay something like $7M to keep Coach B.
Now that it's less than $4M, an NBA team will offer him around that or maybe a little more (the draw bring that it's the NBA) and then Michigan's counteroffer would only have to be around $5M or $6M.
In other words, Warde just saved the department $1M - $2M.

I'm probably wrong but I just don't feel like Beilein cares much about more money. I think he was legitimately interested at a new coaching challenge of the highest level of basketball, something he's never done before. He loves Michigan but knew this was likely his last opportunity to take on the NBA at his age. He weighed his options and chose Michigan.
