First time throwing an RV tailgate

Submitted by CarrIsMyHomeboy on

I went to PSU for a rather epic tailgate last year. I'm not your classic partier but this setup was too special for me not to be impressed (2 adjacent RVs, parked on grass Friday night through Sunday morning, a few paces from the stadium, with 10 friends plus significant others...and somehow our party grew to 50 or 60 strong by absorbing fun strangers).

So 2018 is my first chance to host these guys on my turf and try to duplicate or top 2017. But now I see that the golf course doesn't permit RVs and the Blue Lot won't allow even one overnight stay, let alone two in a row.

I'm writing to pick the Michigan collective consciousness - Can Michigan even offer an RV tailgating experience like PSU's? And if not, what are your suggestions for the next best thing?

In order of priority, I had my heart set on setting up (1) for two nights, (2) a stone's throw from the stadium, on (3) grass.

Fingerle Lumber is my spot.  Pull in Friday afternoon and head home Sunday morning. 30 amp hookup. Not quite a stones throw to the stadium but pretty close.  Can't duplicate the grass of the golf course though.

I doubt you will find a spot that matches all three items on your wishlist, as all spots a stone's throw from the stadium, especially those with grass, don't offer two nights at all.

Pioneer has an RV lot in which you can arrive Friday night for overnight, but you have to get out of there by Saturday night. That has grass nearby and is probably your best bet, with the only downside being you cannot stay until Sunday morning.

As much as I hate to say it, PSU's erector set is in a far better location for tailgating than the Big House is.  The fields around the stadium seem to have been designed to host tailgates...  We talk about high school parking lots, they have purpose built tailgate fields.  Fuck Penn State.

You might want to check out parking at Fingerle Lumber as they have a place reserved for RV's. As far as I know, it is the only place where you can camp out for two nights (although PiHi might also have that option. AAGO doesn't.

Update:

After viewing their website and believing that Fingerle had zero remaining RV availability for Penn State, I contacted them and learned they had one final spot with a 30A hook-up. So in a moment of frenetic indulgence, I grabbed it. The priciness is approximately double of the spots available elsewhere without the 30A hook-up, but whatever, WE HAVE A SPOT!

And who knows, maybe that 30A dealie will prove more valuable than I realize.

Hello guys! You know I like to read strange reviews on the internet and sometimes they turned out to be useful. For example, I read a guide about the best rv toilet paper in 2020 here and that's a strange thing, I know. However, there are some unknown interesting facts.
