What are you guys doing to stay busy (prior to football!)

Submitted by Mgoczar on

Every day has been fairly painful. Can't wait for college football to start. For that matter, please bring all the kool aid from fall camp ASAP - will chug it down. What are you guys upto?

Also...Harbaugh to NFL has re-started in earnest: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24059595/25-nfl-predictions-2021-leveon-bell-future-dallas-cowboys-win-super-bowl-next-three-seasons-more

It has more me, too. I thought it would drag because of how shitty the 2017 season was. Maybe it was that bad that I just forgot all about football for a few months, but this is the time of year I start to get the itch, so I'm sure the next six weeks will drag.

One downvote to the first person that responds, "Going to the gym/working out".  That's not something you do to "stay busy".  That's just a look-at-me-I'm-awesome response.  #grouchymood

I can't tell you how many people I meet that find out I went to UM and am a football fan ask me, "so, do you think your coach sticks around?" I mean casual fans ask, which is fine, but even guys that seem very knowledgeable about their own teams ask.

I work with a guy who played at Fordham and even he's asking if/ when Harbaugh is leaving for the NFL. It's crazy.

World Cup got me through last week.  I also like auto racing and watch F1 races when they take place.

The NFL cranks up next week and within a couple of weeks there are exhibition NFL games.

It's also a nice time to reacquaint myself with my wife who is aware that come September, much of my spare time will be watching the tube or football Saturdays at the Big House.

Politics, lots of politics.  Probably too much, but it's hard not to pay attention.

And I love how there are competing narratives about Harbaugh, he's both a terrible coach who can't finish better than 3rd in the B1G east, and a hugely sought after coach by NFL teams.  He would have been lucky to win 7 games with his first team at Michigan and can't develop players because he had most of his success with Hoke's players.

I disagree that they are tied together.  Even if he somehow doesn't work out at Michigan, some NFL team will hire him right away.  He took a team without a winning record in 8 years and led them to 3 straight NFC title games, double digit wins each year, and a SB appearance.  In the 3 years since he left, they have fired 2 other coaches, haven't won more than 6 games in a season and finished last in the division each year.

I think we’ve heard a lot less NFL chatter after this season than previous ones.  I’m not saying it’ll ruin his career, I just think that if things go sideways he will be hurt by it also.  Not sure an NFL team would jump right away as a HC.  Let’s just hope we never have to find out.

I fully agree with your comments. 2018 is going to be crucial.  He has a top tier, highly experienced D, the O should be leagues better at just about every position.  If he can't produce this year, there will be lots of noise and Stadium seating will be much more readily available next Fall.

TBH, the pain of last season really changed me. I have been meditating a lot and fell in love. Really stepped back from sports a little and focused on other things to get away from the pain of losing.

Really a blessing in disguise.

I just work, go home and watch Brooklyn Nine Nine. Sometimes I'll visit this site and get sad the season isn't here yet. To cheer up I watch Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Oh, work has done plenty to keep me busy - it is pretty crazy around these parts at this time of the year in my particular field.

There's also simply enjoying the seven months of bad sledding. Actually, I don't miss the cold, considering how f*cking cold it managed to get right around New Year's and how buried in snow we managed to get here in Michigan for six weeks after that.

I do, however, miss the seasonable fall temps and the football that comes with it.

Just watering the garden constantly due to the #$@&* lack of rain here in SE Michigan.  And feel free to stomp all over my lawn - it's pretty dead looking right now anyway.

Cheatin on the 3rd wife with soon to be ex 4th wife.

Setting up off shore accounts from the money I'm embezzling from work.

Trying to figure out if I should stop eating blueberries because of THIS

And debating if having black athletes run in chains is racist. But damn is he is a beast. I really hope he has a monster season and helps bring Michigan a NC.

Working, parenting, husbanding, home owning, cleaning, paying a pile of never ending bills, wondering when there will ever be relief, realizing that there never will be, wake up and do it all again. The last thing I need is the emotional distress of another disappointing Michigan football team, so they better turn it around this year.

Solo playing a monster hex-and-counter wargame on WWI, "Storm of Steel". Wishing I was a more acceptable type of nerd so I could find other people to play with, but it's a fun hobby.
