How much do we need to raise on GoFundMe to get the Athletic Department to quit whoring out the coaching titles?

Submitted by I'm Batman on

I could barely even get past the damn titles of Warde and Beilein in the extension story.

Its freaking sickening that we cant call our coaches just freaking coaches.

Im seriously developing a healthy hatred in my heart for the egotistical a-holes who shelled out the money to ruin the damn titles. Screw you Donald Shepard, David and Meridith Kaplan, and especially J. Ira and Nikki Harris.

And screw the athletic department for selling out.

Get off my lawn rant over. Let the invisible meaningless negs commence.

Endowed positions are a good thing that helps the athletic department. Skip over the title if you don’t like it.

It’s only listed on MGoBlue and press releases. It’s not that big a deal.

It is totally fine with me.  I don’t see anything wrong with. Who are these donors hurintg? No one. But they are savings UM, fans and tax payers a lot of money.

I suggest that you find a different cause to fund.

Of all the people to hate and denigrate in the entire world, the OP chooses those who freely give generously to something that we individually and collectively treasure in our lives. I feel sorry for you, OP.

Because it allows the person the leave something behind as a legacy.  People with a lot of money tend to want to build things and leave a mark before they pass - so do all people but they may not have the means to do so.  Do you have an issue with Mott Children's Hospital being named after C.S. Mott?  You realize that many of the things built on campus carry the names of donors, right?  Giving anonymously is a beautiful thing, but so is giving even when something is named in honor of the donor.  I'm grateful for their support of something I love.  Michigan athletics and academics would not be where they are without the support of wealthy alumni and supporters.

Of course one of the resident no politics whiners is escalating this to class warfare.

My comment wasn't specific to Mott (though I did leave that interpretation open). The sentiment I intended: legacy is the balance of what you do, not what you buy. Philanthropy can certainly be part of what you do.

In terms of how this relates to the thread: I wouldn't call the vain purchasing of football coach naming rights philanthropy.
