Michigan Football: Donovan Jeter Moved to NG (according to report)
According to "The Times" of Beaver, Pennsylvania, Donovan Jeter has been moved from Defensive End to Nose Guard.
“I remember in high school I used to hate double teams. I just hated the thought of going inside. But now I’m 310, 315 pounds and that’s what I’ve got to do.”
Jeter had impressed Michigan’s coaches enough during spring and fall camp that he projected to be part of the rotation as a true freshman. But Jeter’s path hit a speed bump toward the end of fall camp when he tore his meniscus in practice.
"There were days when I was just real irritated easily, especially when I couldn’t walk. I felt like I was barely an athlete.”
Having maxed out at around 315 to 320 pounds on the bench press in high school, Jeter was pushing sets of three at 355 pounds during his second month of rehab.
“After a while I started seeing changes, like I had this hoodie that I couldn’t fit into anymore and shirts were too tight in my chest,” Jeter said.
I’ve got hoodies that I can’t fit into, but it’s not because I’ve been lifting weights.
I've been lifting lots of weights. They happen to be shaped like beer mugs.
Everyone's favorite workout: the 12 ounce curl
I have the same hoodie problem after I drink too many ?
I thought you started threads with your skypanther account?
Wait, did we have another Roll Damn Tide/Wolverine In a Bag(was the alt account Wolverine in a bag?) situation?
No not quite that but for your reference
Mineral King = Sky Panther = It's Always Marcia
How did you deduce that?
Soon a lady friend will be taking his sweatshirts.
So long as he hasn't outgrown his iron jock, I can watch the games with my children present.
NT is always a tough position to find an athlete like Jeter to play. I hope this move is very fruitful for him; will be critical for depth next year if not this one.
Geez, from the title, i thought he quit and moved to a state I never heard of.
North Georgia. We … don’t talk about North Georgia.
Lol, nose guard. That seems like a really funny way of saying nose tackle. Anyway, wasn't this already known? I thought he moved to DT last year. Maybe not specifically at nose, but he was definitely not going to stick at SDE. Him and Deron Irving Bey were both pretty much assumed to move inside to DT.
Yeah I don't know that this is new information. I just hope his weight gain is good weight. He already has a history of seesawing weight, so I hope it's from the weight training program and not from dorm food and being laid up with an injury.
You know that all weight gain is good weight gain, especially with Ben Herbert and the new nutritionistas!
Yeah, he was definitely playing/listed at "DT". I think the assumption was 3 Tech so NT would be a little bit of a surprise.
What's the depth at NT? I thought it was Mone and Dwumfour. And I thought 3T was Solomon and then ?? so it would seem like not a great thing if Jeter wasn't the backup 3T?
I think NT is Solomon and Mone and Dwumfour is the 3T. With rumblings of Kemp playing some inside, I wouldn't be surprised if he is backup 3T, or maybe Marshall. And remember we ran with 4 DTs less than half the time last year, so depth isn't a huge issue barring injury.
Actually, looking back over the article I kind of wonder whether he really is being moved to 3T rather than NT. A lot of casual football fans do not understand the difference between the two interior DL positions. The headline says "nose guard;" even if the reporter knows the difference (no guarantee of that) the headline could just as easily have been written by some editor. Jeter himself is only quoted as saying he's been moved "inside." And 3T seems like a more natural destination for a guy originally slotted as an SDE.
I think Bo used to call it "Middle Guard," though probably in a 5-2 front.
The Times of Beaver.
I think there is a joke in there somewhere.
This is big news for those of us who thought he was a nose guard before this
so i guess this is the 3 deep at this juncture?
SDE: Gary, Kemp, Johnson
NT: Solomon, Mone, Jeter
3T: Dwumfour, Marshall, Irving-Bey
WDE: Winovich, Paye, Vilain
I guess Johnson get's on the 3 deep by default. We haven't heard a peep out of him so I wouldn't be surprised if Hutchinson is ahead of him pretty quickly.
Before he even signed his LOI, I predicted Johnson would go the Poggi route and flip to FB.
Nice! Based on that photo he was looking pretty good last year, carrying the weight pretty good then and now there's more of him! Does anyone know if you tear your miniscus if it's easier to do so again? Hopefully, no worries of injury for him from here on out. Man, if he's the guy coming off the bench, we're gaining on Alabama in a big way...
Good for him. Seems like he has a good attitude about it. Whatever helps him find the field fastest and help the team.
I have the same problem with hoodies and shirts not fitting me anymore, but for different reasons.
For those saying this was already known, apparently even Thunder at Touch the Banner didn't know, as he posted it to his blog 1 day after it was posted here. He probably saw it posted here, then posted it on his blog.
