Michigan Football: Donovan Jeter Moved to NG (according to report)

Submitted by It's Always Marcia on

According to "The Times" of Beaver, Pennsylvania, Donovan Jeter has been moved from Defensive End to Nose Guard.

“I remember in high school I used to hate double teams. I just hated the thought of going inside. But now I’m 310, 315 pounds and that’s what I’ve got to do.”

Jeter had impressed Michigan’s coaches enough during spring and fall camp that he projected to be part of the rotation as a true freshman. But Jeter’s path hit a speed bump toward the end of fall camp when he tore his meniscus in practice.

"There were days when I was just real irritated easily, especially when I couldn’t walk. I felt like I was barely an athlete.”

Having maxed out at around 315 to 320 pounds on the bench press in high school, Jeter was pushing sets of three at 355 pounds during his second month of rehab.

“After a while I started seeing changes, like I had this hoodie that I couldn’t fit into anymore and shirts were too tight in my chest,” Jeter said.

Lol, nose guard. That seems like a really funny way of saying nose tackle. Anyway, wasn't this already known? I thought he moved to DT last year. Maybe not specifically at nose, but he was definitely not going to stick at SDE. Him and Deron Irving Bey were both pretty much assumed to move inside to DT.

Actually, looking back over the article I kind of wonder whether he really is being moved to 3T rather than NT.  A lot of casual football fans do not understand the difference between the two interior DL positions.  The headline says "nose guard;" even if the reporter knows the difference (no guarantee of that) the headline could just as easily have been written by some editor.  Jeter himself is only quoted as saying he's been moved "inside."  And 3T seems like a more natural destination for a guy originally slotted as an SDE.

so i guess this is the 3 deep at this juncture?

SDE: Gary, Kemp, Johnson

NT: Solomon, Mone, Jeter

3T: Dwumfour, Marshall, Irving-Bey

WDE: Winovich, Paye, Vilain

Nice! Based on that photo he was looking pretty good last year, carrying the weight pretty good then and now there's more of him! Does anyone know if you tear your miniscus if it's easier to do so again? Hopefully, no worries of injury for him from here on out. Man, if he's the guy coming off the bench, we're gaining on Alabama in a big way...
